Kyoto Hotel Okura  

Very well staffed from bell boys to concierge to front desk to room service. All of them spoke fairly good English, not to mention very courteous, appearing all happy and good looking too! They could not offer me enough help ranging from wheeling my luggages to my room, offering travelling tips to tourist sites, picking up my room key before I step out of the hotel, where to get better currency exchange rates, and booking for an emergency dental appointment! Spacious bathroom with glass shower corner and a huge bathtub. Bathroom amenties are impressive with good quality foldable hair brushes, razors, toothbrushes, herbal bath salts, shower caps, and bath robes). The convenience of having a safety box was a big plus for me. Every Sunday, there is a garage sale at the city hall across from the hotel. 5 shopping districts are within walking distance. Evey month of 12 day the Germany bakery shop at basement 2 offers 20% discount.

For the price paid, I wished they would offered free shuttle ride to and from Kyoto station.

I am unable to say one negative thing about the hotel. If I am really pushed then perhaps the restaurants are a bit expensive but then the quality is excellent. Value for money, the Italian restaurant is unbeatable.

For today's standard, the interior of the hotel needs to be updated..specially the bathroom!

The location of the Okura was wonderful, and we could walk to many places. Although the large avenues were fairly typical of cities anywhere, the small streets in the area were full of older buildings, shops, artisans, coffee shops, etc. The staff was very attentive and courteous. After a long day of sightseeing, it was very relaxing to return to the hotel.

The hotel was very comfortable. We were upgraded to a deluxe room at no additional cost, which was a pleasant surprise. The location is excellent, a short taxi drive from most popular sites, and walking distance from shopping.

Staff were very friendly and helpful. It made for a ver pleasant and relaxing vacation.
