Eco and Tec Kyoto  

The hotel is situated in a quiet secluded place, but at the same time, a 5-minute walk from the city center and its famous temples and shrines. Staff is very friendly and helpful, despite the scarce knowledge of English. The room is small but cozy. Shops (Lawson and SevenEleven) and numerous cafes are in the range of 300-500 M. Breakfast and dinner is always possible to reheat in the microwave oven on the first floor where one could drink free and very tasty sencha tea or coffee sitting at the large comfortable table. Though Wi-fi was not marked in the list of services, it was caught in a room very well (I used Sony Vaio notebook). I strongly recommend this hotel for modest travelers who want to enjoy the unique charm of ancient Kyoto without hurry and bustle, especially during the “aki momiji” (red maple leaves (November 15 - December 10) or “hanami” (cherry blossom) (March 25 - April 10) seasons.

I would like to recommend hotel’s staff to provide small electric kettles in rooms, because sometimes at night you want to drink a cup of hot tea, but the service at the ground floor runs down to 11-12 pm. Sometimes in a room in the absence of functioning ventilation or open balconies an unpleasant odor was present.

Free green tea and cofee in the loby. Free usage of massage chair in the lobby. Free internet, however very occupied - a single computer in the lobby. Connection by your portable from the room is too complicated and explanation how to connect only in Japanese.

Only one computer for reading e-mail in the lobby is sometimes not enough. Hotel is difficult to find even for Kyoto taxi-drivers. Hovewer a hint: from Higashiyama underground station take exit No. 2 (it is with elevator), when out in the street take to the right, pass traffic lights (semafor) at the bridge (over a small river), continue in the same direction (ignore Youth Hostel if you see it by the way), at next traffic light turn right, and at the first next corner again right, on the end of the short street you already see Eco and Tec Kyoto building.

Good price for the location (next to the subway and to a major bus stop). Good quality of service, helpful staff. Room not too big but comfortable.

Do not expect a luxory hotel: there is no elevator and you have to pay an extra fee if you want the room to be coeaned every day

It is in a quiet area but also close to subway station & bus stop. We can go to anywhere very easily. Besides, Gion and many temples are just nearby. We can walk there within short period of time. People working in the hotel are nice. I will live there if I go to Kyoto next time.

We feel lucky having stayed 4 nights at Eco & Tec hotel in Kyoto. Clean rooms, helpful staff with good English, comfort in community space, close to subway station and bus station-only 2 mins walk, free laundry service is wonderful. Fantistic massage machine available in community space after one-day walk in Kyoto. I will strongly recommend this hotel to travellers with friends, couples. Really value for price choice!

The staff was very helpful, even with limited English. The room was small but adequate. The location is excellent for sightseeing in central Kyoto and the Hirashiyama area. The bus and subway are within a few minutes walk. I felt that it was excellent value for the price. There is a convenience store quite close for buying breakfast items. Coffee and tea were available at all times. We plan to return on a future trip.

One flaw is the lack of elevator. I had to go to 3rd floor. Luggage was carried by hotel staff on arrival but I had to carry down when I left. Sometimes there's no one at the front desk. Price is reasonable. Get the directions to the hotel at Kyoto station information center before heading to the hotel.

great location, nice staff, great massage chair, and comfortable room

I liked the massage chairs.

The beds were terribly hard and I really couldn't sleep in them. After a few days and mounting sleep deprivation I just gave up and went to another hotel, even though I know I wouldn't get a refund.

common room facilities including tea and coffee, internet, comfortable chairs, tourist information. Reception staff spoke good English and were extremely helpful. We found the washing and drying facilities very useful.

The bedroom were pleasant but the best part was the communal facilities downstairs. It was like staying at an Youth Hostel for atmosphere, but with more comfort. Location wise, the place is very close to Gion, and the major temples. Ideal for having something to eat or drink and staggering back!

They had the rental bike hire which made it easy for us to get around the sightseeing places. Also the staff are always helpful.
