The staff were lovely, very helpful. We liked how much room we had with the separate living area and bedroom. Enjoyed the novelty of sleeping on the tatami. It was good to have breakfast included in the room rate. Would definitely stay here again.
Wifi only available in the lobby. It was a fair walk to Akihabara Station so we would usually catch a taxi back to the hotel at night (about 700 yen) - not a big deal for us but maybe useful info for other travellers.
We really enjoyed the classic Japanese room. The location is fantastic! We used public transport to get all over the city. Breakfast was included and was a range of traditional Japanese food as well as enough options for those who prefer some western options.
The shower was not what Australians might be used to, but still usable. Low ceilings and small toilet area will be challenging for those who are greater than 180cm tall. Very minor things though and overall we would highly recommend it
Staff, onsen, hours, location, washing machine/dryer, PC in lobby.
Bit of a walk up the hill - but if you are not prepared to walk in Tokyo ........ Plumbing (water supply) was intermittently on and off. Private bath could do with a bit of maintenance. Wireless was poor on level 2.
A wonderful place to begin to get over our initial jet lag. Great location for electricity town, parks, temples and trains. The room was spot on! Breakfasts were wonderful!
Only negative was the heating in the lobby lounge, where we got wifi, was always a bit hot.
During our stay for 6 nights, there were 4 days having no water to use in the morning. It made a lot inconvenience for us.
Very big and spacious Japanese-style room, separate room for bed and for table/tv, walking distance to several big train stations (Okachimachi, Akihabara, Ochanomizu, Ueno), close by subway station (Yushima), nice breakfast included in the room price.
Located on a hill so you have to climb when going to the hotel (a bit of a bother with suitcases although it's only once), very small toilet (separate from the bathroom), need to walk a bit to get areas with many restaurants. The bed and table are Japanese-style, on the tatami floor, which can be a bit uncomfortable if you're not used to it (personally I found the bed a bit hard, but not that bad compared to some western-style beds I slept on during my trip).
The elder staff members taking good care of their customers.
The building and the rooms are a little bit dark.
- Good breakfast, you can choose to make western style or eastern style or combine both, careful with umeboshi. - Clean 3LDK like room that will make you feel like in japanese apartment - Staff can speak english, some FLUENTLY, a great plus for foreigners
- toilet room is small, huge and tall person will have difficulty in here - wifi is in public area only, so for nerds or someone who likes to chat will have to sit in lobby for long time - the hotel is in a high land so going there is a bit tiring, especially from ochanomizu station
love everything here especially the japanese bathing experience :) gonna definitely come back for next trip:D don't miss this one if u go to Tokyo:)
Nothing at all :)
Loved that it was close to subway stations and a few restaurants, also it's walking distance to a few sight seeing places.
The staff were lovely and the included breakfast was amazingly good.
Great location. Not far from subway lines and quiet. Nice room and bath facilities were nice.
Food service for breakfast was not great but filling. Go early to get warm food.
The hotel is old & outdated. The location of the hotel is quite convenient to move around. The staff are very helpful, kind and courteous.
The facilities are old and outdated. The hair dryer is very dusty and noisy. There is no Wifi service in the hotel rooms, it is available only at the hotel lobby located at 1st floor, not even in the banquet area. The shower tap is so inconvenient, outside the bath tub. Need to climb up the slope, which is very steep before you reach the hotel.
I loved their customary Japanese surroundings, friendly and accommodating staff, the relaxing public bath after a very tiring day.
The daily breakfast was the same since day 1 until day 5. There was no variation. The pillows were also hard.
Real Japanese Ryokan and terrific value. The computer room, tea, coffee provided in comfy common area was absolutely lovely. We used the washing machines, onsen, computers and even the blood pressure monitor upstairs. Breakfasts were provided and catered to a huge range of tastes. Couldn't fault what was provided and the staff were friendly and charming. Would recommend Edoya to everyone and wished we'd found something similar in Kyoto.
Sleeping on the floor but it is a Ryokan!!!
big room, sleeping and sitting room separately, much bigger than most city center hotel, not much choice and just good size and quality breakfast, staff very friendly! walking distance to electric shopping area
a little far from JR station, bathroom a little bit old
Very friendly and helpful staff. Provides a nice buffet breakfast.
Slightly dirty toilet (just slightly). It is located at the top of a hill, so it can be a little tiring if you plan to walk to the train station.
Room style and included breakfast
location a little bit far from station and located on the hill
Quaint rooms, really genuine experience. Staff went out of their way to help, though some staff members spoke no English which got a bit tricky at times. Location is close to subway station. Breakfast included.
Breakfast room is TINY and overcrowded. Futons were quite hard on the floor (no futon bases). Some inconsiderate school students were carousing and swearing loudly throughout the night. Wifi only available in the lobby.
Excellent place to stay! The tatami mat rooms are great and a bit different to a chain or western-style hotel. The futons are very comfortable and you get a lot of space for a hotel room in Tokyo. The Japanese style bath is fantastic after a long day. Breakfast is included and is very tasty with several options. The price is amazing, we've been to Tokyo twice and stayed here both times. Knowing there was such a good value place to stay influenced our choosing to come back. Fantastic for families. Good location near several convenience stores and several different train lines.
very spacious room, nice japanese style. old and friendly staff. nice hot spring.
old equipment in the bathroom， very small toilet.
traditional room, staff efforts to help, male bath, breakfast-ok
all was ok for budget hotel
Nice sized Japanese style rooms with friendly staff. Breakfast is also included in the price. The hotel is a short taxi ride from Keisei Ueno station which connects easily to Narita airport by an express train.
The hotel is quite dated (although this is a part of its charm). The bathrooms on level 6 need cleaning and renovating, and the wall mounted hairdryer thingy in the room needs to be in a museum. The lift closes quite quickly too so be ready for it!
