I can't think of a complaint.
The onsen was so beautiful, the staff were incredibly sweet, the authentic food was beautifully arranged, and the room was peaceful and comfortable.

Unfortunately there wasnt any convenience stall in the area. Best get whatever needed before heading over.
The location of the onsen was great. Nice scenery in the onsen.

- the futton (not used to it, I guess)
- the inside and outside Onsen - the dinner and breakfeast included and 100% Japanese - the kindness of the staff and the small number of rooms (5) - the surrounding so quite and especially the nice and inspiring walk to the Kurama temple

Hot tub, location. Staff were very good.

The location is about an hour from central Kyoto by train and bus. There isn't a direct train either, so if you have baggage, it would be best to take the taxi half way.
The outdoor onsen has a beautiful view of the mountains.

it was so lovely. they were accommodating since we were running late. the bathhouses were so relaxing and food was amazing. it was so peaceful and a great way to end our trip.

It would be great to have 'please speak quietly' signs in the Onsen. One of the days we bathed there other visitors were very noisy and it disturbed the relaxing atmosphere.
The staff were friendly, kind, accomodating and tried their best to speak English. The room was clean and the futon beds comfortable. We found the attentive and cheerful service most pleasing and liked the little gifts! The Onsen and local environment is gorgeous and it is an ideal place for walking and exploring.

Internet didn't work
We honestly booked as Kyoto was very full but we're attracted by the onsen. The train ride out there is scenic and nice train, but it really is 30 mins and runs every 20 mins Hotel is only 4 rooms - the main point is the onsen which many people come to use in the day only. As a result it has a bit of a public gym atmosphere - it is not covert romantic but actually quite charming and authentic. Staff were extremely friendly, helpful and decent English. Outdoor onsen are large and pleasant. We only used after 8pm (closes at 9) and 7.30am when there were 2-3 people only. It may be more crowded in the day but the baths are very large.

milk was sold out
1. we love japanese food, and the dinner was perfect! we ordered an extra set of vegetable tempura (so delicious) even though we were full :) 2. an old lady at the reception was very helpful snd polite ;) 3. free shuttle bus waiting at the train station. so convenient! 4. sooooo clean :-)

I had requested vegetarian meals, what I was served was delicious, though I felt that it wasn't as imaginative as Sho-jin Ryori (the monk's vegetarian food) and I got far fewer dishes than my friend who was eating the fish dishes. I felt they could have offered some more substitutes or even more vegetables. However it was tasty.
The location was great, quiet but fairly easy to get to on public transport from the city. It took about an hour to Kyoto Station. Wonderful outdoor bath. Very accomodating staff, gave us an earlier breakfast as we had to leave early.

A number of the staff were obviously sick with colds so that detracts from the feeling of cleanliness. Everyone gets sick though so I don't imagine there is much else they could have done! Hope they get better soon.
This is a beautiful spot up north from Kyoto in the hills. The onsen baths are amazing and the kaiseki dinner was really fun. The staff was very helpful and kind and a shuttle picks you right up from the last subway stop.

The hotel is in a beautiful location! Must not miss the Kurama-dera temple! The staff is very friendly and the place is SO VERY CLEAN! Food is very good too!

The outdoor onsen had a great view and the cool air felt great contrasting against the hot water. It was very relaxing. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The food was amazing. Each meal had a variety of dishes, and everything tasted great. We had a wonderful time at Kurama Onsen.

This is a very nice place located in the mountain side near Kyoto. Easy to go by train and free shuttle is available without reservation. I thought it would be a small and quiet place as it only has 5 rooms. But in fact it's very much a travelers' place and most people come all the way for a onsen bath without a stay which makes the bath very crowded until dinner time. Well mainly for women as my husband said he enjoyed the bath in a 'comfort' way. The Guests who stayed over night were all foreigners which could make the onsen experience not so nice if you happened to meet sb annoying. Unfortunately I did: when I was in the bath sb else was doing selfie! So I had to leave right away. Anyway the place is quite nice and the staff were helpful. Moreover they have tasting ice cream!

No fancy onsen or room but because of this, you feel its very natural. All the staff and the driver we come across are friendly and helpful. The facilities are well kept and clean. Recommend to spend a night there so you will be totally relaxed after the bath. A wonderful onsen experience.

Not an ideal place for picky eaters.Slow service at the bar (though a vending machine for beer was on site so all was not lost).
The staff were helpful and very friendly, facilities were clean, and the baths were heavenly. The nearby walk over the mountain through the Kurama temple was stunning and a great 3 hour hike, even without walking shoes. The food was very traditional and varied, and plentiful.

Lovely attentive staff. Despite their limited English, they were most attentive and accommodating. Food is lovely. We loved the gorgeous temple down the road Kurama-dera. Stunning setting.

It was difficult to know what we were eating without menus in english, but still a great experience in traditional Japanese dining
Our first experience of onsen and ryokan. Outside bathing whilst it was snowing. Staff had limited English but did their very best to explain things and make us comfortable

The environment is peaceful and comfortable, very local.

the staff rushed us through dinner, and made us start earlier than the agreed time. we felt quite pressurized. Both of these features made the evening overly structured and quite uncomfortable. In addition, the staff commented that we (two females) were drinking too much. Which was also unpleasant.
the kimonos were lovely and the baths were beautiful and very relaxing
