If there had been tatami mats instead of thin carpet and thicker futons the sleep comfort would have met my needs.
No hassles, everything worked, quiet polite clientele and friendly helpful staff. Good kitchen for simple self made meals.
We had to get to the first floor and the stairs were very steep (as common in old Japanese houses), so it was hard to get our huge suitcases up there. But the owner helped us :) also, the futons weren't very thick and therefore a bit uncomfortable, but it was okay for a night.
The guest house was very clean and the owners were friendly, as well. The room was traditional and the house looked like it was taken very good care of. The location was great as it only takes about 15 minutes to walk to Yasaka Shrine and Gion.
No sheets, no towels, no service; very unlike Japanese accommodation.
warmly Japanese room style with good location, 5 minutes from subway and also in very quietly area.
Small room crammed with unuseable, mismatched Western style furniture, so crowded I couldn't move around. No place to sit except on the futon which was just a very slim piece of foam rubber. I should have gotten a larger room. No Japanese bath, shared fiberglass shower only.
The most fantastic location steps from the willow lined Shirakawa winding river canal. Minutes on foot to Gion, Heian Shrine, Nanzenji, Chion-in and great bus and subway transportation.
reception can only speak Japanese
the location is nice, very convenient the facilities are also very clean though the place is a bit small
-small and poorly insulated rooms, but is quite common in Japan so I consider not so bad
-the owners very friendly and close. very concerned that our stay enjoyable. -very good communication and well located near downtown and tourist attractions.
- Small bedroom
- Really helpful owner - Clean bathroom and toilet and other fascilities - Fantastic location - A real ryocan experience with nice garden
As the house is wooden and is old, it is poor to block noise. It will be better if staying there during weekdays since there will be less other guests. Or you will hear others moving and snoring in the night.
The house owner is very very friendly and helpful. Toilet and bath area is super clean. It's a home-like place. The location is good, 20min-walking to Gion area.
Not much social life, which was fine for us since we were six people, but if you're looking for a congenital environment, this is not that.
The location is perfect, quiet but ten minutes from Gion or the nightlife on the other side of the Kamogawa. Nanzenji was close too. The staff were friendly and helpful. The facilities were immaculate.
the wall between each room is too thin. So, you can hear the noise from the other room quite easy.
Staff are very nice. The hotel is a lovely Japanese style with a few number of rooms. Also, the daughter of the owner can speak fluent english, so it's easy for us to communicate with them.
