Kyoto is much easier to negotiate for non Japanese speaking people e.g. elderly/ not good with IT/ low mobility/ families with small children visitors. It could be the base stay from where all short overnight or day trips could be made to south western Japan. locals are much more helpful and the local signage and travelling is much better than Tokyo.

You can never find another place like Kyoto.
You can never find another place like Kyoto. The beautiful ancient architecture mixing with modern equipments. Sakura tree surrounded by buildings. As one of the most ancient cities in Japan, Kyoto is showing both its beauty and ambitious to people. Simply waking in the city at the dawn is enjoyful.
Getting around Kyoto is easy if you have a ICOCA - spells like "go with me" in Japanese. However, eating in Kyoto (or almost any other city in Japan) is not easy if you don't know how to make a reservation, so at least have a plan for your food.

Kyoto is a must visit for any first trip to Japan - it's Japan's historical capital that houses all the shrines and temples you could ever wish to see. The popular ones I visited were Kiyomizudera Temple which I went to at 6:30 am to miss the crowds and it was great, and Fushimi Inari Shrine (the one with the red tori gates) which if you manage to go early to miss the crowds, would be very much recommended. We also visited the Monkey Park in Arashiyama, saw the cherry blossoms at Kawazu Zakura, Fushimi Castle and had fluffy pancakes at Elk and Panel Cafe. Overall, Kyoto is a very touristy place, so try the places that are more obscure (like the pancake place Elk had no queue with amazing fluffy pancakes, but Panel always has a VERY long queue, also Fushimi castle is gorgeous but not crowded at all!).

We had a week to visit Japan.
We had a week to visit Japan. Most of our time was in Kyoto, and we could have stayed much longer. Kyoto offers a balance of natural beauty, historical and cultural significance, dining options and access to transportation. Furthermore, it felt like we got more value in Kyoto compared to Tokyo and Osaka.

Incredible sightseeing and shopping.
Incredible sightseeing and shopping. Beautiful town to stroll around. The train station is spectacular and a must to visit. Kiyomizudera and the shopping street to access should also be on your list. The only downside was how busy everywhere was. But in Sakura season its to be expected I suppose.
Excellent location and very comfortable hotel. Located 20 mins from Kyoto station and a short walk to the main shopping area and the older part of town across the river. Room was adequate for space and comfort. Breakfast…of all the places we stayed had the best breakfast by a large margin. Top restaurant grade food preparation and presentation. It was outstanding.
Also, they could loan you bikes to ride around the city. I would definitely stay here again.
Amazing stay in Kyoto - best accommodation during our Japan trip!!! Room is comfortable and clean - no view though but this didn’t bother us as we were out most of the day. The staff were so amazing and caring and breakfast did have great selection. Drinks in the evening were a bonus. Hotel is next door to subway line and about 10-15min walk to the main station. There are shops and restaurants on the way. We would definitely stay here again.
Everything. This hotel was perfect and the best hotel I’ve stayed in in Japan. Hotel itself is gorgeous and very very clean. Hotel staff is very very friendly, nice and respectful. Tons of amenities provided, facilities are great (this is the first hotel I’ve stayed where they provided baskets for laundry). Do yourself a favour and stay here if you’re in Kyoto and looking for a place in the city centre close to Kyoto station.
One of the best guesthouse I had stayed in Japan!Everything was perfect. It’s hidden in a very quiet neighborhood but location is really good, because it’s close to subway station, konbini and near Gion.
You can feel the ryokan vibe when it comes to furniture and design. Very comfortable and big beds. Nice balcony. Clean rooms, bathrooms, kitchen. Wi-if works perfectly. You can also make a laundry for free! Affordable price.
The location — it was in walking distance to all of Gion and the north and south Higashiyama temples as well as easy connect to subways/train. The staff — simply kind and splendid. The room — the best bed in a very comfortable room. The restaurant— lovely breakfast and quality meals at lunch and dinner that I would have chosen even if I had not been staying at the hotel. It is the perfect boutique hotel. I loved it.
The staff smile and help was heartwarming.
Always ready and will do they're best to help.
Inclouding cleaning staff, super polite and concederate.
The location is perfect, train to Osaka and out of Kyoto ia next to the hotel, train for Arashiyama right infront of it. And Kyoto which uses a lot of bus, the station near the hotel makes it feel like central station, you can get anywhere and back very easy.
Room was great as it was just the right size for a couple and the best part was we had a washing machine. The room was somewhat traditional but a must during your stay to Japan. Beds a little hard. Bathroom a little small but fine for 3 nights. It was boutique style. Location was within walking distance to Gion district & Nishiki Markets. Right near subway station and plenty of eateries.
This was a fantastic hotel, one of the best I’ve stayed in. The foyer and rooms are beautiful. The room was big by Japanese standards. The staff were very accommodating, friendly and spoke multiple languages, including English.
The location was perfect, within minutes from the train station, next door to a shopping mall with great restaurants and a block away from a beautiful temple.
Loved the customer service! Location was perfect for us: at walking distance from train station (15min), from city center (20min), from old town (30min). There is also underground stops at just 5 and 10min walk from the hotel. Although the best thing was the breakfast! It wasn't extensive but this made it easy and quick to grab and was actually very complete, with great quality food
The hotel is quite new, amenities are awesome. Space is enough for 3 ppl with 2 fully opened suitcases.
The location is within adequate walking distance (~10 mins) from Kyoto station.
Staff are super friendly and are the best English speakers I've encountered in the 7-day trip.
Everything was amazing. The whole hotel looks new and clean. Breakfast had good choices and everything we tried were delicious. Staff can speak english. Bathroom was the best I have seen in a hotel. Strategic location since the subway station is literally just beside the hotel.
Hotel staff were very helpful and try their best to give good services. But most likely hotels in Japan, most of the time they didn't speak english very well.. Also the distance between this accomodation and the train station is like 6 min walking distance.
Probably one of the best hotels I’ve stayed at. It’s right across Kyoto Station, the room I got has great space. The bed is comfortable and the bathroom is clean. The breakfast was generally okay though I wish they would put allergy labels on them.
Nicest hotel we've ever stayed in and that's saying quite a lot. Exceptional service and best location in the city if you're exploring Kyoto. Directly in the train/bus station with over 50 restaurants plus a mall underneath with huge food court.
staff was very polite and the hotel was super clean! definitely the best stay we had while in Japan! would stay here all of the time if I could. a short walk to the station and to the Main Street where all of the shops and stores are.
The best location and convenient to travel around Kyoto and not to be crowed as the hotel at Kyoto station.I love this hotel. 7-11 is very close to the hotel.
There are ice maker and microwave service as well.
Location. View from rooms. Spacious rooms. Very comfortable. Great service and staff. The location is the best. Right at the train station, close to restaurants and shopping malls. Temples, etc. Excellent hotel
We really liked the location of this hotel (near enough to Kyoto station but away from the bustle) and the value for money was one of the best we could find to visit the city.
Brilliant stay. The best hostel we have ever been to. It felt like a 5 star hotel. Communal kitchen was very clean and well stocked. The whole hotel was very well designed.
