Fabulous,

“ The hostess was extremely nice and welcoming. The inn was perfectly located and a very nice building. It was nice to experience a traditional stay instead of another modern hotel on the trip, especially in Kyoto. The hostess also went out of her way to help us find things and get us tickets for an event. ”

Small, nice and cozy. The woman that runs the inn was extremely nice. She spoke good english and had map with extra hand written instructions on for us ready when we arrived. Only three rooms, so the bathroom sharing was no problem. Loved it!

Good location, clean place, friendly owner. If you stay two nights or more, they won't change your towels or clean your room.

Friendly owner, who spoke good english, and took time to give us tips. The location was also good and close to attractions and transport. I liked the water, hot and cold, downstairs and the free wifi. The house is extremely noise sensitive: the walls and windows let through every sound and you can hear you fellow guests whenever they walk on the stairs, open the door, talk, etc. The bathrooms are downstairs, all but one bedroom involve going up, down staircases. I would recommend this place to younger people, because it is a very basic setup.

Staff unbelievably helpful, rooms very spacious and communal living area a nice addition. wifi extremely good, washing facilities good. one of the biggest temples in Kyoto 2mins up the road. Walking into central Kyoto very possible and great shops and restaurants not too far away. Walls are thin, but that is to be expected. We had no problems with other guests but if they were loud or very early risers you may be slightly disturbed, but that is part of the charm.

The owner, Eimi, is very nice, and very helpful. The room was clean and everything was ok with it. The location is excellent, only a few minutes from the Kyomizu Dera, Sanjusangendo, and Myoujin temples, and about 15 minutes walk from Gion area.

Eimi, the woman who runs the ryokan, is great. She will receive you with a big smile and will be willing to help you and tell you her tips at every moment. The atmosphere is warm and friendly. The room is comfortable and has space and there is a common room with free tea, hot and cold water, coffee, tv... The design of the house is very authentic, we had the feeling of being at a Japanese home, it was really nice!!! As a traditional home, the walls are thin and you can listen to your neighbours, but I guess it happens in most of ryokans... And as in most of city-ryokans, the price is a little bit high regarding the facilities of the room (like not having a private bathroom).

Eimi, the owner was absolutely AMAZING!! She was so very friendly and went out of her way to give me advice about Kyoto including where to shop and what time is best to visit temples. She knew I was missing my dog and let me play with her sweet dog. She was just so friendly and welcoming and really made my stay in Kyoto. Hanakiya was recommended to me by a friend and Id gladly recommend it to others. Fabulous!!

Very kind and helpful hostess (good english-speaking) . Good location. Common space available (with computer, tea, microwave, etc.). The hostess can do laundry for 500 yen. Hard to find. Be sure to have a good map with you. Taxi drivers don't know the place. Bad sound-proofing (paper-made windows). Wrong information on booking.com: no credit card accepted!

We booked 2 rooms for 4 people. We were in a nice typical ryokan (tatamis on the floor, no shoes inside the house, wood structure, etc), well located near bus stop, very close to Kiyomizu-dera shrine. The building itself is in a small street, with no cars and no invasion by people during the day. The landlady is very helpful, always cheerful and always here if there is any problem. She speaks fluent english (thank you !!) and give a lot of information, good adresses, advices on sites,... Laundry service is available for 500 yens. The surrounding of the house could be a bit noisy at night for light sleepers, due to the traditionnal japanese building (thin windows / wood), but not enough to not enjoy the stay.

The manager eimi is lovely and provided all the info you need.good location with short bus ride from station and same to gion where you could also walk for 20mins.. Is quite basic in term of facilities but wifi is everywhere..we stayed at the annex which is next to a temple therefore bells ringing at 6am and the gardener starts working at 730am - so please bring your earplugs ;) Was definitely a lovely stay to recommend. The place was not as spotted as I expected ...not very sofisticated in the quality of the facilities provided above all toiletteries.

The Hanakiya annex was an authentic Japanese machiya building. Very near Kiyomizudera entrance street but since it was a block off that street was unexpectedly quiet. It was very clean with new towels and yukata daily. Within walking distance to Pontecho and the good "river facing" eateries. We were very impressed with the courtesy and quiet of the other guests and Amie, the hostess, was helpful in answering questions. We enjoyed the Bamboo Room with its easy access to baths, sinks and tiolets. We would happily stay there again.

Probably the best accommodation everyone can find with the price it offers. The ryokan owner is very kind, room very big and tidy, owner wash the clothes with a fee just 500 yen, common room got internet and traveling books, etc. Internet wasnt working on the last 2 days.
