Friendly staff but way over priced for room and breakfast.
Good location for exploring Kyoto and surrounds, friendly staff, decent food and lodging
No hot chocolate
Cleanliness and room cleaning was great
Location Breakfast (¥800) Friendly staff always happy to help Concierge: they will show you everything you need Sake tasting Night at the Ryokan Wifi works great Feels like being a Japanese Free toileteries from Shisheido Warm water in the bathroom I was cold and they showed me how to put the heating, since then I was always warm in my room
They did not have the latest heated toilet! It's truly a great place to stay, for the value! And you feel very taken care off! Loved it
The hotel itself was clean, the staff was very helpful, and the breakfast in the morning (not included) was great. Guests are provided with robes and slippers to wear about the hotel. Very nice Japanese style rooms with futon mats.
I must have been allergic to the room (I have a dust and mold allergy), because each morning I awoke very congested- sort of a musty hotel, if you will. Wi-Fi is only available in the lobby, which was a bit inconvenient. The location is not ideal as it is about a 10 minute walk to the train station. Next time I will stay in a more central area.
The staff was very nice. Always at help
We arrived late night and the guy at the frint desk didnt tell us abiut the heater instruction manual was on the desk. Didnt even explain how the heat remite control worked, so I froze all nigjt and couldnt get a nice rest. Next day I was cold and tired fir my sightseeing in my only day in Kyoto. The manager aknowledge this and was very nuce and let me do my laundry at ni cost and gave me a box of tea as a gift. I thought it was a nice gesture.
Staffs speak good english. Lovely staffs. Very efficient during check-in/out. Our room wasn't ready as we were early but staff insisted that we wait for a good 10mins while theyre getting ready. Served a good tea while we wait. Many informative leaflets at the reception for tourists. We also rented a wifi router for ¥1000. Excellent speed. Room was cleaned everyday, we had a good stay.
Within walking distance from Kyoto station but took us around 10-15mins. It was nice during our first few stays but after awhile we get irritated of the need to walk that far to the hotel after a long day. Soundproof is weak. I could hear neighbours talking around 5am. I could also hear stomping sound outside or from the above floor. I could easily hear my neighbours opens/closes their closets or doors. But apart from this it was lovely.
Whole hotel is very sharp looking, looks new. Very good for low price.
Staff felt a little distant, but still very professional, so not that big of a deal. Hotel is a little out of the way/in a back street.
Good manners of hotel staffs Clean Good location
Noisy due to thin wall, can easily awoke by next door tenant. Hotel is unbelievable out-dated, the rest room sucks a big time, not worth the money
Staffs are really polite and nice. Culture event is fun. Ryokan is in a great neighborhood and easy to get around the city.
Near Kyoto station.
The continental breakfast should be included in the prize.
The ryokan was walking distance from the local station which was handy. Staff was very friendly and informative at our arrival. If you are visiting Japan (or Kyoto) for the first time it's a good place to stay.
Not what I call the very traditional Japanese Ryokan. The room we stayed had tatami-mat floor but just enough to put two futon bed, rest was wooden floor with sofa-bed and coffee table/TV. This place is mainly catered for European and some Asian tourists and didn't see any Japanese tourists staying there. Compare to other places we stayed in Japan, available amenities / snacks which come with the room are very limited and basic considering the price. The simple Japanese style breakfast (which is not included in room rate) was OK but quite expensive for what it was. Not sure if this is due to Kyoto being tourist central but had better Japanese breakfast for cheaper rate at other other ryokan.
For our first time in Kyoto, this Hotel was a very pleasant surprise! All the staff was great, speaking English, gave us directions whenever we needed. The rooms although small, they have a big closet to put the bags and other stuff. Even if we had to make our own bed, it was great to sleep in a tipical japanese bed. The location is not very good but it is also not very bad. It's a 20min walk from kyoto station (bring a map!) but it has bus stops right at the door. It also has a huge temple on the other side of the road, which is very nice.
The location. We got lost trying to find it, because it's in a small street with almost no movement. It's not dangerous, but it's a litle hard to find.
The place had everything, although we were not fully aware of it. This was our own fault, since the live instructions from the staff are minimal, and they advise you read the booklet in the room, which we didn't (and we did not look very well). The place offers a good, comfortable stay.
Although the place is relatively close to the station, this area was not appealing to us - in the sense that the major sights and the night entertainment are not quite nearby. This was not a real downer to us, but you might want to be aware of this.
Large room, clean
Poor sound-proof room, we could hear everything from the other room, even people talking.
Professional, English speaking staff. Room was very comfortable, clean, well organized. Hotel organized sake tasting in the evening which was great experience. Breakfast was very good and well worth the money paid. Location is very convenient.
Bilingual friendly helpful staff, Japanese room, breakfast everything was a home run!!
Nothing at all
Good mix between ryokan and western hotel. Very big room I thought, and the bed was very comfortable. People were friendly, and took care of your needs. Wifi was fast, and easily accessible. They give you your own router to plug in the wall. Right across from a very big temple that isn't too crowded with tourists.
A little far away from the main attractions, although it's close enough to a bus stop if you don't feel like walking. Walls are a little thin, you can hear your neighbors for better or worse.
A very enjoyable stay, friendly staff offering a unique experience. The tour with visiting a kimono factory, incense store and pickles store was excellent. Many thanks to the team.
Loved being able to stay in a traditional Ryokan, was very fun being able to dress up in the Kimonos and make our bed at night. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Was not the best location but we hired bikes so it was very easy to get around once you got the hang of reading the maps!
The service was superb! The main guy was very friendly and helpful. We wanted to stag an extra night but there was no room at Sakura so he rang around and booked another hotel for us. I saw him help many others too finding places to eat, getting to a particular shrine etc etc. it was very homely and comfortable. Walking distance from Kyoto station, many great places to eat in walking distance, rental bike is near too.
Bathroom had a slight smell but then again I'm pregnant and I smell everything. I don't know if my partner noticed.
very clean and confortable. good facilities.
Close to kyoto station Friendly staff
The staff was very friendly and smiling making you feel welcome. There were lots of helpful leaflets about what to do in and around Kyoto. The tiled floor in the common areas rather than fitted carpet.
No lift for people only for luggage, Walls very thin so we could the people next door. No communal bath. A fair walk to Kyoto station or Gojo station so not as convenient we would have liked to go sightseeing. Overall we feel the accommodation was a bit overpriced for what it offers we had better value in the two accommodations we stayed at also in Kyoto. We stayed near Kawaramachi station before and found it a much better location for ease of access to the main sights (kiyomizu-dera, Gion, Pontocho, etc) and for shopping and restaurants/cafés.
the owner was wonderfully helpful and pleasant. location is walking distance to everything. recommend the Japanese breakfast if you are adventurous.
we, an older couple, thought it would be fun to experience sleeping on the floor on a futon, Japanese-style, but it's pretty uncomfortable for old guys.
