Guest House Rakuen  

It was nice sleeping on traditional tatami on the floor and meeting Japanese people, rather than western travellers like ourselves. The place was clean and cheap to stay in.

Staff were unsure of what they were doing. It took them a while to figure out which beds to put us in. Then the following day we got moved to a different room. It's almost impossible to find, even with the Japanese written address (our taxi driver had to go to a police box to ask). It does not say Rakuen on the door. If you don't speak Japanese it's a struggle to be included here. We felt like we were gatecrashing a party. There was never any space to sit and eat, or cook, sometimes a random guest would be asleep next to the table or there was peoples stuff just lying around (it reminded me very much of a student house). It wasn't clear who was staff/ who was a guest even. With a little management this place could do better.

Guest House Rakuen gave me something that more valuable than money. Every guest is treated as friends. I feel like going back to home whenever I went back to the guest house at the night after my activities. Greatly recommended for those who are seeking for unforgettable experiences and of course, cheap and clean place to stay over nights.

Honestly it did spent us quite a long time to located its place. We were pissed off at the time but already forgot about it after half an hour, maybe ;)

If you want to enjoy a real Japanese atmosphere and hospitality then it's a perfect hostel for you. Friendly people and excellent location (Nijo castle almost outside your window) make this place worth visiting. Although they don't speak perfect English, they are keen on practicing English (and other languages) while drinking some local specials. I'll be back in case I'm in Kyoto again!

Well located (close to the Nijo castle, the manga museum and the imperial palace) though a bit of walk from the subway station (10min). Most of the staff do not speak English but are trying their best to communicate and help. Very good value for money !

Not easy to find. Maybe like of tourists information from the staff due to Language barrier

Es como estar en familia! Muy agradables y cercanos. Muy céntrico y económico. Con alquiler de bicis en la misma Guest House! Repetiré la próxima vez que venga!

Si hay algo que pudiera mejorar, sería el nivel de limpieza.

La gentillesse du personnel

Attention, l'hôtel n'a pas d'air conditionné. Cela peut paraître comme inutile, mais à Kyoto en été c'est absolument insupportable. Je ne recommande donc pas cet hôtel durant les mois d'été. Autre problème, le personnel (vraiment adorable) parle très peu anglais. Si comme moi, vous voyagez en backpackers pour rencontrer d'autres voyageurs et vadrouiller avec eux, cet hôtel ne sera pas adapté. Une bonne idée pour quelqu'un qui parle un peu japonais et souhaite pratiquer avec des locaux par contre. Sinon, la salle de bain est facturée 100 yens par utilisation, loin d'être abusif, mais quitte à payer un supplément, il serait agréable qu'elle soit un tout petit peu plus propre...

Me ha encantado el hotel, tenia algo de miedo al principio debido al precio (muy bajo) y al no encontrar opiniones sobre él. Sin embargo, al llegar me encontré con una pequeña casa llevada por unos jovenes absolutamente geniales y amigables, la cena es muy barata (300 yen) y está muy bien, la cocinan ellos mismos. Estando ahí te sientes como en una familia (especialmente si vas solo) y el personal del staff esta mas cerca de ser tu amigo que de ser un "profesional". Para mí ha sido sencillamente maravilloso, he hecho muchos amigos ahí. Lo recomiendo especialmente a los que decidan viajar solos a Japón y a los jóvenes.

La unica posible pega son las habitaciones compartidas, al llegar tuve que estar una noche con una familia alemana y uno de ellos roncaba muchísimo (aunque todos eran muy amables). Aunque tuve la suerte de estar el resto del tiempo con gente silenciosa y muy amigable.

Une guest house tres cool tres accueillante, geree par des jeunes et ou l'on peu croiser quelques bourlingueurs de passage de tout age et de toute nationalite. Les dortoirs sont relativement vetustes mais ils sont neanmoins a un excellent rapport qualite/prix accessoirement on est a 300m du palais imperial et aussi pres du chateau de nijo bref cool

It is a Japanese style hotel, a must-to-stay if you want to enjoy Japanese life.

In August Japan is like hell with the hot weather and high-humidity. And this hotel does not have air conditioner.

The owner of the guest house and the staff there are both very friendly and it was nice to talk to them during my stay. It is definitely a good place to stay if you want to have some Japanese family house experience and to meet people (you'll have a lovely evening with locals and foreigners sitting together to chat, eat and drink).

In winter, there is no heater in the room and it was very cold when sleeping, even with quilt and blanket on. All those stayed in my room felt the same and what we could do was to wear our thick clothes during sleep...it was not really comfortable and should be improved.

The location was really good (right near the Nijo-jo and the subway), and the people there were friendly even if their English wasn`t perfect. There was dinner available when I was there for ¥300 - rice, chicken and veg one night, boiled/mashed/fried potatoes, omlette and mince. Simple but tasty stuff. Check in and out was easy and flexible (after finding it, there`t not a great signage, but it`s opposite the small park area). I was able to pay throughout my stay as I`d not been able to find a JP bank ATM on my way in. The rooms are large and sleep many people.

The futons aren`t the most comfortable thing in the world, but for ¥2000 I don`t think you can complain. There is noise well into the evening, and as it`s a dorm if you go to bed early you may be disturbed by others going to bed later.

Smoking area is right outside the women's room, so if you don't want to smell smoke, you have to close the window in the un-air conditioned room. Booking.com indicates that you need to pay for sheets and use of bathroom, which is not the case. You are only requested to pay to use the shower.

personalen sov kl11 på dagen och vakna inte utav upprepade "godmorgon" eller av ringklockan detta var pga hårt festande kvällen innan. Det fanns få gäster men personalen var pratsamma men väsnades till sent på natten genom kortspel och drickande. jag är en erfaren backpacker men rakuen ligger definitivt på delad bottenplats
