Hotel Gimmond Kyoto  

The hotel was as described, comfortable and well maintained. We were looking for a location that supported our goal of visiting the many temples and historic sites. The subway was within a block and many of our destinations were either a walk away or a very reasonable cab ride. I live in Japan for a year and anticipate more visitors from the States. The Gimmond will be my 'go to' destination.

I've learned that it is standard practice to charge a higher rate for Saturday nights in Japan, we stayed for 6 nights, this was the only deviation from our original rate agreement. The Italian restaurant in the hotel advertised a 'Happy Hour' that never happened.

Very good location for visiting the city

It was not too expensive for a Kyoto hotel and was fairly close to the animated downtown area. It was very easy to reach from the Kyoto train station and very easy to find, a short walk from the metro stop. Just follow the directions in the photos they have posted. Also lots of convenience stores nearby incl 7/11 across the road where you find an atm that accepts foreign bank cards for withdrawals. Rooms on top floors are very quiet despite main road.

Room was quite shabby and not very tidy. Bathroom is in need of serious updating. There were some tea making facilities but it was difficult to find where to plug in. Hotel is not up to Japanese standards of cleanliness. Also keep in mind it is not on bus routes and closest stops are about 10 mins walk. Best way to explore Kyoto is by bus. I only crashed there for 1 night so it was fine for a last minute not too expensive booking. But if you stay longer and have a but more to spend go elsewhere.

Rooms are larger than most hotels. Liked the full height/length window - making the room bright & cheerful ambiance. Surprised but happy to see an air cleaner being provided & also a 2-in one boiler cum humidifier - more pro-active than many other hotels This is a Non-smoking hotel - superb as no need to worry if will be given a smoking room.

If only they can provide at least 1 English tv channel. Corridors could be brighter

Besides being in Kyoto, which is an incredible city, the best thing about Hotel Gimmond were the wonderful staff. The staff were absolutely amazing. The hotel was also in a great location in the center of town. The rooms were small but very clean and comfortable. I would definitely stay here again.

Our room was quite large, and very comfortable. It was cold outside, but the room was nice and cozy. Very clean, just perfect. Excellent value for money compared to some other hotels on our trip.

Looks like a trip to the Seventies - not renovated in a long while. Anyway, it is comfortable enough

This hotel was fine for a stay in the city: reasonable cost, clean and comfortable and very well located for walking, cycling, tube and bus around the city. Very easy access to the tube for International Conference Centre, and easy walking to the river, Gion and downtown shopping area.

The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and spoke good English. They were very efficient in dealing with our requests and were always able to quickly answer our questions, and give good advice and information. The hotel was spotlessly clean and very comfortable.

I just slept there, but the location is good, the staff is good, too. For exploring tourism in Japan the english lenguage should be better. The best is staff and people, gently and polite
