Mauro was super friendly, welcoming, and helpful. Breakfast was really nice. From the Villa Astoria, you can easily reach the city of Taormina (by foot) as well as pretty beaches (by cableway). View from the balcony was awesome.
The barking dog at night - but that's definitely not Mauro's fault. ;)
The owner was absolutely fantastic - very welcoming, full of great local knowledge, spoke great english and was extremely accommodating. The location was fantastic for us, right near the bus station (not noisy at all though), and our room was beautiful and had an amazing view of the harbour. Great breakfast too!
Location opposite the bus station made it excellent for or purposes. Everything in taorrmina in walking distance we needed.
Our sheet had stated all rooms either had a balcony or window view of the coast......but only some do . if we had known this we would have requested one.
- Good location , very close to main attractions. - Mauro ( the owner ) he is soo friendly, helpful who gave excellent restaurant recommendations .
We loved our stay here and really appreciated the friendly service that Mauro gave us. The breakfasts were served individually to our table - no scheduling needed and was enough to get us started for the day. Awesome cappucino's too. Even though they plan to upgrade the hotel in future (adding a floor), we felt that Mauro had already invested quite a bit into the existing hotel including super quiet windows on the street side. Some people might think that it's strange being across from the bus station but this didn't bother us at all - it's just a tiny station and there's no noise or exhaust coming from it. We had a rental car and reserved a spot in advance with Mauro - was no issue and parking lot is safe and locked. Next time we come we will try for a ocean view room, but even street side was ok and the A/C worked fine. (Plus there was a fan although we never used it). All in all one of the best stays we had in Italy over 3 weeks. We'll be back!
It's a little tricky when you arrive as there's nowhere to park until you alert the hotel you have arrived. Just park nearby somewhere and pop into the hotel, and they'll take care of you.
1. Good location. Only 3 min walk to the bus terminal. It is about 20 min walk to the old center. 2. Breakfast is delicious.
1. Rooms are extremely small . Furniture in our room is old and all are broken. The closet is full of dust. The mat is so thin that made us feel uncomfortable. Bathroom is so small that makes me difficult to turn around. 2. Staff attitude is rude. The lady sledom smile and even dont greet us. 3. One day, I request 1 more towel to dry my body after come back from swimming. The guy said he needs to charge me additional fee as every guest only allow 'One day, one towel". Finally, he only gave me a very small towel. Oh my God! Very disappinted with what he said. 3. It is really a over charged hotle. Later I found that B&B in the old town also charge the similar price but with far much bigger room and view. :( 4 Wifi doesn't work most of the time.
Good location, just right next to bus terminal and cable car station
But it takes 10 mins walk to city center. The bed is a bit hard for me
Mauro & Francesca are the best hosts in town Parking near city center Easy to go down Isola Bella with nearby cable car Greek Theatre arround the corner
Sound proof windows, it's like a bunker! Good breakfast and close to city center. Nice people!
Mauro was such a friendly host and so helpful in reccommending things to do and places to eat. The location was great for us, across the road from the bus station, close to the steps down to the beach and near the cable car. Breakfast was amazing too! We really enjoyed our stay!
Nothing- it was great!
good location, good breakfast, good accomodation, speedy wi-fi, friendly and kindly owner.Room keep cleanly. I had a delicious croissant.
Stunning views from room. Cleanliness Good air con Owners help with best places to eat and places to visit also advice on how to get there. Good location near beach and pop bus station - short walk to town.
Had a great stay here for one night. The owners are really knowledgable, gave us great tips for taormina, and spoke excellent English. The villa felt like an English B&B in many ways, with just a few rooms, nice family running it, and table service breakfast (on a lovely terrace) rather than buffet style breakfast. The breakfast was a highlight - brought to our table, delicious coffee - actually quite rare in our stay so far especially when hotels only provide vending machines - delicious rolls, crossaints and fruit. It was great!
It was all great!
The view from our room was beautiful! Eating breakfast outside on the patio was delightful. Mauro was a great host! He was ready and willing to help us with any request. Mauro made our trip special. Mauro, thanks for all the extra things you did for us. Say hi to your cat, Tina, for us.
Mauro and Francesca are perfect hosts as they are very welcoming and give invaluable advice on attractions, restaurants etc. They can also arrange transport to the local Lidos in minutes. The hotel is absolutely spotless and in a perfect situation for visiting the town centre, beach, amphitheatre and public gardens and is very convenient for the bus station. Excellent breakfast served in the garden and drinks at any time of the day. And the view form the room...better than a picture postcard!
Friendly and helpful staff who went out of their way to help us around Taormina. The hotel is great value for money - especially if you can get a room with a balcony. Lovely breakfast and easy to get to the centre
Nothing - we had to pay extra for the parking but this is understandable in a city like Taormina
The owner Mauro was exceptional and went to great lengths to advise and suggest where to eat, what to see, how to get there. Villa Astoria is very well situated for both a short walk into town, a scenic walk down to the beach or a short amble to or from the cable car. It is also directly opposite the bus station. Breakfast was plentiful and tasty. Our room was very comfortable and beautifully clean . The highlight of this superb little B and B is however Mauro with his wonderful irreverent good humour and nature .
The location of this small hotel is excellent - it is close to to the bus station (but we didn't notice any noise from this) but away from the crowds and noise from the centre of Taormina, giving it a peaceful atmosphere. The owner of Villa Astoria, Mauro, is fluent in English and was very friendly and extremely helpful. His recommendations for restaurants and site-seeing in and around Taormina were great. Our beds weren't that comfortable on the first night, but Mauro very kindly switched the mattresses and the beds were comfortable after that. We thoroughly recommend reserving a parking space on the premises - it is cheaper than the public car parks and very convenient. Breakfast was very good - the best of our stay in Sicily. And served in the lovely garden of the hotel. This was a great place to stay and we would definitely come back again.
The only thing was the cramped shower cubicle. Otherwise nothing!!
location, close to bus station Mauro-friendly, helpful, with great English who gave excellent restaurant recommendations and travel information
nothing-we were very happy with our stay in Villa Astoria
Location of hotel is ideal. Just outside of town centre so no crowds in the immediate vicinity. Hotel is opposite the bus station so it is perfect for connections. About the hotel - lovely old building with character, with interesting Sicilian decorations on the outside. Lovely breakfast terrace on the front of the building which is shaded by the trees (very welcome in the early morning heat) Our room - number 13 . Very nice, adequate size and comfortable. Cleaned to a high standard everyday. A small balcony makes a pleasant addition to the room perfect for admiring the gorgeous view. Bathroom is fine, water pressure and plumbing present no problems. Air conditioning works well as does the alternative ceiling fan. Breakfast is as stated, fresh bread (delicious) with cheeses and ham. Fresh orange juice ,tea or coffee. About the hotel manager- in every review you read nothing but high praise, I can only add to the compliments of others, Mauro is genuinely a unique hotel manager, nothing is to much trouble, always happy to spend time chatting about where to eat where to visit, this made a difference to our stay at the Astoria, you simply never get this type of friendly service in other hotels. In short - I wouldn't hesitate to return to this hotel in our next visit to Sicily.
friendly , helpful staff Great location for exploring the town and good parking.Overall a place i would use again if i visited the area.
Personally it was a great location as I was using the bus to get to and from the airport! The staff were so friendly and seemed like they'd bend over backwards to help you!! Plus we were lucky to have a room with a beautiful sea view!!
The only thing was that the wifi didn't reach my room, which really wasn't a big deal!!
Our hosts were extremely helpful with directions and restaurant recommendations. The breakfast was good, although the same every day. The location of the hotel was just a short walk from all the restaurants and shops, so it was a great value, and the location across from the bus was convenient. Be sure to check out the Mt. Etna tour and go all the way to the top (bring a coat, sweatshirt, and jeans!)
We were very disappointed in the view from the room. We had two rooms booked with a sea view, yet because of trees, our room only had about 25% view, and our friends next door only saw trees from their room. It would have been helpful if the rooms were classified as Sea View, Partial Sea View, and No Sea View.
Mauro (Hotel owner) and his staff were great. The location across from the bus stop was a bonus. The bus from the Airport in Catania was only $7.50 euros, instead of $80 for a cab, so being across from the bus stop was a bonus. Breakfast was a great bonus. The coffee was great! The walk into town was only a few minutes, and the cable car to Isolla Bella was very close. Overall I would certainly recommend this hotel and would stay there again.
The bed was a little uncomfortable, but this is personal taste. I slept well.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Good location. Very good value for money.
Shower was very small with poor water pressure
