This is the hotel I choose when ever I visit Kyoto. A modest hotel with the most friendly staff always presenting the best Japanese hospitality. Location is close to subway and major bus stops.
Super friendly staff, large rooms, excellent location 50m away from subway and adjacent to the amazing Gion and Ponto-cho areas of Kyoto, with lots of restaurants and bars. Overall, a very comfortable stay at a lovely hotel.

It's less than 5 minutes walk from subways. You may also walk to Sanjo, Shijo & Gion street.
Only hotel with a foot/leg massager which is really great after a day of walking!
Price is quite high
Near great sites like the Ueno Park, Tokyo National Musuem, Senso-ji Temple etc. Close to subways. Loads of supermarkets like 7-Eleven, Family Mart and restaurants about 10 mins walk. All in Asakusa. Able to cook, there is also a microwave, shower is good, was on room 901 which you could see the Sky Tree Tower nicely from your verandah. Room was big enogh for a solo traveller like me.
I'm a light sleeper and sometimes traffic in the late evenings can be a bother, but only for a short period, then its all quite.
Great location, and staff was helpful in directing me to good restaurants
Hotel will NOT provide more than one bath towel (2 for double room); I thought that was ridiculous, especially for the price of room (most I paid in 3 weeks in Japan). As a result, I would not stay again or recommend.
Short walk to Gion district and to lovely restaurants along the river. Twin beds probably gave us more room than a double. Beds were extremely comfortable. Excellent budget hotel.
No complaints at all.
The hotel is very close to the Sanjo subway station (use exit 1 and walk towards east). Can be also reached by the No. 5 bus from Kyoto station. The southern and north Higashiyama temples are close-by, although you have to be a keen walker to do them on foot (I did). Gion, Nishiki market and the central area is not that far either. There are convenience shops and eateries nearby. The hotel is very new. Rooms are bigger than what you get for this money in other Japanese hotels. Apart from the usual kettle/fridge/toiletries combo there is also a safe in the room. i also received special bath salts at check-in. Breakfast is an extra 500 yens but is worth it: a buffet of yoghurt, rolls, boiled eggs, Japanese salads and soup. Staff is very helpful.
The pillow was huge and rock hard. Plumbing noise (toilets/showers) from other rooms was very loud.
Great location and great service. Spacious room, nice comfortable bed and sleepwear. Clean bathroom.
The only thing I did not like was the hotel did not have any phone for guests. Many guests have cellphones, but not all of them. U.S. cellphones do not work in Japan. If you did not have a chance to rent a cellphone, you are in trouble.
The staff is incredibly kind and helpful. Location is fantastic. The room is comfortable and clean. Less than a block from metro. My husband loved the heated toilet seat in our room.
The breakfast was terrible. "Western breakfast" means boiled bacon (no one in the western world boils bacon...gross), un-nutritious white bread and fish soup. Trust me, skip it!!!
Quite large rooms by Japanese standards. We chose not to buy breakfast but a list of places to eat. Walking distance to large malls and also to Gion distance. Bus easy to take to temple area. Inexpensive taxi to/from train station.
Big heavy quilts meant we had to have air con on high in order to counteract the quilt temperature. Supplying a lighter weight blanket/sheet would have been great but that happened to us everywhere. This was a little bit more4 expensive for a hotel - it would have been nice to have provided a light breakfast free.
'Concept' room has electricity substation directly outside window Toilet paper is so thin as to be basically unusable
Very friendly helpful staff. Very convenient for sightseeing and nightlife. 5 minute walk to Gion and Pontocho.
No view - looking out at a brick wall. Windows don't open.
Time of cleaning service is not flexible and communication can be improved.
Situated on Sanjo st (bus station&psi way) next to the bridge and 5 minutes walking from the night district. Very nice and helpful staff
Very friendly and helpful English speaking staff. Entire hotel is new or newly remodeled. Comfortable bed. Great location. Simple, reasonable, tasty breakfast.
Pillow have those weird beads inside that Japanese seem to be fond of. Rooms are business-hotel sized (fine, however, for a single traveler like me).
Stayed here for 2 nights on a recent visit to Kyoto. The location is excellent, just steps away from the Sanjo Keihan subway station and short walk to the river. Closest attraction is the Pontocho district with all the restaurants and traditional teahouses. Walkable to the main shopping district as well as Gion. Staff is very friendly and the rooms are relatively large by Japanese standards. The bath salts upon check in are a nice touch.
I deduct a point because the air conditioning was a bit difficult to adjust so that it wouldn't blow straight on our heads, even at lowest setting. Seems to be a problem in many Japanese hotels, maybe because the rooms are small?
Comfort, big windows and lots of light, which didn't make the tiny room so bad. Nice renovated bathroom. Again small, but it had a big bath. Friendly staff. Good location. Walking distance to all restuarants, cafes and Gion Corner.
Very small, no cupboard, had to live out of a folded up suitcase for 3 days. But it didn't spoil our stay.
Price & service
The size of room is much bigger than most other hotels. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Very good location in city of Kyoto.
- very friendly and helpful staff - lots of good maps and printed info available for getting around within Kyoto - good buffet breakfast at reasonable price (500 yen)
rooms are a bit small
Room is very clean. Convenient location. Coin laundry is 5mins walking distance, again very clean, and cheap - 8kg wash and dry for 900 Yan.
Check out is strictly at 10am, otherwise a per hour charge is in. Continental breakfast needs 1day ahead reservation.
Very nice and helpful staff. Good location, clean and quiet.
Location is good
