A wonderful place with very helpful and friendly staff. The restaurant was excellent too. We stayed in 7 hotels during our Italian holiday - Villa La Principessa was the best! |

The helpfulness of the staff The room was in a poor state of repair with torn curtains and threadbare carpets. We've stayed at many 4 star hotels before which were far superior and a lot cheaper |

If you asked for help they were extremely willing, especially the reception staff, and helpful. Service was always good. The night porter called us because he feared we had over slept...good service. The bar was rarely attended and the social areas lacked atmosphere but they were very comfortable which was a shame. May be the lounge/piano bar needed board games/music/lively chat. It felt too intimidating to talk aloud which was such a shame, and I`m not one to shy away. It`s a fantasic country hotel, but it does lack that something extra! Sadly the location. It was 5km approx from city centre which would normally be no problem for us since we love to walk, however, the road outside the hotel had absolutely no walkway. It would be impossible to walk in either direction. The hotel restaurant was expensive, and not particularly good, the local wine was good though. There is an very good trattoria The Skipper, just 2 mins by car away. Excellent food. But book, it gets busy, it looks like a cafe but the food is excellent. Again the walk there is difficult due to the busy road. |

The surrounds of the property were excellent, a villa of the main track was refreshing. We were dissappointed when the resturant was closed and we werent told until we returned after a day in the town, we had to go back to town to get something to eat. |

We stayed for six nights and used Hotel Villa La Principessa as a base. With a car we visited Lucca, La Cinque Terra, Pisa, beaches, Tuscany countryside etc. The hotel provided a lovely place to return after a busy day to relax by the pool and/or have a cocktail and dinner. At night we met many interesting people from around the world. The hotel should have a computer based near the reception for visitors to use the internet. A minimal cost per half hour would be suitable. (Florence service was free) We travelled around the world from Australia. This was the only hotel stay where we could not touch base with family at home. |

The proximity to Lucca and other local sites is wonderful. The staff were friendly but not obtrusive and very helpful with information, maps, scheduling a cab, etc. The breakfast each morning was plentiful and provided great options for all types of travelers. We were intially taken aback by the decor and age of the building, but this is what gives the Villa it's charm so you have to take it in and embrach it. If you are looking for a typical american hotel, this is not the place for you. Great option for the price for our stay. Our first room was in need of refurbishing or upgrading. I understand that this is an old villa but there were cobwebs in the corners, mold around the bathtub and the carpet on the stairs was worn down to the padding. We requested a change and learned that the room was actually an upgrade. We were shown a standard "comfort room" and opted for it. The 2nd room was very clean, the beds were comfortable and the bathroom was great. This room did have 2 twins pushed together to make a king, but it was no problem at all. Overall I would recommend the hotel and had a wonderful time. |

This hotel an a former grandeur about it on the ground floor with a superb breakfast. The rooms however were a little dissapointing in their tiredness of decoration. Distance out of the centre of Lucca |

Very quite and peaceful set in wooded location, easy access to Lucca and Pisa. Staff were very helpful, pleasant and spoke english, they gave you maps to help you get around and recommended lovely eating places. Hotel is very much like a English Country Manor House The pool had green algae in it, general garden area was a bit over grown was more like a woodland area |

Our room, a luxury double was very spacious and retained charm being decorated in an individual fashion. Slightly frosty reception on arrival but overall staff friendly and helpful. We only booked this hotel as it was a late deal at a greatly reduced rate. The normal full rate, in my opinion would have been overpriced. The first night my main course in the restaurant was undercooked. However, as I could not eat it, they knocked it off the bill and offered an alternative. Other meals eaten in the restaurant were average/good. The porter was overly friendly/attentive on arrival causing irritation after a long day! |

Hotel in quiet, secluded setting convenient for both Pisa and Lucca. Peaceful "old world" ambiance with courteous and helpful staff. Limited dinner menu at higher than expected prices for the variety of food offered. No real tourist information on display but staff very helpful when asked. |

Bed extremely comfortable. Very pleasant and helpful staff. A very quiet and peaceful location. Restaurant expensive and does not offer a very good range of choices. Breakfast a bit boring after a few days, but is probably typical for Italy. Might be improved by offering toast and a better choice of bread. |

Beautiful hotel, great room, fantastic swimming pool Hotel was a little bit out of town but was 13 euro in taxi from Lucca train station. Also, there is a bus to town from the main road just outside hotel. |

Local access to Lucca via local bus or taxi if you didn't have a car. Tranquil. Hotel directions by road from Pisa airport less than helpful. Several of us got lost varying from 21/4 hours to 1 1/2 hours for a 30 minute journey. |

the Hotel was lovely but when we arrived we were confronted by the receptionist who had made a mistake with our email address and tried to tell us we owed the hotel for a taxi etc she was adament and rude and we felt very unconfortable. until my wife asked her to show the email and noticed that it was the wrong email address she then backed down . |

Very Grand old house which is situated about 3 km from Lucca, a quiet retreat away from the hustle and bustle of the town. very relaxing and easy to find, with lovely grounds Internet access was limited and the place is a little bit tired. I would however stay here again |

Elegant old villa on the road from Lucca to Pisa. Sits back from the road on generous but somewhat overgrown grounds, so very quiet. Big swimming pool. Several large salons on the ground floor. Former stables are now dining area and meeting rooms. Large comfortable room. Nice buffet breakfast. Dining room was closed the night we were there, but excellent restaurant down a small road nearly opposite the hotel. The hotel meets four-star standards, and we would certainly stay there again for the excellent rate we had, but it is looking just a little tired. The grounds need some trimming and sweeping, and the ground floor public areas seem a little dark and dated. |

We had a lovely stay overall and would go back again. The staff were welcoming and friendly. The main hotel/Villa and the drive up to it are grand and give a good first impression. The restaurant setting was romantic and the food was quite good although expensive enough. The breakfast was very good. We stayed in a building adjacent to the main Villa which was comfortable and spacious although a bit dull/dated. The PVC clad ceiling in the bedroom is a big mistake! We didn't have a car and it's a 15 Euro (3km) taxi ride to Lucca however buses are cheap and regular but last one home is 7.30pm. Beware of insect bites as the site is slightly overgrown although very beautiful & peaceful. |
