La Vecchia Cartiera

What we now call "La Vecchia Cartiera" (The Old Paper-mill) was a factory of valuable paper active since 1200. The old structure, located in the centre of Colle Val d'Elsa, only 18 Km from Siena, has become a comfortable hotel after a careful refurbishing. The façade, characterised by harmonious arched windows, evidences the architectural traits of the paper-mills of that time.

The nice village of Colle Val d’Elsa, in the heart of Tuscany, distinguish itself not only for its strategical position as regards the Chianti area (famous all over the world for the production of wine), and as regards important centres like Siena, S.Gimignano, Volterra, but also for the fundamental rule that hold in the production of the precious Italian Crystal (rule that really a few people know).
The elaboration of glass at Colle Val d’Elsa has its roots in the XIII and XIV century; instead, the “modern” glassmakers at Colle date 1820, when the first crystal factory was founded downtown.
Today, Colle Val d’Elsa, is the capital of Crystal, just think that the 90% of Italian Crystal and the 15% of the worldwide production come from here.

Arrival from Milan/Bologna:
Highway A1;exit Firenze Certosa. Take the
freeway (superstrada) Siena-Firenze in direction Siena, exit at Colle Val d’Elsa Nord and keep on following directions to “Centro” (the hotel is located in the centre of Colle Val d’Elsa, near the main square)

Arrival from Pisa airport
Take the freeway Firenze-Pisa-Livorno (FI-PI-LI), exit Empoli Ovest. Follow the signs first for Certaldo, Poggibonsi, then for Colle Val d’Elsa and keep on following directions “Centro” (the Hotel is located in the centre of Colle Val d’Elsa, near the main square)
