Very friendly and helpful staff, comfortable rooms - though slightly cold - and great onsen. Great location between the railway station and the start of the coastal hiking trail.
I have stayed in hotels and hostels around Asia and Japan, and this place was easily one of the best I stayed in, especially in this price range. The beds were very comfortable, the shared bath was gorgeous, and the owner was one of the nicest people. The Inn was a bit empty do he upgraded our room to one with a TV, and he gave us great food recommendations and information about the area and things to do. There's a selection of movies you can choose from for free to watch in your room, which is great when you just want to relax after a long day of hiking or other tourist activities. It's not a far walk from the train station, maybe ten minutes, which will you take you quickly up to the Jogasaki Kaigan area or down to Shimoda beach in about 30 minutes. Plus there's plenty to do right down the street from the inn, with the teddy bear museum and all that! All in all, this is a great hotel. The owner was so nice and kind, as was his son (I think his son?), and the hotel itself was very clean and extremely comfortable. I highly recommend it if you're in this area.
Nothing to dislike!
Very friendly, helpful and great place with karaoke and onsen baths. Very English friendly.
We had a nice stay at Jemsty Inn. It is small but clean and cozy. The owner Mr. Hattori is very nice and was of great assistance for the planning of our day trips. Convenient location. 10 min. by car to Jogasaki cliffs, 20 min. to Orange Beach, 45 min. to Shirahama Beach.
The shared bathing area (2 rooms) is very small. Can only be used by one person at a time, so you have to wait for your turn.
Mac-san, the owner was really helpful and friendly. He showed us some great places to see locally (our kids loved the Okodo Koyodo, rock-pools for swimming in), as well as recommending some good restaurants and coming with me to sort out car rental, he even gave us a lift back to the stage. Mac's English is excellent, he lived in Texas for 6 years. The guesthouse is a bit like a Ryokan, with nice Onsen baths, but the good thing for us was sleeping in western beds! Of course the rooms are compact, this is Japan, but we've stayed in far smaller. Izu-Kogen is a nice little village, with enough different restaurants and easily accessible to the rest of Izu by train, bus or car.
Mac the owner was really friendly and available to help us planning and organizing our stay. Izu kogen is the perfect place between major attractions like shimoda, izu, Ito...
