Great location, ten min walk from central train station. Comfortable sleep. Friendly staff
Wifi really bad. Really expensive. Staff not very helpful with information about Kyoto. Bad English. Bad breakfast.
Exceptionally nice staff. Good level of English spoken. Madoka in particular speaks very good English and went out of her way to find some recommendations for gift shopping.
close to the train station modern bathroom decorative good ryokan experience
Not far from the JR Kyoto station, clean and tidy,I can use the microwave to heat the food bought from the B1F Iestan!that is very convinient !I can communicate with the host in English without any problem.

Traditional set up of the accommodation, with Japanese robes supplied, tatame mat floors and soft mattresses on the floor, with complimentary tea. Good location, easy to find.
Limited tourist information available, with very basic English spoken by staff. Also it was fairly expensive for such simple accommodation, although I understand that ryokans are typically expensive. However we stayed at a budget hostel that provided very similar accommodation for 40% of the cost, which was the main downside to this place.
The small kitchen facilities was provided with utensils for cooking. The free laundry facilities were a great help. The staff were very helpful and spoke some English which made it easy.
Facilities are good and value for money
ask for the checkout at 10am
This ryokan was wonderful. The staff were so helpful. It was in a great location and exceptionally clean. I would definitely stay there again and would recommend it to everybody.
There was nothing I didn't like about it.
What stands out the most is the friendly staff. I was given a tour of the facilities and then given friendly advice about nearby restaurants. This is a nice change of pace from a western hotel, very clean and comfortable. Kyoto station is a 10 minute walk, another subway station is just minutes away.
The breakfast, while only 1,000 Yen more, should really be included in the price of the room. It's not the cheapest given the accommodations.
The modern design, excellent staff service, location is 10 minutes walk to the central Kyoto Station. Lawson and Sukuya are nearby.
The price is way too expensive for the room. Even I could find 4 stars hotel in downtown Tokyo with the same rate.
spotless; convenient location to Kyoto Station
noises coming from other rooms at night; weird noises in the room (301) after turning off the light; wifi on and off
Japanese breakfast was tasty and satisfying.
Would have liked staff to make a few suggestions about things to do but they had very little time. Also, breakfast room is a bit small.
Great location! The staff is very helpful. He recommended us a small cozy traditional Japanese style restaurant where the food was good, and the atmosphere was also very "Japanese."
Ideal location, gorgeous staff, beautiful room:) loved it!
Proximity to Kyoto Station - 10 to 15 minutes walk depending on pace. Minimum taxi fare to reach Kyoto station Yen 590 only Quiet and peaceful environment Privacy
Pillows were too soft and becomes flat when head is rested on it Sound proofing could be a bit better Little or no English programs on TV Additional hooks and railings in the small bathroom would be appreciated
Staff were friendly and room was clean and comfortable. Location is very quiet.
No meals provided with price, breakfast was very early and 1000 yen. There was no common room or accessible garden.
We really enjoyed having the traditional style tatami room and the little details the staff paid to the room to make us feel welcomed and relaxed. We really liked having the feel of traditional Japanese room with the privacy of a western bathroom/shower. The ryokan is a short and easy walk to Kyoto station. There are plenty of stores and places to get daily travel necessities from. The breakfast at the ryokan is great and good value for money. The staff are all friendly and helpful. We have a lovely time during our stay at Matsubaya Ryokan.
Nice little Ryokan. Staff was very friendly and relatively close to the Kyoto Station.
The shower room is shared although toilet is private.
They were very helpful with giving directions and assisting us in any way. They spoke good English and treated us with respect. The rooms were clean and a nice bathroom. Good location. fast Wi-Fi
They need an onsen! Every ryokan should have one. Felt a bit too modernized.
The staff and owners were extremely dedicated and attentive. The hotel is run like a much love loved family business.
There is little I can fault really, not for the price tag.
authentic hotel near the station. very friendly stuff, who speaks english.
Pleasant staff Good location Excellent Japanese breakfast
The hotel is located near Kyoto Station, just a 15 minute walk away (and only 5 minutes if you follow the station's underground walkway all the way to the end). Ask for directions at the information booth at Kyoto Station. It makes it easier to find your way through the station. The staff speaks English reasonably well and gave us maps and advice for taking buses and the subway. We took buses, which were easy to use with the map provided to us. Within easy bus rides are the Nijo Castle, Imperial Palace, and several interesting Buddhist temples. The rooms are not large, but they are very clean, modern, and comfortable. And more than large enough for our needs. The wifi worked just fine, like it is supposed to. You won't get great views from your bedroom window, especially if you are on a lower flower. It's a small place in the middle of the city. However, we were on the fifth floor (they have an elevator) and so we liked looking over the rooftops and alleys of our little part of the city. We could see the Kyoto Tower from the balcony. The staff let us check in early to hold our bags in our room, and they held our bags after we checked out while we toured the city before we left. The Japanese breakfast was very good and reasonably priced. I recommend it. They also serve eggs and toast, if you want a more conventional Western breakfast. By the way, just around the corner from the hotel is a place that rents bikes. Again, the staff was very friendly and helpful.
Nice and clean. We had the garden room on first floor that was nice (although maybe an unnecessary extravagance).
The cook wasn't there the weekend so we couldn't order a meal. If I were to do it again I would stay in a Ryokan with supper and breakfast. Only stayed one night... That was all the Ryokan novelty that I needed
