Located 8 km from Lucca, the Castello Di Mammoli is set on a hillside surrounded by olive groves. Both its pool and rooms have Tuscan country views, while Wi-Fi and bikes are free.
Score from 343 reviews Excellent
Facing Lucca's famous Renaissance city walls, the Albergo Celide is just over half a mile from San Martino Cathedral. The property provides free bike rental, free Wi-Fi and free parking.
Score from 955 reviews Excellent
This warm and friendly hotel is within the ancient walls of Lucca, a 10-minute walk from the cathedral. Highlights at Hotel Alla Corte degli Angeli include free Wi-Fi and elegantly decorated rooms.
Score from 459 reviews Wonderful
In a private park, Villa La Principessa is an elegant hotel with a relaxing pool area. In the hills around Lucca, it has a Tuscan restaurant and traditionally-furnished rooms.
Score from 411 reviews Excellent
Loved the location. It was quiet and walkable to the center of Lucca. Charming design and sitting by the pool in the afternoon was a relaxing break after a day of seeing the sights. The breakfast was excellent and having a secure parking area was a bonus.
The wifi was very spotty in our room. It was only available if you stood in a corner.
Service. Staff are excellent, especially Stefano. The breakfast has many choices, pool, attention to detail, proximity to Citta de Lucca.
The shower is unnecessarily complicated. Some teething problems in new rooms but staff are very helpful.
This hotel is in a great spot for visiting Lucca and the surrounding cities in Tuscany (the public transport in Lucca is excellent). One of its best features is the lovely swimming pool, which is quite a bonus in Italian hotels. The staff are lovely and speak excellent English. The continental breakfast buffet was good with plenty of choice.
Decor is a bit old fashioned, but on the plus side the rooms are comfortable and very clean. There were two little niggles, the squeaky gate that was a tad annoying at night time and the occasional smell of drains outside ( think this probably couldn't be helped as it is often the norm with continental drainage systems!!!)
Just about everything. Staff, roomy accommodation, nice breakfast, lovely surrounding ,easy access to wall town. A great stop and a restful one after the hubbub of Rome and Firenze. Planned to stay one day, stayed three. Would have stayed longer but we're booked in Venice. Thanks for a great time.
At six for two the shower was only a little larger than my coffin! But the seems to be the case everywhere in tHis otherwise delightful country. The wi-fi needs help but that is not the fault of management. We had a great time.
It had a beautiful pool with wonderful views of the mountains and was located within walking distance to the centre of Lucca. The rooms were luxurious and the surrounding gardens well maintained and pretty. The breakfast was great with a wide selection and the staff were very helpful and friendly.
Great location, helpful staff when I needed to print boarding pass off..... Nice pool area and lovely seating area to read and watch the world go by on a swinging chair for two.
Needed a little more love... No staff on sight after 8 pm... Lacked atmosphere around pool... No quiet music in background, bar unattended frequently, mosquitoes!!
Staff were friendly and the room was brilliant!
The Staff. Previous reviewers are accurate in describing them as hard- working, friendly and extremely helpful. Given the constraints they work under, they perform miracles! Some reviewers complain about the distance from Lucca's centro storico if you are without a car. We deliberately wanted to stay at a place with a swimming pool and so expected to be a little way out of town. One of our family is physically handicapped, nonetheless we walked into town on at least four occasions. For the able bodied, I reckon it is a comfortable quarter of an hour stroll, which will take you past the friendly butcher/general dealer, a caffe, where, of course the coffee is both good and cheap ( a splendid place for breakfast!) and a pharmacy. Having explored the city, we usually got a taxi back to the complex.
Corte Degli Dei is run on a shoe-string. It is completely under staffed and you will be fortunate to find anybody at reception, when you arrive. This is because the employees - a maximum of four at any one time - will be busy about the complex. In any event, there are no personnel on site after 17.30 or before 08.00 - though the manger can be contacted by telephone at any hour. Breakfast is a bit of a health risk! A previous reviewer mentioned food being left out in the tented breakfast accommodation during the heat of the day and, indeed that was our experience. Needless to say we preferred to eat out. The design of the complex is peculiar, a cross between an early mediaeval mini-castle and Tuscan rusticity. Our room featured a four-poster bed, with, what felt like shower curtains, and a sofa bed, which was more than adequate for our needs. What I couldn't understand was the half wall which partly divided the room and hindered movement. Also the strange idea of partly plastered walls, to give the rustic effect, provided an ideal refuge for insect-life and dust. Also the air conditioning system was distinctly idiosyncratic, refusing to respond to the controller. Fortunately, the nights were cool, so we simply unplugged it. The pool is large and was very clean during the three days we were there. This isn't really surprising as the robotic cleaner was the main occupant for most of the time! Swimmers swam over or under its trailing lines. The furniture looks new, though more discerning guests will not be impressed by its cleanliness. But given the number of man hours worked in this place it is hardly surprising that such routine maintenance is neglected. Finally, this accommodation is not cheap and in my opinion doesNOT represent value for money.
This B&B is way more than a stroll from town, you need bikes and theirs don't work. The breakfast is one of the worst we've ever had. Nothing fresh and served in a mouldy tent/marquee.
It wasn't a comfortable stay at all.
- room, decor and bath - location - pool area
- tiny shower - stained red floor, cleaning products stained our feet - breakfast was poor - staff were ok - pool sitting area dirty
The breakfast was varied and very fresh, liked there were al lot of fresh fruit. The decorations were fun.
A lot of things were broken. e.g. 4 parasols at the pool could not be used. Not so good, when Italy is very warm and sunny in July and August. Coffemachine were broken. Lots of hair in the pool for days, before it was cleaned. Room was not very clean, cobwebs in the windows and much dust at the tables near the beds. We were staying for 10 nights, and had only clean bedding once. It was never possible to get hold of persons when needed. You would have to go looking for them even in the check-in time. Actually we never checked in....!!! We lived at the upper floor, with very small windovs, so you would have to turn on the light just to see. Several times an hour the light went of, and so the air con. - No good.
I was disappointed to find that the hotel was situated in a suburb as the pictures make it look more like a Villa in the country. The breakfast was terrible, the room was very dark and the tyres on all the bicycles were flat.
Pool, friendly and helpful staff, location near to Lucca centre
Bicycles a good idea but none worked.
Having a pool was great for the kids. The complex was very smart and close enough to the city walls to walk into the town.
In this price bracket, I would expect fresh coffee rather than poor quality machine coffee. Also the b&b was in a marshy area and so we suffered from a lot of bites.
Very bad bed`s
Superb accomodation. Lovely pool. Friendly staff who speak excellent english. Walking distance of Lucca where we were reccomended an excellent restaurant.
Used to do bike hire but bikes got broken and unwilling to fix. However there were still 2 that functioned which we were allowed to go off on and circuit the wall.
Pool area was nice
Not getting a superior room as paid for! First room given had a cooking range but did not have a wardrobe or place facility to hang clothes, second room given was a much better room with good facilities, however as we were unpacking we were asked to more to a third room as a family had just booked in and wanted to all be on the same level. Having booked the required type of room over a month in advance I did not expect or appreciate being moved around to suit the securing of passing trade. If you are sold a image on the internet ,book it, make yourself liable to full payment on cancellation, then you should receive what you have ordered. Very disappointed at this treatment. Also the reception was closed early evening until late morning making it difficult to enquire about any directions or obtaining any items for the room. All of this added up to a very disappointing first experience of Italy, Tuscany and Lucca.
We loved the location. The pool was a great relief at times. Staff very helpful.
Facilities needed some attention - both the remote control in the TV and air con not working. The fridge in the kitchenette needed defrosting and was leaking. The air conditioning unit was noisy and kept us awake and was really dusty. Not enough staff on hand.
The B&B is on a fairly quiet road, with a beautiful view of the mountains. Because of the small size of the property, the swimming pool always felt nice and private and was good to see the families there enjoying it too. Air con / WiFi in rooms very good and the staff were always friendly and helpful when we needed them.
The breakfast spread was a bit disappointing in terms of the quality of the food. However, there did seem to be a decent variety. Although we had only booked a double room, we were kindly placed in a superior ground floor. While this was convenient (not having to go up any stairs!), the room itself was very very dark. It was a pity that there were no bikes to use, but better no unsafe bikes being used than an accident I guess!
Gorgeous little hotel 15mins walk from the gates of Lucca. So pretty, great facilities, lovely breakfast outside each morning. Rooms were spacious with great views. Bathroom was spotless with lovely olive products. The kids loved the pool and outside seating areas. The staff were great and this hotel made the first few days of our Tuscan tour a delight. We will certainly be back!
Large room, hot shower, good pool & friendly staff.
Breakfast was poor quality, juice unpleasant & coffee from vending machine - no excuse in Italy where coffee is always fantastic. Room very noisy - woken up by entrance gates opening & closing & walls not soundproofed very adequately..
A lovely location just a few minutes walk from the old city and very convenient. Very friendly staff Rooms quiet and comfortable. Very clean.
Staff not always available...until you know where to find them! Bicycles in poor condition which is a shame as the cycle into the old city is fun. ...and they should be free to residents. Breakfast adequate
A relaxing environment
The walls are very thin The wi-fi didn't work in my room
Location Free parking Pool
Breakfast was sufficient, but coffee not as good as other places we stayed in
Very clean and nice bathroom - I loved the shower. Staff is very friendly and always willing to help. You can leave your luggage at the reception and stay the day at the pool (or in the city) on the last day. There is even a room with shower/toilet that you can use. Large parking directly at the hotel. Nice room - if you like the fake medieval style - and brand new equipment (e.g. Good aircon). Nice pool.
Walking to the city is still OK, but still a 15 minutes walk, if you like to dine at Lucca (no possibility to have lunch/dinner at the hotel or anywhere closeby) and don't want to drive. However, you can rent bikes and parking is quite cheap around the city walls (1 Euro per hour). The pool bar is only partially staffed, so you need to wait if you want a coffee or something else to drink. Prices are OK but not cheap. Breakfast is OK, but I hated the coffee machine used for breakfast (instant coffee). Only a few umbrellas against the sun at the pool and 2 of them where broken, so you should be around lunchtime at the pool if you can't stay in the full sun. However, there are always enough reclining chairs.
