Used as the set for famous costume movies and supposed birthplace of Mona Lisa, Vignamaggio offers unique accommodation in the Tuscan countryside. One of the oldest wine estates situated in the Chianti Classico region, Vignamaggio is made up of a 14th-century Renaissance villa where rooms and suites are located, surrounded by beautiful Italian gardens. The restored farm buildings located around the grounds are now home to luxurious apartments. Vignamaggio's grounds feature everything you could ask for from a vacation in the Tuscan countryside. Enjoy a game of tennis, have a refreshing swim in one of the outdoor pools or go horse-riding through the woods. Bikes are available free of charge and kids have their own playground. Vignamaggio has a spa center, where you can use the Turkish baths free of charge. The hotel has also its own gym which comes complete with Jacuzzi. Go for walks down to the river past vineyards and olive groves or just sunbathe a terrace. Shoot some pool in the games room indoors, play ping pong or just relax with a cup of tea in one of the historic drawing rooms. In Vignamaggio's common areas you can enjoy complimentary hot drinks and snacks all day long. A stay at Vignamaggio wouldn't be complete without tasting the excellent wine produced on site. Guided tours of the gardens, cellars and museum are run daily and you can taste wine and olive oil free of charge at the shop. There is also a charming wine bar which overlooks the vineyards. Taste genuine Tuscan cuisine at Vignamaggio's restaurant or try your hand at cooking yourself with one of the cooking classes which can be organized for you. Beautiful setting. VERY nice staff. Great location between Siena and Florence. Just far enough off of the main road, but not too far off. VERY Large room, about 3 times larger than our rooms in Rome which were just as expensive. Beautiful views of Chianti/Tuscany. Nice hot tub/pool. Great wine/food/cooking lesson experience. Wifi in the room wasn't working. That would be nice. TV/Movie choice poor, but I know you aren't in Tuscany to watch tv. Not the end of the world. If I could change one thing, I would relocate the olive trees that are in front of the Pool down by the spa so people at the pool could see the countryside better. Also, maybe I would offer a Pizza/Pasta dinner/lunch menu for people who don't want the big/long dinner...Maybe down by where breakfast was served? Not sure. Still, LOVED this place. Would HIGHLY recommend it. Will probably be back as soon as we can afford it/Get the time off of work.

The grounds and ambience of this historical villa-turned winery was lovely. We had an apartment which was elegantly furnished and extremely comfortable. The setting is isolated and quiet with spectacular views of the Chianti hills. Given the remote location, charging for breakfast and for tours of the gardens on on-site wine cellars seemed opportunistic, and at these prices, offensive. Staff presence was minimal and uninformed about amenities of the property.

It was wonderful and was a welcome relief after a hectic week of sightseeing in Roma. The staff is accomodating, the wine tasting and tour is interesting. The grounds and the historic buildings are spectacular. The vistas from all parts of the property are pure Tuscan beauty. Our small apartment was very comfortable and I recommend the wine dinner: The food is gourmet and the host is great fun.

Everything about this hotel is STUNNING. The staff was incredibly helpful and bent over backwards to do or answer anything for us. There was plenty of space in our room for two adults and two young children. There is plenty of room to play outside with the kids. We tried one of the hikes but due to recent snowfall there were a lot of downed trees which made hiking with a stroller very difficult so we settled for borrowing a ball and kicking it around instead. The countryside is gorgeous and quiet. The hotel restaurant was closed due to off season but we found very delicious restaurants in town that were only ten minutes away. We would VERY HIGHLY recommend this hotel to anyone and would happily stay here again. Breakfast was delicious, it was just a little costly for the small variety they had.

Location, old villa buildings, gardens, that it had been the location for the movie, "Much Ado About Nothing"; nearness to Greve and shopping; hiking trails on the property; wine tasting with the resident expert Expensive for off season and we did not know that most of the services were not open yet, even though advertised (example the turkish baths). Our room was small and dark, even though the big rooms in the main villa were empty. We would prefer to have the choice to upgrade to a better room. The b'fast was ok, but plain and not worth 10 Euros extra.

It lived up to its reputation as a Villa for the movie set; Rustic houses, gorgeous gardens, lovely statues. And who can forget the rooms, the good folks upgraded us to the 1 room apartment suite, The fact that the reception leaves after 5pm does not bother us one bit!! In fact, we were the only couple in the whole villa that 2 nights and we loved the freedom. We strolled when we felt liked it, time almost stopped carelessly at Vignamaggio. 2 nights is a travesty. At least 3 nights folks! 1Hr bus ride from Florence sita and another 15Euros for a 10min Limo- ride from bus stop to the villa, courtesy of the hotel's recommended Limo service, Mr Stephano. But its the country side, its expected!.

We paid a little extra for an 'apartment' and we got our own private 1 bed cottage in the grounds of the beautiful Villa. Staff were very helpful, rooms were very clean and well maintained. The wine tour and dinner in the restaurant is a must for anyone visiting the villa. Had a fantaastic massage in the Wellness area and we felt like we had the place entirely to ourselves (which was just what we wanted after travelling for a month!)

Wonderful Tuscan villa in a magnificent location: close to Greve in Chianti and to all the other important areas of Chianti Classico, while Florence is only about 1h away. The Villa is incredibly elegant and perfectly restored. The gardens very beautiful too. The views of Tuscany are the best you can ask for: rolling hills, vineyards, forest. Vignamaggio truly has it all: the rooms are very elegant and perfectly kept. The staff is friendly and very hands on. Restaurant is great also and the Vignamaggio-bottled wines are truly world-class... I highly recommend it.

The staff was very helpful, friendly and curteous. The location is very pitturesque, vignards as far as the eye can see. The wine tour was amazing. Villa Vignamaggio is a gem to visit! Please exercise caution when driving the long and winding road to get there.

Fantastic surroundings, nature, arcitecture, wine and food. Unforgettable! And the crew was very service minded and helpful assisting us with anything. The two pools and the spa was great and we used it a lot during the stay. Don't forget to try Restoro de Lamole about 7 km up the hill from Vignamaggio. Great food and view over the whole valley. Perfect!

Leaving the property. Staff is poorly trained. Front desk open from 9 A.M. to 7 P.M. only. Staff was nice there but no staff on the property after 7---you are alone in a rural area for 14 hrs. Each day. God forbid there is a serious problem. Grounds have been let go. Appears 75 yr. Old gardener is the only one taking care of property. Wellness center is not staffed-- no towels, no lockers, no robes If you make an appointment, therapist shows up but is not present other times. Tennis court closed. Both pools were not staffed with anyone during 4 day stay. The whole property is self-service and looks shoddy. Breakfast ok but is an expensive additional charge. Dinner a disaster. Has the appearance of a forthcoming bankruptcy. And it's not cheap either.

Wow! Trattamenti altamente professionali a prezzi vantaggiosi. Torneremo senz'altro. We met quite a few English speaking guests there and they were exctatic. Our advice to those looking for the right place to experience the true Tuscany and Chianti. This is the place!
