The ryokan was very small and run by an old lady. The place is a bit cluttered and has a bad smell. we only booked as no where else available within our budget. Would not book again

The place smells like old, the rooms don't have much in them so they look organize, but the rest of the house has a lot of stuff and looks rather messy. Also, the owner has two dogs, so if you don't like dogs i wouldn't recommend this place for you.
The location was great, a ten minute walk to Kyoto Station where you can easily reach any part of Kyoto. The place is traditional so it is an interesting acommodation where you can sleep in a tatami. You get your own Kimono style pijama!

- but the sad, hard fact is that this place is dirty (including the bathroom), full of stuff (some of it is trash) and it stinks (we would characterize the smell as old, rotting fish);
- the lady that runs this place is incredibly friendly, she even dressed the girls in our group in kimonos for pictures;

One shared toilet between 15 rooms, with no working lock; all three of us had someone walk in on us at least once. Our room had no key, so we were given tweezers with which to jimmy open our door, so none of our stuff was safe The place was filthy and smelt weird Our bedding was stained The owner wasn't there at check in time, so we were greeted by a woman who knew nothing about our booking, and made us sit in some random room for half an hour, with no explanation as to what was going on.
The owner was a nice enough lady, but she clearly should not be running a "ryokan".

Thin mattress, hard pillow, wifi only in foyer, thin walls, noisy guests.
The lady owner was lovely, if she hadn't been so nice it would have been a nightmare.

Actually ended up I didn't stay at the hotel. I arrived around 10pm but there is no receptionist there so I have been waiting for 20mins then I gave up and walked out and try to find hotel to stay, luckily I found one close by. Also the hotel is messy at the front, it's not the same like I saw in website. I was so disappointed !!!!

We arrived to check in on the first night and we're told that the ryokan was full despite the fact we and other potential guests had a booking. We were taken to the owner's "brother's" ryokan for the night. I was initially annoyed, but this turned out to be a blessing in disguise as the replacement ryokan was beautiful. Returned to Daiya the next night and was disappointed to find it in a poor state of cleanliness. There is junk clogging up the hallways, in the garden and bathroom. I was woken by the sound or rats at night and the shower smelt too foul to shower in.
Friendly owner. Good sized room. Convenient location in walking distance to Kyoto station and great bicycle rental shop.
September 18, 2014
there was specific smell and I could not use wi-fi after approximately one hour
I liked the traditional look of the room, although sheets were not very clean-looking

This place seems to have deteriorated since the last review. The place was filthy dirty, the owner appears to be a pack rat and has all manner of clutter everywhere in the hallways with layers of dust on top, bathrooms were dirty, bed was uncomfortable, towels were stained and restroom dirty. At 7,000yen it was extremely over priced when a nice clean room in a nearby hostel (in a better location, with breakfast included, and very clean) was only 6,000yen. DONT DO IT.
Good wi-fi, fair location

The location was good. close and easy to everything. The owner was very nice and helpful
Unfortunately it wasn't real clean. Our sheets weren't clean and the bathrooms weren't clean either. Needs a real good scrum.

The house is so messy and the travellers(especially Japanese) left the door open and smoked,so smell was all around the house even our room which closed the door. That's the weekend night,but the weekday night was fine, just few rooms. More quiet.
The price is fine for Kyoto.

The place smells like rotten rat. Very tiny rooms. Very expensive for its kind of accomodation.
Near the train station and owner is very friendly.
