The warm, tranquil atmosphere and courteous service. Although the room itself was quite basic, this was more than made up for by the romance and small touches to provide comfort such as lovely bedding, heated toilet seat and fresh tea/ kimono/water everyday.
The room was quite small with quite basic facilities.
The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. We stayed in the traditional ryokan and it was a great experience!! Close to Keage train station, the zoo and in walking distance of restaurants and shops!
This was one of our favs- the bed...THE BED!! It was amazing and soft and the doona and pillows were fluffy- bliss! The staff were really sweet and upon arrival we were treated to hot tea and a sweet. We went out in the evening and when we returned they had made our futons for us which was wonderful. The wifi was the best we had the whole trip! Very close to Nanzenji -a 2 minute walk away and was simply breathtaking, as was the neighbourhood in general. Excellent all round :)
The staff were helpful and the restaurant was good
The room had holes in the wall, walls of the toilet were needed some TLC and the cupboards were a botch job inside. Not something I would expect from a place trying to sell them self as an upmarket Ryokan
it is close to various temples and tourist locations. Food was good.
A bit pricey for the dinner. The lounge area was messy.
We love the japanese style room. The food is so good! We love the food and the loction.
Very big bedroom compared to most hotels I've been in Japan. The surrundings are beautiful, with a river. Tthere's a station nearby. The ryokan is a really traditional house so you get to imagine how old Japan used to be. Close to the Philosopher's path and many temples. The man that attended us was super nice.
A bit far from the center.
Loved experiencing a traditional ryokan and learning some of the Japanese traditions. The location was fantastic and our room overlooked a gorgeous garden.
The ryokan is calm and quite, the staff is very nice and helpful, although they don't talk great english they always manage to help you. It's great idea to have dinner at theire restaurant.
Location is good if your are looking to relax but not convenient to go to tourist attractions during the night, but still near many places
very close to temples and fantastic restaurant at this ryokan. Children enjoyed feeding the fish in the beautiful japanese garden after breakfast.
The location. It was not too far from a bus station and very close from the Nankuji shrine.
The price. It was very expensive compared to other ryokan we have been to. The male onsen was not very clean. The room was noisy.
Quiet, clean, spacious room, bycicle rental
This Ryoken felt very traditional - all slippers and kimonos - and I enjoyed going in the Onsen which was clean with good quality spa products. The staff were friendly and helpful - the manager speaks English well and the rest of the get by with lots of friendly gesturing. If you want a quirky Japanese experience with futons, garden rooms opening onto a stream, creaky floors and paper thin walls in pretty surroundings then this is a good place. The location is also helpful as you can walk to a number of attractions and restaurants. The free bikes are a nice touch although there were no children's seats or small bikes for our 4 year old
I would not have wanted to sleep on the futons for more than 2 nights but I was pregnant! We felt the Ryoken was a little over priced but then the going rate in Kyoto seems expensive. The Japanese breakfast was fantastic but, perhaps unsurprisingly, the western food was a little average.
You don't get at all what you Pay for. Way overpriced! Pictures are misleading. They don't correspond to Reality. Staff seems demotivated and kind of impassive. Ryokan including rooms are musty and neglected. You get much better ryokans or Even minshukus for less Money. You definitely won't find the Ryokan experience You might be looking for at yachiyo!
The proximity to the temple , and the natural surroundings. Breakfast and dinner were very good. Staff was very helpful with directions. The option of bicycle availability.
A little far from Kyoto station and hard to find you way around the first few days.
nice staff, good english speaking very traditional great restaurant good location, next to big temple
The food was delicious, both breakfast and dinner.
Great location in walking distance of downtown area and subway stop.
Noisy with road traffic so not a peaceful sleep. Interesting the staff would replace soap and other toiletries each day, but would not replace the cool or hot water in the tea pots each day. Mens bath water was not very warm, but a nice facility all the same.
-traditional Japanese room and food -recommended for those who want to experience lód fashion Japanese way of livng -helpful staff -public bath is OK -very good location -close to many shrines and gardens and to metro station -fast internet in the room
-very small garden, impossible to walk around -noise from the nearby road -rooms and public areas need renovation, they are runned down -breakfast served very early (8.30)
The staff was very helpful. The location was perfect for a relaxing stay in Kyoto. Walking distance to beautiful temple. Easy access to subway.
I really liked the inn and staff. However, it would be good to note that we took a taxi to/from the train station and the room and bathroom are Japanese style.
The Japanese ryokan experience was fantastic, it makes you live as you were a Japanese, it has a very good quite location and the hot spring bath was a nice experience.
The sleeping mattresses were ok but the pillow that they (only) offer was terrible
The location, room, food (Kaiseiki) & the service is all authentic Japanese/ I highly recommend this place.
The size of the room was ok and the garden was nice. Free bicycles for hotel guests
Well, the room is totally overpriced. What you get and what you pay (for such a premium Ryokan) is a total mismatch. Some points we noticed: - Insects in the room - Hot Water in the shower came after waiting 10-15min and then it was a very poor jet of water - Receptionist was sometimes just not available for 10+minutes - the infrastructure in general is in a very poor condition. Carpets are ugly, the public bath is old and very small (some would call it a bathtub) and the whole interior just doesn't fit together (70ties chairs & carpets, traditional Japanese elements, modern but cheap TVs etc.) - The internet didnt work sometimes (which would be ok in a youth hostel, but not when paying EUR 380.- a night, breakfast excluded) - In our room, we had a small light that couldn't be switched off during the night (which is rather annoying when you want to sleep) - A couple of points more that we don't want to mention here. Overall, we really don't recommend to go there. The owner first has to invest a substantial amount of money or lower the prices significantly. The current deal is just not a fair game for the guests.
Food (especially amazing kaiseki), location, onsen, hosts
Authenticity Ambiance Garden View
