Hotel Universo    

The location is ok, close to the train station. The price of the room was good.

There was mold on a wall of the room, the lights weren't all working. The door knob was broken.

1. proximity to SM Novella Rail Station - proved very imp in our trip.... you will like going out in the night here... 2. Ponte Vecchio was obviously nearby... 3. budget hotel

Friendly staff. Very convenient to train station (2 minute walk) and many sites. When we arrived the found that the "shower doors" were broken. The shower was just a corner of the bathroom with doors attached to 2 walls and a drain in the floor. The hotel was full and it was Sunday so they couldn't get a repair person that day. They moved us to a larger room the next day with a bit more traditional bathroom facility.

Halls and rooms are dark. The Piazza Santa Maria Novella was very loud in the evenings and our rooms were on that side. To get air into the rooms in the evening, we needed the windows open, but the noise was horrible often until 2:00 A.M. (They were having some kind of special event there at the time with food booths; so I don't know if it is always that loud.)

The location was good. Near shops, cafes, train station. Walking distance to main tourist sights. Very clean.

- Room was extremely dim with no option to turn up brighter lights (only yellow dim lights). - Severe lack of hooks or places to hang your towel, clothes, etc in the bathroom. - Lack of space to place your toiletries too. - Some staff were less than friendly but some were very helpful. - No free wifi.

Excellent location, nice staff, clean rooms and nice breakfast

Quite a run-down building and a bit damp room. But those are very minor issues.

The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. The location is very convenient--it's just across the sidewalk from the Santa Maria Novella Church--a 2 minute walk from the train station. There is a computer/internet available for use for 6 euro for 24 hours. Breakfast was decent and included.

The lighting was very poor. The rooms and hallways were dark and gloomy. I personally like the wild paint colors and wall-paper, but the walls were scuffed and dirty. The shower had mold in between the tiles. The door to my room had a bit of cardboard around the door handle--as if filling a hole that had been left when a different handle was put on the door. It wasn't a horrible stay, but I would not stay here again.

We had a nice room with a view to the plaza and the bed was excellent. The staff was very helpful and nice. Breakfast as well was good.

A problem was in the bathroom that the water did not flow in the shower. I hope they will be able to fix this because the hotel was a great valuefor money.

Rooms are spacious and clean, design is a bit too much sometimes, but still. Some of the room with view to the beautiful square. (ie. room 31) Breakfast were perfect for me.... prosciutto and camembert cheese are always available but you can have coffe, tee, different kind of breads, croissant, apple, butter, cornflakes, and more.

I couldn't switch off the heating and temperature was 25C....so I had to open the windows to get some cool air. Consequently there were more noise came from the square side.

It's my second time stayed in the Hotel Universo and everything was just perfect. I like the location and staff was helpful. I will always choose this hotel as OUR HOTEL in Florence.

Only the location - beeing downtown close to SMN Train Station, and 5 mins walk to the Duomo.One nice receptionist, very kind, but the first personel we meet at check in was impolite.

We payed 140 Euro's per night double room, but the price didn't worth it, the hotel looks like a modern Hostel. One door room seemed to be broken,from a previous roobed action. The walls are increadibly old and repainted but it gives a bad taste. The room was really small, you couldn't moved and also the bathroom had no shower cabin. Breakfast was served in a small room and all food was available in spaces that looks like a closet.

Convenient located In a peaceful square and close to train station, and easily reach the tourist point by foot.

The shower is too tiny. In fact I've never been to a shower so small. I had to stand sideways so I could shower...

Very Clean and I like the design and colors used in the room. Staffs are nice and helpful. Very convenient to attractions!

Location pretty close to th S.M.n station.Hotel staff was firendly and provided us some useful information.

To be honest, hotel facility a little bit old and not very comfortable. However worth the money.

The reception staff were very friendly. The room was huge as well as the bathroom, and the location was fantastic under 5 mins for the main train station on foot! Would recommend this hotel was great!

The rooms were very spacious and very clean. Bright colours in the room were a lovely suprise.

Male staff member at the reception was very helpful, however another female member was not so accomodating or welcoming for that matter. It came apparent that pointing out a few local attractions was too much to ask of her and that I was better off finding a tourist information desk.

Hotel Universo was very conveniently located to the Train Station and several city tourist attractions. It met my requirements for a private bath, air conditioning, elevator and breakfast was included. It was clean and comfortable to get sleep after the long flight from the US. The staff was very helpful and spoke good English.

It was quite noisy. Several noisy ambulances or police went by during the night. Also, being close to the Piazza, there was "people" noise. During daylight hours, the air conditioner did not cool the room very well. It was acceptable during the night, but not as cool as preferred.

The hotel location is excellent. it is just a 5 minutes walk from the SMN Railway Station. The hotel is right in front of a very nice Pliazza, there is a very big, open and spacious square and a very nice Momument which is a Opera theatre right opposite the hotel. We were lucky to get on a room the 3rd floor overseeing the Piazza opposite. There are a few nice restaurants just next to the hotel and they are open till late evening around 11pm. The hotel staff was very nice and helpful.

Nothing in partucular, its just that if you are in a room on the mezanine floor, you need to climb up or down a few stairs. If you are or have with you old people or those who cant use the stairs, it could be difficult however proper floors where the elevator stops are no problems.

The location is excellent; near the train station and close to the city's main attractions & shopping area (walking distance 10-15 minutes) The hotel decoration is modern and nice. The room was spacious and clean.
