location!very nice staff!
Friendly stuff, comfortable bed, clean, good kitchen for cooking, fast internet. Suitable for longer stays.
Friendly staff, nice common room
Rooms for shower and restroom are outside (cold in winter)
Japanese style living room.
Upper dorm beds are inconvenience. If you come with your luggage, you may have trouble to move your luggage up and down.
Very friendly and welcoming staff! Traditional Japanese old house offers vintage atmosphere. Bus stops and subway station within walking distance.
The quilts seemed to be used for quite a long time. It would be better if they can replace the quilts and bed sheets with new ones.
I stayed one night. But I feel I had lived in that house when i was there. Comfortable. Location is not bad.
Bath was cold, but not bad
Good service. Very welcoming. Well deserved by bus.
central, cheap has a good bar round the corner
tiny kitchen and lounge facilities the big problem was other dorm mates, seem to think packing/unpacking at 2300hrs is ok staff happy to check people in at 2300hrs which then leads to above, very inconsiderate
Traditional house, spacious tatami room with futon, staff very friendly and helpful. There is a small kitchen with free tea and coffee and a nice common room. If you have some endurance and time you can walk to most sights from this central location.
The kitchen is really small and there is only one fridge for all guests.
-Nice staff -Nice Location -pretty old style house -Nice Garden -comfi rooms
-small Stars Not easy with more than one bag
Very friendly place. Cheap beer vouchers.
That I couldn't stay there longer.
Friendly helpful staff, good atmosphere, great location close to places of interest with bike hire available for the further out destinations.
Kitchen is a galley kitchen separating the main dorm from the lounge area - thus a lot of traffic while cooking! (cant be helped)
good location, traditional Japanese style, quiet environment, very clean and neat.
Very friendly girl in reception, recognizing everyone be name, great to chat with Computer available in common area Nice little garden Good location
It's quite cold. It's warm in the room (dormitory), but to go to toilet or bathroom you need to go through garden which is not best option when cold outside
Very helpful and friendly staff, great atmosphere and great value. Made me wish I had stayed longer.
Staff; Ikeiko (I think was her name) was so very friendly and her Enhlish was outstanding. The location was very convenient to buses and Nijo Castle. Wi-if was excellent and worked in the bedroom as well as the common area. Shampoo, body soap, cotton swabs, and hand soap and hand towels provided. Huge lock box, big enough for luggage, built into each bunk. Music playing in the common area.
Sleeping area on the main floor too small for 7 or 8 beds; the air got got very stagnant. My bunk creaked so I felt like I couldn't move for fear of waking the others.
Location - 5 minutes from nijo castle, staff, Wi-Fi
Only one toilet available for the dorm.
Location is close to Nijo Castle and bus stop. Staff is very friendly. Cheap bikes at 500¥ per day. Everything was very clean.
Problem with lock on our room door. Our window was right above the smoking area. Mattress and blankets are in need of replacement. Little sound proofing.
Nice place and if you are looking for something more traditional and for short time it should be enough. We highly recommend the mundo bar-ask the staff about it.
We had a big problem to find this place, almost no signs
Cute Japanese style building. Small courtyard outside. Good bathroom and kitchen facilities. Power plug for every dorm bed.
This is a positive as well as a negative, but I found that the curtains available for each bed create your own space which is great, but it meant that it was harder to meet people because everyone would just go to their beds and close the curtain.
The staff speaks perfect English (which is fairly rare found in Japan). Plenty of local restaurants nearby. Public bath nearby with super nice owner. The hostel itself is very Japanese: compact yet super cozy. The dorm is surprisingly made of semi-private wooden cabins which provides privacy. I went to none of the tourist attractions during the 3-day stay because I never had slept so well until staying there! I'm so glad that I had such a chance to stay in a real Japanese house with such coziness and price!
It is a bit tricky to find
Right across from Nijo Castle, in a central location close to public transit. It's a good hub location for exploration. The staff are friendly and helpful, and there is a good vibe with the guests as well.
It's not close to the nightlife, if that is what you are looking for; you will either be taking some long walks or some taxis, since public transit shuts down early. The same management as the hostel does maintain a friendly bar close by, which is your best bet in the area. Ask for a discount coupon...
It Would be good to have a bigger sign it was really hard to find the place :)
Clean rooms, toilet and showers, just across the street from Nijojo Castle, and the beds were plenty big to get a good night's sleep. The staff were súper friendly too!
Their staffs are so nice. You can feel confortable here, just do what you want and have a good rest. This place is one of reason that I love Kyoto. So, just book here.
