Urban ryokan, close to the station and to the river on the other side. From the station there is a train to all the main activities at the area, so the location is great. The staff was very kind and helpful. The onsen is a very nice experience, especially for tourists. The cuisine is not for everyone, although it is very special and very well made. You should be preperd for the taste of the japanese cuisine.

Service from the chambermaid serving breakfast and preparing beds was a pleasurable experience. They had no English but made us feel comfortable and welcomed. Lack of comfort. Difficult to find as sign only in Japanese and not clearly seen from street. Rooms tired.

I certainly recommend this wonderful hotel. Genuine ryokan feel, professional spa services, lovely setting just beside the river and perfect location a few meters away from the Hakone-Yumoto station (from where you arrive from Tokyo and also catch the local train for the famous round trip of Hakone). The staff here are professional, courteous and friendly. Especially, I would like to thank Emiko and her male aide for their fantastic service!

Beautiful roykan, staff were exceptional. The onsen was lovely! We did the private one and also used the shared baths. Once we learnt the Japanese way to bath we really enjoyed it! The hotel is set right against the river and has a lovely view and nice sounds of water. The room was large for Japanese standards. The staff laid out our bed and night and put it away again in the morning, The breakfast was very Japanese and a little bit too fishy for our taste, but very authentic and beautifully laid out on the table in our room in the morning. The stay was a highlight of our trip and the experience of a roykan with onsen is a definate must for anyone visiting Japan! The hotel name is in Japanese. We walked right past it and didn't find it until we asked a local person. We really enjoyed sleeping on the futon mattresses on the tatami mats, however they are quite hard and the rice pillows were uncomfortable.

Adjacent to the train station for transfer to Odawara Station. Close to local shops and restaurants. Spa is relaxing and nicely set-out. Staff very friendly. We tried the traditional Japanese breakfast which was very nice. Free wifi internet in the room. It was great Ryokan experience.

nice room, good location near a train station The staff is very correct, but not friendly. The common feeling is that we (foreigners) are very unwelcome in this place. Everything in Japanese except of warnings in the places, where our incomprehension of local traditions can interfere in other (“wanted”) guests' enjoyment of the place. The meals are reach and probably delicious, but if you are not an expert in Japanese traditional food – don’t expect any explanation or help. The lady that served the dinner was lovely, in fun of our inability to manage such simple thing as eating, but w/o any English or some direction from management to help&explan, also there were no something written as we sow in other places - so you just don't understand what you eat and how to eat. The privet onsen was an "open-air" one, the only time that we could get was 11 pm (probably - again -foreigners are unwelcome as don't known how to use). Nobody used the onsen this evening, as we understood later - because the weather: rain + strong wind = a kind of suicide to use it, nobody worn us and, of course, for 5 min of very unpleasant experience we paid a full cost. The bottom line – if you want to enjoy a traditional ryokan experience (and I strongly recommend this) – just choose another place

The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Front desk staff could speak English very well. Location could not be any more convenient-- just 3 minutes walk away from Hakone-yumoto station. Shops are close by. Open-air onsens available for private use upon reservation and are superb. Everything was looked after in detail. Wifi available everywhere in ryokan. Very homely feeling. Wii available in lobby. Fantastic for family, small groups or couples. The lift was old and a bit slow, but that is hardly an issue at all.

The hotel has no English name so if you are walking there I suggest you ask the shop around there. It is actually opposite the train station behind the shop lot. All in Chinese and only one staff can speak English.

Attention to detail that the hotel staff have. It was the first hotel where my booking request for a higher floor was actually taken into consideration, although there was none available, they apologized for it. Still, big plus. Good japanese style room although simple in appearance.. Easy access from train station even with luggage. Great shared indoor onsen (open 24h). Reasonably priced open air private onsen (2000 yen/50 minutes). Yakiniko restaurant just next to hotel. Hotel gives an authentic japanese experience. Breakfast in the room was simple and well under the expectation we had after reading comments here in booking and the room rate paid. Private onsen was too hot to the point we could only stay inside for short periods. Tv in the room is lcd but rather small. The hotel is supposed to have a club but it was closed.

It really was just 2-3 minutes easy walk to/from the train station, a few places to eat, etc. The room was clean and spacious, the wifi worked nicely and the reception staff spoke reasonable English. I slept well on the night and enjoyed my stay. Some small misunderstanding led to them trying to deliver me breakfast even though I'd cancelled it the night before. Not a big deal. (Cancelled since it's Japanese style and I can't eat fish/seafood - it may well have been a perfectly fine breakfast for anybody who can!)

Great location on river but near train station, large rooms, friendly and helpful staff. Very good traditional Japanese breakfast was a little intimidating but I ate almost all of it. Staff have limited English but this was not a big issue at all.

I really loved the hospitality and comfort. The staff were really great. I loved our room. We were able to use the hotel facilities like the private bath and massage service. There wasn't a restaurant at the hotel but the staff were really helpful in directing us to a lovely restaurant two minutes walk away. It was the best meal I have ever had.
