Room cleaning crew was sloppy

Friendly and patient staff. We arrived 45 mins before the check-in time at the station and we were ready to wait for the pick-up but they cheerfully drove over to pick us up. The dinner we had was unforgettable. Delicious and lovingly prepared. They had nice onsen baths as well, overlooking Takayama city.

We liked everything.

We were charge twice being more than the correct rate, and are having trouble getting a refund.

Amazing, Takayama is beautiful but staying at a place like this really makes the difference. Felt like we were really experiencing Japanese hospitality. The shuttle was really helpful, the town is a short walk away, nice walks to temples near by and the onsen in the hotel is awesome.

The room is very clean with traditional Ryokan style. Hotel staff is friendly though can't speak English well. Hotel is situated on hill with nice view. Recommend Japanese traditional hotel breakfast in morning.

Price is too high, not valued for money

We loved our room, as it had a lovely view, comfortable futons, and a lot of space..beautiful ofuro...

Loved it. I wanted to spend at least one night at a more traditional ryokan-type place, and this was great. Very comfortable, but still affordable. The breakfast was delicious! I'd definitely recommend it if you like japanese food - lots of tasty dishes, well prepared and presented. The staff is very welcoming and professional. They don't speak a lot of english, but they are used to non-japanese speaking guests and get by fine. Plus there is some written information in English if you need it. I didn't have a chance to check out the public baths, but the room bath is very nice. If I go back to Takayama, I'd certainly stay again.

Guests should be aware that the hotel is up a hill. There is a great view, and it's not a difficult walk normally. But if you have bigger luggage than you should probably call them when you arrive and get the free shuttle up.

Very friendly staff. Great breakfasts. Liked having the onsen available. Shuttle is very convenient. Make sure you take the short cut to and from town - a 10 minute walk becomes a 2 minute walk.

The hotel and rooms are a bit dated. This didn't impact our stay tremendously but the hotel is showing its wear and tear. Sleeping on tatami mats also isn't the most comfortable.

Amazing place, our best hotel in Japan. Absolutely no complains. The uphill is literally 2 min walk, can't believe some people complain about it. Even the train station is only 15 min walk. Old town is 5 min walk

Nice location, not too close or too far to the city. Quiet neighborhood, on a small hill overlooking the city. Cheap.

The ventilation of the air in the hotel, the food smell all over he place. You have to open your room door quickly then close to avoid the food spell into the room.

Amazing onsen, we loved them and used all the time. Superb location, just 5 mins to the old town and yet its elevation means a view over the city. Lovely breakfast beautifully presented, well worth it! Our first ryokan experience and t was great,worth the extra money for location, baths and breakfast. Shuttle will collect at station after 3pm and drop you before 10am, just call when you arrive Bus to Kanazawa via Shirawakawa-go is well worth it, great side trip and very easy t do with luggage etc, big lockers at the bus station there and houses park is just next door

Its a small city so staying anywhere is easy to see everything. We didn't go full board because of price but ended up paying same or more to eat Hida beef in town so is worth considering this option if that's your plan - beef very pricey everywhere!

An opportunity to experience a Japanese-style hotel.

Very hard to sit on the floor - we were too old to sit crossed-legged or kneel comfortably on the cushion supplied at the breakfast table.

The cypress tub, bedding, breakfast and dinner were all great. Only one person spoke English but the rest of the staff were very accommodating.

The only downfall was the walk up the hill to get to the hotel.

The view across Takayama. You get a feeling of luxury. Nice traditional room. Small onsen on site. Free shuttle bus to the station.

Temperature of the two baths was extremely high.

Staff is Nice and willing to service even though someone cann't speak english.Room is very nice and very clean. Breakfast set is good taste and plentiful. Although it locate on hill and a bit far away from station, there's free shuttle bus service.

Staff were very friendly, welcoming and helpful .. they spoke very good English and they gave us a very good introduction to the Ryokan. Breakfast is traditional Japanese and it is beautifully presented and totally delicious. Would highly recommend Hidatakayama Futarishizka Hakuun for a traditional Japanese experience.

The hotel is clean and comfortable and the location is very convenient.

There are no non-smoking rooms. Our room smelt of smoke at first, but after we left the windows open for a few hours the smell dissipated.

Beautiful environment. Excellent view. All interesting spots on walking distance.

I stayed in Japanese room, which is clean and quite comfortable. A small bacony, sitting area, toilet and bathroom, everything is fit in one place. The hotel is sit on the hill overlooking Takayama town. The touristy Takayama's old town, souvenir shops and restaurants are right at the foot of the hill. All you need is an exercise. The hotel has its own onsen, spacious and very clean. Staff are friendly and speak very good English. Though the hotel is far from Takayama train station, the hotel provides shuttle van during check-in and check-out time. Wi-fi is free.

Check-in and check-out time is a little disappointed.

The hot spring bathing facilities are very clean and good. Good view from the windows especially when the hotel is located far top. Had a very relaxing time there! Room is very spacious and well tidied. Staff was very helpful and friendly. The guy at the counter speaks good English too making everything smooth and easy. Hotel is some walking distance away from the town centre but the journey is not too long as it was a pleasure walking in this comfy little old town.

This was our first stay in a ryokan. We were dubious about the public bath but loved this and found it really relaxing after a day of walking. Step across the road and there are walking tracks through the forest and it was nice to get away. The staff were very helpful. There is a courtesy bus and staff will drop you at the station in the morning. It was nice to have a room with a table and chairs to sit at for a change and we had a lovely view over Takyama. It was very clean and well maintained.

The pick up from the station is only after 3.00 p.m. so we had to find our own way there. It is quite a walk down a hill into town and a big walk back up the hill on the way back. Restaurants are back down near the station which is quite a way. If you need a supermarket this is on the other side of the railway line and it's a long walk. You need to think about whether or want to sleep on a futon on the floor - it was quite hard and a little uncomfortable. We arrived back to the room just after midday and the staff were ready to clean our room so we were virtually shooed out and sent on our way!

Very comfortable room, spacious in Japanese standard. Nice bathroom with wooden tub.

A bit away from the town center, good if you drive. The hotel offers pick up and drop off at the station though.

It gave you a real taste of the ryokan experience, the food was beautiful and plentiful, the baths room was lovely, really nice staff.
