Great location in Amman...right across from Hashem (amazing hummus, falafel) and near Jafra Cafe. Very helpful staff with good travel recommendations. Fast WiFi.
Good location but noisy at night.
The owner and his family were very helpful and awesome, I loved staying there, the position is perfect, and they have amazing tours, shuttles taking you anywhere for very good money, they really helped me enjoying my time in Amman and Jordan!
If you are on a budget, you can't go wrong by choosing this hotel. Do understand the implications though. Our main highlight was going up to the terrace and smoking hookah on one of the nights we stayed here. The staff also accommodated us in another room after we spent a sleepless first night sharing a lone revolving fan in the Jordanian summer!
Unfortunately, the room you get will mostly dictate your experience in this hostel. There was a loud party on our second night that made it two sleepless nights in a row. The staff also said they would check with other backpacker hotels such as Farah in case any day trips could be organised since we arrived in low season but we never heard of any trips being organised. We had to pay an exorbitant amount for private tour in order not to waste our limited days in Amman. The staff had also assured us that we would be taken to a desert castle on our way to the airport but after almost an hour of going round in circles because no one knew where the place was, we had to abandon the idea in favour of catching our return flight back in time.
Shared facilities were always clean and usually there was no need to wait to use the shower or toilet. Rooms had a simple sink and mirror which I thought was great, too. Staff was always helpful with giving advice on visiting Amman or traveling in Jordan in general. Special greetings to Andrew! A simple greeting from the Cliff can open you doors in other places in Jordan - it is an institution. The hostel offers cheap laundry and airport pick up and drop. The common area includes a lively living room with TV, Wifi, comfy sofas and always someone new to meet and chat. There is also a rooftop terrace which serves as a great hangout in the evenings. Location is everything, they say. Hashem restaurant is just opposite and manages to attract tourists and locals alike and somehow stayed authentic through the years. Great falafel! A nice bakery for a snack in the morning is just opposite the entrance of the hostel. Also a small shop for drinks and misc stuff is next door. Coffee shop and some simple restaurants in the adjacent alleys. A short walk brings you to the old souk surrounding Al Husseini Mosque. Enroute are juice stands, money exchange places and lots of different shops... Of note is also Darat Al Funun, which is just a 7 minute climb of the opposite hill away and is a relaxing place to see some local art and have a nice coffee in the shade of a beautiful garden. Great views of the city, too! I could go on, but you get the message: The Cliff hostel is an awesome choice for you and your budget when staying in Amman!
Due to the great location (downtown) there will be some noise - if you sleep light, do bring some earplugs. Some more hooks in the rooms for towels and clothes would be a thoughtful addition.
Good accomodation with excellent travel advise from the staff at an perfect location downtown.
Nothing too dislike
Basic room in a good location - downtown. Friendly and helpful staff. Nice atmosphere. Good value for Money.
No fridge. Noise and clarity from outsider.
fair comparing with amount of money you pay.....good location .....
only sharing bathroms but no problem so far
The Cliff is a great place to meet people. Stayed there several times over the last 15 years. Staff members are nice. It's clean. The bathrooms are clean. The location is the best in Amman if you want to be where the real Amman is (there are a lot of new areas in sprawl that aren't like Amman at all). Being across from Hashem Restaurant is the most important thing. Hashem is the best place I've found while traveling the entire world. So many good experiences with the Cliff and Hashem. So I recommend the Cliff.
My room this stay was a bit noisy. It's downtown, though, and that's almost unavoidable if you want to be in the heart of things. Earplugs would have been cleared it all up, and if I'd been properly tired, no worries at all.
Staff were very helpful and knowledgeable
The owners/managers are very friendly and helpful. Noise was not an issue during our stay in room 6. Showers, toilets and rooms were clean. Within walking distance to the Citadel, Roman Amphitheater, Fruit/Vegetable Souq, Hashem Restaurant, Rainbow Street.....
Don't be put off by the outside appearance and cleanliness of the stairwell as the hotel is clean inside.
All the staff is AWSOME! So nice and helpful! I loved staying here!
Location Staff Price
The staff there were amazing and very friendly especially George and Andrew. They were always willing to give advice and help out whenever things weren't going to plan. And they spoke great English which makes things less daunting when you first arrive. The best things was that I paid for a single room but they gave me a twin which was great and made my stay very comfortable indeed.
It could be a bit noisy especially when there was a football match being shown in one of the restaurants adjacent to the hostel. The shower was temperamental and could be scorching or freezing in a matter of seconds and wasn't cleaned that often. You are also unable to cook but food is cheap in Jordan if you like falafel and hummous.
The location was awesome, I could not find it at first but apparently it just right in the front of Hashem restaurant (which is quite famous place to eat). Everything just nearby and one's could easily get around. George and Fouad were very helpful & informative. I pretty much like the balcony with the view directly to the street. Downstair on the 1st level they hav a nice coffeshop, we spend some time there. Also there's bakery & shops nearby to buy foods. The price was very economic but it's worth more than that. It's also clean and they ensured everyone will have a good stay there.
Some people smoke a lot in the living room. It's a bit a problem if you're a non-smoker but anyway this is Jordan (a very friendly place for smoker).
The location is great and the staff very helpful. It's not particularly luxurious or clean, but for the price point it's everything you need.
Ive stayed in Jordan for more than 1 year and tried many hotel/hostels especially in wast albalad, and at the end I only stayed in Cliff hostel. The staff is amazingly kind and helpful, and they are real. It's one of the cheapest hostels in Amman, but the facilities are not less than more-expensive hostels around the neighborhood. and they do clean, not like other hostels who just organize blankets without cleaning them, Cliff hostel put their energy and time to clean the place and blankets, which was the most important thing for me.
Location(infront of Hashem hotel, close to the service taxis, 5 minutes from amphitheater, 10 minutes from the fort walking).
Andrew, the owner of the hotel is very nice, he can offer you a lot of help to give you trip advices so that you can avoid being cheated. It is in the centre of the old city so that you can walk to every famous spot within 10min.
There is only a bed and a desk and a fan in the room, nothing else. And it is very cold in winter because there is no heater. Some rooms are noisy.
The staff is great and the hostel has a pretty good location.
The room smells cigarrette, the blankets smells bad as well, does not seems clean, also very noisy, and cold. Just one toillet and one shower for all the guests.
Nice and helpful staff, very good location near the citadel and souks district
difficult to find the hostel, very old building, very basic facilities, cleaning not too good
When I first arrived and saw the facilities, I thought I would find a nicer place the next day, but the location was adequate and the best bargain for the price so I decided to stay for a few more days while I was in town. If you are looking to save money, you can't beat this place on price. The location was pretty good and if the cold weather in the winter doesn't scare you away (no heating) then this is a good choice.
There was no heating. The only thing that really annoyed me was the owner choose not to keep a roll of toilet paper in the bathroom. Instead he gave one to each dorm to share, and when we were running low, he lectured me about using too much toilet paper. Not fun when you are needing to take a dump. I didn't care for his attitude and this seems like a dumb thing to be cheap about. Toilet paper doesn't cost but a few pennies and providing it for your quests seems more than reasonable. Plus, no one wants to be lectured about other people using the toilet roll when you are trying to take a dump. I shouldn't have to ask the hotel staff permission before I use the bathroom.
The Staff was super friendly and always there to help, and the location is great!
It was very cold in the evenings and the bath was not so nice - but they will renovate very soon so that should be ok then :)
good location, nice robby, the best wifi in Jordan
too cold for everything.. chilly room, toilet, shower..
The location was great! The staff was great!
The manager, The price The location in the middle of dow town
