You need a car but if you want to see Palermo and the Monreale cathedral it is advisable to stay out in the country and the host is very obliging.
Dogs barking in the night
this place is more an event restaurant with a hotel adjourned for people to stay overnight after the event. Food was ok, too expensive though!
Too loud music into the middle of the night. Quite poor breakfast!
This was the location for the last night of our holiday and we were really looking forward to staying in this 4 star (???) hotel. We had stayed at a number of really good hotels and the Villa Medea was a disappointment to say the least. The photos on the website do not show it as it truly is. Despite advising the hotel of our approximate arrival time we were greeted by padlocked iron gates and barking guard dogs. The staff in the café which was next door but one did not know anything about the hotel but kindly telephoned the number on the booking form. We were told to wait for 10 minutes and someone would turn up to let us in. After 15 minutes outside the locked gates with the dogs barking we were about to leave when a man and a woman arrived to let us in. As we were the only guests and the hotel looked as if it had been closed since last summer we were reluctant to stay but told we would be charged €15 if we cancelled. The man said he was the chef and would cook us an evening meal. Our room was spacious and looked out over the courtyard which had seen better days. We did not go out as the guard dogs were still roaming. We were offered a hand written menu with a few choices. The food was adequate but served in the middle of a huge empty ballroom. The chef was having a business meeting with someone going through papers at an adjacent table which did not help the atmosphere. There was no hot water in the room for a shower and a number of the lights in the room did not work. The next morning the breakfast was barely adequate, four greasy croissants.. This could not be considered a four star hotel and the pictures on the website do not show it as it really is. All in all not a good experience to round off our holiday.
