The hotel building dates from 1039. We sat on the terrace area with a glass of their own made organic wine and watched and incredible sunset. Splendid seclusion with a delightful village 15 mins walk down the hill.
We were given a downgrade on checkin - we booked a split level junior suite and were given a standard room. We found dried blood on our sheets, complained and with a very poor attitude the clerk reluctantly 'upgraded' us to the room we should have been in. We went to the restaurant in the evening and they got put out by the fact we didn't have a reservation. They parked us in the section apart from the main restaurant. We were there from 7.30 to 9.30 and only 2 other couples ever showed up. The food was average at best and overpriced for the area. Our room had incredibly thin wall and we could hear EVERYTHING the neighbors were saying, down to being able to hear one of them lightly snoring.
Beautiful landscape; Nice staff; Perfect view from our room as well as from the restaurant and terrace; Good restaurant for dinner
Missing mosquito net; Cups and other used things were not refilled by the staff when used in the room
The staff, especially Elio for his help and all his culinary recommendations. A pure treat to meet someone so nice.
An incredible place to stay - we had 8 nights here. It's up in the hills, so it's quiet with wonderful views. The building itself is stunning, the grounds are huge with walks. The swimming pool is good, some say too cold, i say refreshing. We had dinner a few times and the food was excellent. It's not cheap but about right for what you get - quality. Breakfast is good with a selection of cold cuts, cheese, bread, eggs, fruit, yoghurt, coffee etc. can't go wrong here. Staff were good, helpful, friendly. We had to leave for a very early flight and they prepared breakfast goody bags for us to take on the journey and coffee at 3.30 am! It's basically like staying in a HUGE house, so it's not soundproof like a modern hotel, but this is from the 14th Century, so that's to be expected. not a problem. I would say you really need a car to stay here. The nearest village is walking distance, BUT i wouldn't risk it at night along the narrow winding roads with no lights. There's a train station at S.Ellero, but you need a car to get there. Taxi's are hard to come by in this remote place. We drove to Firenze many times - it's only about 40 mins away - the scenic route along the river is great. The motorway is nearby too, making this a good location as a base to explore the area. An amazing place perfect for a quiet getaway. Would recommend.
Wifi. They have it, but it's so slow, it's almost useless. personally had to use my phone/roaming to achieve what i needed. no 4G up here either but still quicker than the wifi!
Good recommendation to eat by the concierge (Da Giacomo) Views Close to Florence Architecture & gardens
Pool needs to be renovated (mot a major issue though) Limited wifi
Lovely building and garden.
The villa is charming and set in a beautiful location
Grounds overgrown and poorly maintained. Staff were thin on the ground and in need of training. Woeful wi-fi connection.
location, clean rooms general service.
cost of transport, cost of wine, had electrical item removed from room.
the location, grounds, most of the staff could speak English. we also liked saying in a period property that has not been modernised to much and retains its old world charm.
we think the hotel could have its own shuttle service to St Ellero station, even if it charged a small fare. we found the coffee & water at breakfast was only warm more often than not.
Very impressive and cozy hotel! Very "italian", wounderful location, great nature around!
