Villa VignamaggioVia Petriolo N. 5, 50022 Greve (Show map) Wonderful, Score from 43 reviewsUsed as the set for famous costume movies and supposed birthplace of Mona Lisa, Vignamaggio offers unique accommodation in the Tuscan countryside. One of the oldest wine estates situated in the Chianti Classico region, Vignamaggio is made up of a 14th-century Renaissance villa where rooms and suites are located, surrounded by beautiful Italian gardens. The restored farm buildings located around the grounds are now home to luxurious apartments. Vignamaggio's grounds feature everything you could ask for from a vacation in the Tuscan countryside. Enjoy a game of tennis, have a refreshing swim in one of the outdoor pools or go horse-riding through the woods. Bikes are available free of charge and kids have their own playground. Vignamaggio has a spa center, where you can use the Turkish baths free of charge. The hotel has also its own gym which comes complete with Jacuzzi. Go for walks down to the river past vineyards and olive groves or just sunbathe a terrace. Shoot some pool in the games room indoors, play ping pong or just relax with a cup of tea in one of the historic drawing rooms. In Vignamaggio's common areas you can enjoy complimentary hot drinks and snacks all day long. A stay at Vignamaggio wouldn't be complete without tasting the excellent wine produced on site. Guided tours of the gardens, cellars and museum are run daily and you can taste wine and olive oil free of charge at the shop. There is also a charming wine bar which overlooks the vineyards. Taste genuine Tuscan cuisine at Vignamaggio's restaurant or try your hand at cooking yourself with one of the cooking classes which can be organized for you. Hotel Rooms: 25

It lived up to its reputation as a Villa for the movie set; Rustic houses, gorgeous gardens, lovely statues. And who can forget the rooms, the good folks upgraded us to the 1 room apartment suite, The fact that the reception leaves after 5pm does not bother us one bit!! In fact, we were the only couple in the whole villa that 2 nights and we loved the freedom. We strolled when we felt liked it, time almost stopped carelessly at Vignamaggio. 2 nights is a travesty. At least 3 nights folks! 1Hr bus ride from Florence sita and another 15Euros for a 10min Limo- ride from bus stop to the villa, courtesy of the hotel's recommended Limo service, Mr Stephano. But its the country side, its expected!.

We paid a little extra for an 'apartment' and we got our own private 1 bed cottage in the grounds of the beautiful Villa. Staff were very helpful, rooms were very clean and well maintained. The wine tour and dinner in the restaurant is a must for anyone visiting the villa. Had a fantaastic massage in the Wellness area and we felt like we had the place entirely to ourselves (which was just what we wanted after travelling for a month!)

Wonderful Tuscan villa in a magnificent location: close to Greve in Chianti and to all the other important areas of Chianti Classico, while Florence is only about 1h away. The Villa is incredibly elegant and perfectly restored. The gardens very beautiful too. The views of Tuscany are the best you can ask for: rolling hills, vineyards, forest. Vignamaggio truly has it all: the rooms are very elegant and perfectly kept. The staff is friendly and very hands on. Restaurant is great also and the Vignamaggio-bottled wines are truly world-class... I highly recommend it.

The staff was very helpful, friendly and curteous. The location is very pitturesque, vignards as far as the eye can see. The wine tour was amazing. Villa Vignamaggio is a gem to visit! Please exercise caution when driving the long and winding road to get there.

The reception staff was very friendly and helped us with restaurant suggestions and reservations. As well the pool areas were well maintained and enjoyable. We stayed in the Casolese aprartments, and the only drawback was that there is some noise from the traffic.

Fantastic surroundings, nature, arcitecture, wine and food. Unforgettable! And the crew was very service minded and helpful assisting us with anything. The two pools and the spa was great and we used it a lot during the stay. Don't forget to try Restoro de Lamole about 7 km up the hill from Vignamaggio. Great food and view over the whole valley. Perfect!

Leaving the property. Staff is poorly trained. Front desk open from 9 A.M. to 7 P.M. only. Staff was nice there but no staff on the property after 7---you are alone in a rural area for 14 hrs. Each day. God forbid there is a serious problem. Grounds have been let go. Appears 75 yr. Old gardener is the only one taking care of property. Wellness center is not staffed-- no towels, no lockers, no robes If you make an appointment, therapist shows up but is not present other times. Tennis court closed. Both pools were not staffed with anyone during 4 day stay. The whole property is self-service and looks shoddy. Breakfast ok but is an expensive additional charge. Dinner a disaster. Has the appearance of a forthcoming bankruptcy. And it's not cheap either.

The grounds are very beautiful and serene, though the "private" signs all over the place made it rather unwelcoming. Very overpriced for the quality of the accommodation. The bed was uncomfortable - with serious sagging on one side. Our first room (we asked to be moved and they kindly obliged, which was good of them) was a dark musty apartment that had a large spider with eggs in the bathroom and some dirt in the bath proper. The shower was in the bath and handheld so quite inconvenient. Supposedly this was a superior room they had "upgraded" us to, but when we asked we were moved into a basic room that seemed a hundred times nicer (aside from the bed - though the first room's bed was also uncomfortable). Apart from that the service was generally very hands off, they advertise a winery tour and a restaurant that were not mentioned at all during our stay. Breakfast was expensive at 14 euro pp and is in a separate building down a hill. We ate there twice and on the second occasion (which was reasonably busy - though not terribly busy) were ignored by the service staff for quite some time - despite requests for coffee and our table to be provided with plates/cutlery. We don't mind reserved service but generally it seemed to be the sort of place where you needed to assert yourself to get the basics,so couldn't recommend at this price.

“I cannot recommend this resort enough, the staff were fantastic and we had the best day trip ever wine tasting in Chianti which was a very memorable day of holiday mainly due to the resort staff. It was the best value for money we had in Italy and the chateau (the apartment was inside) we stayed in was great with beautiful frescos on the wall.” William, Brussels |
