Great location in a quiet residential setting yet within walking distance of major sights. Hotel staff was very helpful, professional and friendly. Doesn't have means for effective hair drying (my wife was disappointed and inconvenienced)

The hotel was perfectly located for easy access to the fao and the metro, slightly less of a walk than from the sister hotels in the same beautiful Aventino district. Undeniably, the garden and the breakfast area are sublime, and the breakfast itself quite pleasant. I was impressed by the enormous size of the room where I spent the first night. Nice too to have a mini-bar with an acceptable wine. Although the room the next two nights was smaller, it was even prettier and had a fantastic balcony up against one of those magnificent local pines. Having stayed once at the Hotel Aventino, I was curious about the San Anselmo and the San Pio. Although the San Anselmo had a very generous special offer on for the same days, I allowed myself to be influenced by the reviews on the two, and chose to spend quite alot more at the San Pio in return for refined decor, perfect quiet, functioning wifi, and a well praised breakfast. Sadly, I was disappointed on most counts. Nowhere were there the antique paintings and Oriental rugs that featured so prominently in the description. The floors were wooden and bare. The only painting was stencilled patterns on the walls. Nor was it quiet, as I was given a room on the street and parking side, with all the people commotion to and from the breakfast area. Although I was able to change rooms, I could still hear traffic afterwards. The wifi only worked the first evening. Even after repeated attempts with new passwords, the service refused to perform, and the hotel staff suggested it was my computer. This was not true. Although rain prevented guests from taking breakfast outdoors on the patio, there was a perfectly lovely conservatory alternative. However, though a cappucino machine had received admiring mention in the reviews, I never saw it and was somewhat let down by what was a distinctly machine coffee. The breakfast was reasonable, but I was quite surprised to overhear another guest being charged an excessive amount to have a friend join her for it. I didn't find the selection that overwhelming. There were problems with the shower in the first room, the water dribbling out from the joint on the shower cord. The bathrooms were very dark. Next time I will sample the San Anselmo, especially if there is the price differential again. The experience at the Hotel San Pio, while charming in many ways, was definitely not worth the extra money.

This was my third time in the Hotel, as it is vey pleasantly located. The Hotel Rooms have somehow deteriorated, and they are not well kept (maintenance) the TVs in the rooms are very small, the back of the fridge(on which the TV was) was a hole thru which you could see cables. Staff friendly and somewhat helpful. three stars are enough for this hotel.

Location - out of the crowded city full of tourists - to the peace and tranquility of the Aventine Hill. An easy walk to the top of the hill to view parts of Rome, and watch the sun set over the Tiber and vatican City. Easy walk to Coliseum, Palatine etc. Lovely shady garden for coffee, breakfast or bar, and wrap-around balcony for private sitting. No extra charge for food/drink delivered to room Cleaning staff very discrete, we have never seen them and this was our 3 stay in the hotel

Staff assistance was excellent. Volunteered valuable advice about area activities etc.. Restaurant facilites and food were terrific. Very secure area and neighbourhood. Wonderful terrace off room. Reasonable walking distance to Metro system. Bathroom facilities in our specific room needed some repairs. Further walk than anticipated to neighbourhood shops.

Front desk and restaurant staff absolutely wonderful. Beautiful building And a Nice shower/bathroom (différent from room to room). Our room was extremely noisy since an early time in the morning. The noise came from the street and inside the facility. Despite everything else that is nice with the place I won't stay there again due to noise.

The Hotel Villa San Pio is in a quiet area; while a little far from the center, it's actually quite close for how peaceful it is (and inexpensive to return by taxi, if you're lucky enough that there isn't a taxi strike while you're there). The staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful, and all speak reasonable English. It is a little out of the way for 'going out on the town', and on the expensive side. The rooms also vary a great deal in size, and beds are small, which is typical for Italy but something to be aware of.

Overall a great place to stay. Location fairly close to the metro system (Pyramides), which puts a lot of tourist attractions within easy access. Room was sufficiently large, clean bathrooms and with internet access -- charge is encompassed in daily room costs if using wire (extra for wireless). Affordable pricing. Fabulous breakfast in enclosed garden -- a great feature. Staff was courteous and friendly. Had an enjoyable stay. The bathroom design -- the wc was literally hugging the wall! The bidet on the other hand was well positioned (at the very least, the situation should be reversed?). The directions to the hotel from the Rome Termini station could be provided in a simpler way. The access is far easier from the Pyramides metro stop, and this should be emphasized over Circus Maximus. Took us a while to figure out our way to the hotel from Circus Maximus stop, especially since we arrived at night.

The hotel is in a quiet and lovely section of Rome, the Aventino. It was once three villas, and is connected by a beautiful courtyard and outdoor space, with a greenhouse-like breakfast room that is a rare and peaceful respite from the hustle and bustle of the city. The breakfast is ample and delicious, and the staff friendly and welcoming. No negative feedback-- just a word of warning that access to public transportation requires a walk down-- or up-- a fairly steep hill, which we knew as we had stayed at their sister hotel before.

The location, proximity to metro stations, or if you enjoy walking through the suburbs this is the place. The breakfast was first class, the staff were helpful and friendly. The area the hotel was located had some amazing value for money restaurants which were always hard to get a booking.

Gente joven sobretodo. ” Pablo, Canet De Berenguer |

“Hotel Aventino was actually closed due to the holiday season, but we were up-graded to one of its sister hotels just around the corner, Hotel San Pio. This review is based on Hotel San Pio. Beautiful setting/gardens, friendly & helpful staff, free parking & wi-fi, walking distance to many of the attractions in Rome.” Stephen, Westleigh |
