The room was advertised in booking.com as a 2 rooms apartment with kitchen corner. The published address was also different. It turned out to be only one room, very small, with only the place for the 2 queen beds and no space to move. The TV was not working, the air conditioning was only on or off, no kitchen facilities at all and the location is only good to go river rafting, but is far away from any nice beach or from any restaurants / shops. Considering that in Port Antonio it rains a lot it is a bit annoying to have only so little livable space to stay. Given the situation we told the owner we were moving to another hotel the next days, so we only stayed 1 night out of 3. the room was paid in advance through credit card (which had gone via paypal through booking.com), but the owner said it was not paid. Fortunately I had the credit card invoice, where the payment was stated. They therefore showed me they were issuing a refund on the paypal site, but until now (2 months after) I have not yet received it. I absolutely suggest to look for some property in the area between Port Antonio and the blue lagoon. We stayed at the tropical lagoon resort, which is certainly more expensive but absolutely great.
This property does have direct beach access, although it is a pebble beach and not particularly nice by Jamaican standards. The owners only took over the property in July so maybe they will improve their hosting skills and management of the property. The downstairs room might be good value for a group of four backpacking - it just doesn't meet the 'luxurious villa' description.
We felt misled by the property description: - They are not 'villas' - they are rooms in someone's house - ie it is a guesthouse/b&b - which is fine if that's what you're expecting. - We looked at two rooms - downstairs and upstairs. The upstairs room is quite nice and reasonably private. Both have separate access which is good. Although in both upstairs and downstairs (esp downstairs), the bathroom is filthy, the linen and towels and bath mats awful(see below). The downstairs room is simply terrible - it has an internal door directly into the family loungeroom which has been 'blocked off'. You can hear the family watching tv at night (it's loud) and a lot of light comes through the crack in the door - it's hard to sleep and doesn't feel private. It feels like staying at someone's house - which would be fine if you weren't paying $95 per night. - they are not luxurious, in fact the bathrooms were terrible - they clearly hadn't been tiled by a professional tiler so the tiles were all over the place and not level, and in the downstairs room - big chunks were missing - parts of the wall prepped but not yet tiled - the bathroom tiles were filthy with limescale and mould and we wore flip flops while showering - the property is in St Margaret's Bay rather than Dolphin Bay, Dolphins Bay is alot closer to the Blue Lagoon and other main attractions of the area, although St Margaret's Bay is on the Rio Grande if you want to raft - the linen is just horrible - 100% microfiber made in china - which means in the heat - you stick to it plus it slips around all over the bed - the air conditioner in the downstairs room didn't work at all. It was so hot. the owners response was that 'we should have asked for a fan '.
