Historic, beautiful location. Sound of the river was soothing for sleep. While in-room access to the mineral spring bath was quaint, the design was lacking. Easy access to the train and bus stop to/from both Hakone-Yumote and Odawara.

No dinner allowed because we did not call 24 hours in advance. thought we were screwed with having to eat ramen from a machine but luckily we walked into town towards the 7-11 and found a small cafe where the owner was incredibly hospitable. There was a GIANT flying cockroach in the room, so the idea of sleeping on the floor was less romantic. We had dietary restrictions (seafood allergy) and although we informed them at check-in, we were told that they could not accommodate us for breakfast. For $200 a night, I would have expected a little better.

    Japanese traditional style

it's all nature around, so insects come in your room without problems... mosquitos feasted..

Good taste of Japanese culture. Spa in room very relaxing. River outside room noisy but beautiful.

Very old building. Too far from food outlets when dinner is not part of the package. Staff reluctant to let us even pay extra for dinner.

Friendly staff. Authentic Japanese Ryokan. Bar serving western food. Was exactly as advertised.

Tattoos not welcome in public baths. Rooms are starting to look a bit dated.
