It was basic but clean. Its a trek to get there as its quite a distance from the main Hakone station. The staff at the front desk were polite, but did not understand a lot of English.

Big room, great breakfast, discount on Yunessun onsen, free shuttle bus - as we were walking to the hotel a man ran over to tell us! Very nice of him. Really friendly staff although little English spoken we could communicate fine. Nice onsen at hotel too. If walking to the hotel after dark take a torch as the roads have no streetlights

An easy enough walk to the Hakone outdoor museum but more like 25 minutes not 7mins. No towels provided. Tho a budget option I feel at 9000 yen a night towels could be offered. No cold water dispensers only hot. The alarms went off at 2.25am 3 times. The annoucement said in japanese it was a test and please feel at ease. The poor guests with no japanese must have been quite worried. What surprised me was the next morning when i asked why the alarms went off was i was told it was a mistake but there was no apology what so ever. It was a little difficult to find.

B&B Pension Hakone was clean and reasonably priced. Our room was quiet even during busy Golden Week. Rooms were spacious with comfortable western-style beds, tv, mini-fridge, couch. The free breakfast consisted of 7 or 8 different types of rolls. It was very nice to have an onsite onsen with free soap and shampoo/conditioner. The hotel is a 20- or 25-minute winding bus ride up the mountain from Hakone-Yumoto Station. But, it is only an 8-minute walk from Yunessun water park and its attached restaurants and spa/massage offerings. Many buses run to Yunessun, so you can use those. Otherwise the hotel is a little out of the way from Hakone downtown areas. The hotel's extremely loud fire/earthquake alarm awoke us at 2:30am one night. We found out the next morning it had been set off by mistake.

Good facilities, nice staff. The room included a tv, heating/ air-con facility and there was a lot of space in the room. The location was far from anything; we needed a shuttle bus just to go to eat dinner. The bed was very clean but the net curtains in the bedroom were a bit mouldy and the shower room and sinks didn't look too clean.

Disappointed by the location of the hotel. Unfortunately, I arrived in the evening to Hakone-Yumoto closed with tourist information. It was hard to get to hotel because too far from the train station. I took a taxi which cost me 3500yen! There are buses that take you to area b & b but if you do not speak japanese is hard to figure out which one to take, so the tourist information open is crucial! Arrived at the hotel (8.00 pm) I left our luggage in the room and when I asked where I could find a restaurant unfortunately there was nothing in the area within walking distance

It's very difficult to communicate in English. It's quite far from the bus stop that Hakone pass could be used. The room for two people turned out to have three beds. I didn't know this when I booked on the internet so I booked another single room, which was not necessary and it's a waste of my money.

Free shuttle from hotel kwowakien not at the bus stop or from yennesun mini mall/spa stop. Nice selection of pastries with coffee & juice. Clean big room. Kwowakien bus stop convenient for buses for sightseeing. No wifi, too far to walk uphill, common toilet, shower for all rooms. The microwave, hot water.in a common room.No shuttle after 8 pm. Some food at yunnesun mini mall. Family mart to hotel kwowakien. Walk up many steps to reception no lifts. Quite difficult with big bags or weak legs.

We liked nothing about both this hotel and Hakone area. If you don't want to be disappointed with Japan, you should avoid Hakone and especially this hotel. The only pro is an interesting journey by ropeway and funny mountain tram with lots of reverse turns. But if you really want to visit Hakone you'd better go there on a one-day trip. Very, very budget appearance despite of quite high price. Hotel is very old, everything outside room is dirty. In winter it's very cold in long corridors and even in the breakfast room (it seems that in summer there should be very hot). Very unpleasant public bath - outdated, chilling air, and - sic! - plain water (not sulfated) - and it's in the sulfur resort! Hakone area maybe is good for budget locals, but if you want to see Fuji mountain you'd better choose different place. There are no good views of Fuji mountain because it's very far from Hakone. Unlike other Japan, there are ugly buildings, old infrastructure, very overpriced food etc. There are lots of places in Japan with much more beautiful nature.
