Villa Torretta

Great staff. Large clean rooms with great views of the lake. Great location next to lake ferry terminal and head of the lakefront path into village of Varenna, proper. The Villa Toretta is administered by the Hotel Olivedo next door: go to there for keys, breakfast, services.

Be aware that being close to the car ferry terminal will cause some early morning noise.

Loved Laura and her staff. Very warm, friendly and helpful. Nice dinner. Quiet room (#4)

Hard to find (IMPORTANT!check in at hotel next door). No wifi in room.

Location for off- season. During summer months would seem to be too close to ferry landing.

found one silverfish in bed linens. Shower had small amounts of mold. Think that for off season rate should be a little lower.

What other time would you have a chance to stay in a villa? Our tiny balcony had a lovely view. The villa is just 50 steps from the ferry dock, but not too noisy and so convenient. Check in & breakfast is next door at Hotel Olivedo. The villa has three locked doors to go through so you do feel secure. We found the staff friendly and helpful.

Noise by ferry but not too bad and no wi fi in room . If going there ,go to ferry parking lot and look behind you... Ck in at restaurant... No signage except plaque on villa so gps wont get you there!

Lovely older villa by the lake. Very friendly staff.

The continental breakfast is just ok. This is beyond the Villa's control - but the noise from the road above the Villa starts at 04:30 am. If you are a light sleeper, this will not work for you.

The location right on the waterfront of Lake Como in the small town of Varenna is magnificent. The personal touch is special and the rooms are cosy with a welcoming feel and touch

Larua made us feel very welcome. She always greeted us with a smile and even gave us a choice between 2 different rooms. We loved the ambiance of the quaint hotel. The breakfast was good and the coffee wonderful! The view was unbeatable. We would definitely stay there again.

Signora Laura is a fantastic hostess! We were greeted with open arms and felt as if she was awaiting our arrival. The Villa is open to explore, has beautiful lake views, and wonderful terraces to find your own private spot to relax. This is a great value for the price. The lake, and Varenna especially, was the most relaxing part of our 2 weeks in Italy!

excellent location, right off the ferry, no steps to climb and short walk to train station. Beautiful view. Quaint B&B with outdoor tables overlooking beautiful Lake Como. Staff accommodating. Decent breakfast included. Easy access to ferries to travel to other towns.

We had a great view of the lake from our room and from the terrace while enjoying a great location right atthe ferry so there was always lots of activity and easy access to the other larger towns on the Lake Como. It's also an easy walk to the center of town along the lakeside boardwalk. Great little restaurant right next door for lakeside dining.

We did have a slight ant invasion and other bugs with whom we shared our room. A can of Raid could take care of this as the room was otherwise great!

Clean and lovely features in hotel took you to another time and place. The lack of Wifi, tv and aircon was a reminder of the Halcyon days. Some have criticised it for the mods and cons but this is what adds to the charm of the stay there. Lovely lake views and of Varenna life going by. For once the dated furnishings actually complemented the Villa and therefore added a lot of character to the place. Bathroom was very clean and to a high standard.

Parking wasn't free. Very noisy due to ferries coming in and out all day, very regularly. Playpark outside window didnt help either, neither did the bar next door playing music till late. Saying this once it was quiet it was very very quiet and ferries didnt start until 8ish. Can be a tad warm in room 7 (mid august) but electric fan and lowering blinds helped.

The Villa was absolutely beautiful! We felt like royalty when we relaxed on the large patio in front overlooking the marina and ferry dock. Comments on Yelp about noise at night were unfounded. Yes, the square is busy in evening, but by 10:30 all is quiet. The host, Laura, could not have been more personable and accommodating to our needs. This area of Lk Como is gorgeous and I would highly recommend this to anyone.

We loved waking up to Lake Como on the Villa's doorstep and the wonderful view of the lake from our balcony window. We also loved the old-style decor and cleanliness of the rooms, the sense of living in an elegant old home (as opposed to a hotel) and the lovely terrace. Laura and the staff at the nearby Hotel Olivedo (where breakfast is served) made us feel very welcome. You can ask them anything. We enjoyed some well-priced evening meals at the hotel and it was a nice spot for afternoon drinks. Being in Varenna, the Villa is in an excellent location. It is central to everything on the lake and easily accessible by train as well and ferry.

The lake facing aspect of the Villa's rooms means they get the afternoon sun but the view is worth it and closing the shutters keeps the room cool if you are out during the day. The Villa's proximity to the ferry and lake promenade also means it is exposed to the noise of daily life on the lake, but we didn't mind. We spent very little time in our room. There is so much to see and do on the lake and Varenna on a summer evening is still buzzing until quite late. The Villa's location, decor, cleanliness and the friendly staff outweighed any minor inconveniences.

We stayed at the Villa Toretta in May of 2013. We were warmly greeted by our host, Laura, and brought to our room which turned out to be in a separate cottage on the grounds of the Villa. Our apartment was clean and spacious with a view of the square and the lake. The Villa is only a short walk from the train station, and the closest hotel to the ferry which docks at the square. You can walk easily to the center of town either by using the upper street or using the lakeside walkway. Laura was our hostess at dinner as well and we enjoyed all the meals we had at the hotel. Laura looked after us well. I would certainly stay here again-- we had a wonderful time in Varenna and part of that was our experience at the Villa.

A very romantic small hotel by the side of one of the most beautiful lakes in the world. It is like stepping back into a genteel past, almost in sepia tone. Antique furniture, absolute peace, at night just the sound of lake water lapping nearby. We had room no. 8 with a corner terrace and a superb view over the lake and mountains, just the right place to be early evening with a bottle of cool white wine from the bar at the sister Hotel Olivedo next door. The lady who runs both places is very charming and helpful.

During our stay at the end of June 2012 it was beautifully warm by day, around 25c and comfortable by night. If the weather had been any hotter we would have missed air-conditioning in the room. Otherwise we would not change anything.

A beautiful villa in a beautiful location overlooking the lake, close to the station (10 mins away) and opposite the ferry landing, so perfect for exploring. Laura is a wonderful host. We ate in the hotel on 2 nights and the food was delicious. Breakfast is simple continental and served outside on the square which is great. The villa has a great living room and conservatory and private tables outside, so loads of space to enjoy. Ignor the reviews that criticise this place for not having TVs, lifts and aircon!!! Frankly that is madness. It was a hot week when we stayed and the rooms were perfectly cool - this house was built way before the days of lifts. This is a beautiful traditional place to stay - who on earth wants to spend their time on Lake Como watching TV when you can sit out with a glass of wine and watch life go by on the Lakeside. A fantastic place - would recommend to anyone. Thanks Laura for a wonderful holiday :0)

The lady welcoming us in the neighboring hotel was very nice and we really had an impression that we were welcome and were given a nice room. The room itself was like from an aristocratic fairytale villa, with a terrace giving to the lake (all the rooms in this Villa have lake view). The guests have at their disposal on the first floor large common space as well as the terrace with common seating.

The villa gives to the harbor, which means that there are boats coming during the whole day and it is pretty noisy. Furthermore, on a Saturday night there was a loud disco playing nearby until 2 am.

Unfriendly Manager (Laura) over priced, unbearably hot, appalling breakfast, no air conditioning, no TV - this is definately a place to avoid.

We didn't stay in the main hotel so unfortunately we can't comment on it , we were given a separate villa on the hill side next to the main hotel, this was old world but very private clean and comfortable, it also had a balcony over looking Lake Como it was a beautiful view.

Lovely villa with beautiful furniture and big rooms and bathrooms. Delicious food at the restaurant and the service was excellent. A bit noisy at night at times as it is right on the water but many hotels in Italy are a bit noisy. Location was very beautiful - flowers, mountains, beauty everywhere around you. Varenna was superb.
