Location was AWESOME. Price was great for location, customer service and amenities. Laundry was free so made up for the washer dryer combo machine's minimum total load time of three hours. Massage chair in laundry room was really good! Toiletry bag was super useful especially the face mask and body pouf.
Bed - I did go into am empty room to get an extra blanket and more mattresses though. Also, the staff noticed this the next day and turned on extra heat for me.
Prime location, 5 mins from kodaiji temple and yoroshiku shrine. Close to kiyumizudera via beautiful higashiyama streets. Room was beautiful japanese style, elegant with all modern trappings too. Cute and clean dogs. Lovely staff who spoke good English.
Was a little pricey (but not really for kyoto) but overall the quality, location and stay made it worth it. I did not regret the stay at all.
very near the Kiyomizu-dera Temple. Our room is newly renovated and has no stains on the walls. Very clean and brand new looking rooms. The Staffs are very friendly and helpful. Dogs are harmless and very friendly to guests
Far walk from train station if you have luggage with you.
Super location! Friendly staff ! Detailed and useful tour guide booklet in every room! Fresh fruit everyday ! Lovely yard ! Everything is perfect ~
Location, room facility
Extremely good. I will come back again.
Mineral water and fruit provided in the room; A folder of visual guide to some tourist attractions.
Mainly the key male receptionist. His hospitality and communication skills need to be improved. Compared to Japanese standard services, he sounds rude, especially in emails.
Overall this was a great place to stay, located in the beautiful Gion district. Staff very helpful and have us great recommendations for dinner. Wifi in room also which was a plus! We got fresh fruit every evening. Lovely spacious room. Overall we were very happy with our stay here.
Futon could have done with an extra layer of padding - although this is probably standard. A little bit on the pricey side considering breakfast is not included.
Very good location and very peaceful. The Ryokan is nearby Gion. Walking distance to many famous temples. The Ryokan is owned by a Japanese family with 4 cute doges, very friendly. I love it. Will recommend my friends to live if they go to Kyoto. Service is good. Very good experience in Kyoto. Thanks a lot.
No food service available inside Ryokan.
There was fruits in the fridge every evening.
Toilet a bit small. Seems to be the case in Japan. Nevertheless they could still fit a bath tub.
Japanese style room Wi-Fi Hosts is friendly & helpful Excellent location it is just behind Yasaka-jinja where is the center of Gion.
At the first time you come it's a little difficult to find if you do not have a navigation.
Everyone, location was fantastic, staff were amazing, friendly and helpful. My favourite part was how every night they'd have some fruity in the fridge for me when I got back from the day. Coupled with a relaxing bath and the yukata they provided, the experience I had at this ryokan was amazing. Would go back again for sure.
Cause I'm allergic to dog hair, their four dogs gave my allergies a bit of a working in the morning, but the ryokan is very clean and the dogs are well-kept, happy and clean and are only ever on the ground floor.
four cute dogs
I absolutely enjoyed my stay at Gion Sano ryokan. It is located in the Gion area, which is great for night activities. It's very close to Yasaka Shrine, which makes a very good point of reference. The staff was extremely kind and helpful. The facilities are clean and they make sure that you can enjoy the most pleasant experience with them. Without a doubt I would go back.
Very near Gion and near a very scenic walk to kiyomizudera temple
Was not easy to find!
Very pleasant staff, even received lovely cold tea and fruit to refresh as a welcome. Very suitable place if you want to experience real Japanese culture. Just minutes away from quite a few temples and historic Gion area. You ca go out for a late evening meal, hotel staff give you a key to unlock the outside doors once you are back. Would recommend this to anyone who has limited time to explore the area - loads to see just few minutes from hotel. Will definetily return again.
Although had some troubles while confirming my arrival time and received quite rude e-mails from the hotel staff (in quite bad English, so give them a benefit of a doubt that the real meaning was lost in translation), everyone was very pleasant on my late arrival in the end.
Ryokan Gion Sano is within 15 min walk to Kiyomizudera. Walking distance to bus station is acceptable. Tatami is quite nice experience for foreign guests to Japan.
Finding the hotel take some time. With the aid of Google map, I still took 10 min to find it. The quilt is a little too warm for me. Maybe the hotel can consider offering some alternatives?
Absolutely loved the location and ever friendly service including all the small touches to make us feel welcome and relaxed. After working in hotels for many years, I love finding places that feel like a home away from home..and this was exactly that. Be sure to check out the cafe directly opposite, a little pricey but it's Japanese simplicity at its best.
Very confortable. The staff very friendly, always answering your questions and helping you for anything you need. The room very clean, big and beautiful. I liked a lot that every day they let you in the frigo the "fruit of the day". The locaction in Gion was perfect!! Highly recomended!!
Location is optimal with respect to famous sights, temples etc. Use of bikes mediated by hotel, very useful in Kyoto Friendly personnel, daily plate with fresh fruit included
TV has no English channels, as apparently everywhere in Japan Return after 23.00 after special agreement possible
great place to stay, clean, friendly, quiet, good value
We wanted to do some cooking class and other things in town, and the staff at the reception helped us to book everything. Also, I lost my phone in the taxi, and the staff helped me a lot by calling everywhere, and they eventually found it! They are all very nice and helpful!
Very nice man and ladies who work there. They escort you to your room and pour tea and make sure you are settled. Room 308 is a great size room and you can see views of the tower and hotel is in a cool traditional Japanese area if that's what you are looking for
The kindness of the staff the traditional room.
I would have liked the offer of a traditional breakfast and dinner (upon request).
A wonderful welcome with tea and melon served to us in our room (and fresh fruit left in our room everyday after that). Beautiful large room (with separate lounge and bedroom), in traditional Japanese style. Staff were very helpful and spoke good English. Having put a load of washing into the machine before going out to dinner one evening, we were informed that it was dry and had been returned to our room by the time we got back. Such facilities were completely free to use as well. The location in the middle of the Gion district was magical.
Bathroom was quite hot and the shower curtain could do with being replaced. There is not an English sign outside so we did have a bit of trouble finding the property initially.
