Great view over Lago Como. We found it well sign posted when arriving by car. Room was comfortable but basic. Great balcony. Good breakfast.

Great view over Lago Como comes at a price of a 15-20 minute walk up the hill from the town centre. Okay for us but perhaps not so good for older travellers.

We stayed for 2 nights and the hotel is average. It is clean but definitely overpriced.

There are several things worth mentioning. First, the hotel staff is very unhelpful in case something is wrong and you complain. We spent a whole night without a minute of sleep due to strong winds that were making the adjacent rooms' window shutters slamming every minute and making horrible noise. We and other guest complaint and asked for a refund but we were told that it was not a problem of the hotel but it was the wind that prevented us from sleeping. So, they refused to give us any money back for the terrible night. (Plus the reception works only from 8 am to 6 or 7 pm and there was no way to reach anybody during the night). The staff speaks almost no English and they use that to prevent you from arguing with them. They pretend that they cannot understand what you are saying to them. And third, the hotel appears to be quite far away from downtown up on a very steep hill. So, bare in mind quite the walk you need to do everyday whenever you are going back. I would definitely not recommend the hotel or stay again there.

Spacious, bright room with lovely big balcony. Lots of clothes space and plenty of hangers! Good for parking, but feel should have been included in Hotel price. Lovely little pool with very helpful & friendly manager, Antonello!

No air-conditioning. Well over half of the "Lake view" was blocked by roof in front. Ten-minute walk to Menaggio was more like 20-25 mins, down steep, slippery, not-very-well lit steps. 11a.m. check-out was a bit of a rush, midday would be better.

No sauna

Staff was appalling price way too high, old furniture, shower leaking, beds really bad. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone in the world. Restaurant was ok and the staff there as well.

We coiuldn't connect with the hotel because our calling card didn't work in Monaco so we got there too late and the reservation desk was closed at 8:00 PM. We rang the bell anyway as we had no place to stay and they were understanding and gave us our reserved room. We checked the restaurant as hadn't eaten dinner and it was closing but they said they will make us some spaghetti. The cook stayed and made wonderful spaghetti for us. The waiters were so kind and helpful. The breakgast was good and the hotel clerk couldn't have been nicer. Some day we will be back as we had a wonderful experience1

The hotel closes at 8:00 PM.

The best thing about Hotel Sonega was the balcony which had a few across Lake Como

The furniture in the room was very shabby and some of the tiles on the balcony needed replacing the 500 metres to the front was a bit misleading and there was no mention of the very hilly walk down to it the reception has very limited opening hours

The best thing about my stay here, is that I hadn't booked for a week and luckily only had two nights booked in!

It was awful, certainly not three star, would in my opinion only just scrape a one star. The room was extremely basic, we could have paid an extra 20 euros for a room with a lake view, this would have meant hanging over the balcony and using your imagination! To get to the hotel on foot from the ferry was an extremely steep winding road with no pavement. The reception was open when the man turned up, there was no hairdryer or full length mirror in the room, to find a hairdryer I had to ask the chef in the adjoining restaurant to ask the hotel man. I should think the room was last decorated in 1982 when the hotel opened, and the shower certainly didn't look as if it had been clenaed on a regular basis.

Schon der Empfang war eine Katastrophe - dummer Mitarbeiter. WLAN, das in allen Hotels gratis angeboten - wird mit Euro 3,-- /Stunde verrechnet. Das Zimmer - eine Zumutung- zum sofortigen Davonlaufen - wie eine desolate Jugendherberge aus den 50 er Jahren. Wie wir dann vom einzigen freundlichen Mitabeiter erfahren haben, geht es allen Gästen so wie uns - man möchte früher abreisen und muss dafür noch Strafe bezahlen. Es ist eine Schande, daß booking.com so ein Hotel überhaupt anbietet. Man sollte von Ihnen Geld zurückfordern. Diese Nächtigungen waren eine echte Strafe.
