Score from 60 reviews Wonderful
The owner is very friendly and helpful.
Brian and Shuko are excellent hosts, very nice friendly place to stay.
Few minutes by foot from the train station, really nice (English-speaking) owner, give me useful recommendations,
The walls are pretty thin, so you might think of using ear plugs
The hostel is very close to the train station, so that you can go on foot from the station in about 10 minutes. The room wasss a bit small for three people, but the fouton was confortable. The kitchen is well equiped and it is possible to cook.
My room was upstairs and the toilet is downstairs, so it was very incovenient to go to the toilet at night, specially because the staircase is very steep.
Brian and Shuko's great sense of what we need as guests and customers - ratio of hospitality and project management, so to say :) lovely and very clean house, splendid location, guidance to whatever needs to be seeen and what is good to see
- Sleeping in a futon on tatami - Perfect english speaking staff - Very helpful staff
- No air conditioning(but it was not too hot)
I love all of things in here
The owners are a very cool couple, who can provide good advice about Matsumoto city and the hikes around it. The hostel feels like home, is clean, calm, and beautifully located.
Friendly, amenities a MF environmental conscious
A comfortable, clean and location near to train station hostel.
Very friendly and helpful host, cosy, clean
Private rooms were cramped
–Brian and Shuko were very friendly to have a chat with and had an open door to approach them about anything. –Room had good amount of storage to stow away bags so that they weren't in the way –Clean –Wifi was quite fast and consistent –Easy, close walk to station –Supermarket right at the end of the road
–There is a rail bridge you have to walk under to get there, which felt a bit uneasy walking under at night.
The staff was very nice and if you're travelling with a heavy backpack, the location is very convenient.
-The hosts were very helpful in helping us find attractions that aligned with our interests
Matsumoto Backpackers is in an excellent location, close to all the main attractions and a quick walk from train station. Brian and Shuko were absolutely lovely hosts and super helpful whenever we had any questions about getting around the city or nearby locations. One of the cleanest and comfiest places I've ever stayed at. Definitely reccomended.
The hosts were very nice people, and the room was a classic tatami that was surprisingly spacious. The bathrooms were clean and for a hostel, everything was incredibly well organized (including endearing sticky notes all over the house). We only stayed a night but the region is wonderful and it seems like the hosts knew it quite well. Have some soba or fried pig intestine at one of the lcoal joints close to the train station!
Nothing, all was great for what we wanted.
Shuko and Brian are very nice people, friendly, helpful, funny. They could give me tipps for doing some trips in and around Matsumoto. I could put my bag in the hostel before check in and also after check out it was no problem to take my bagpack in the evening. I felt very well at their hostel, it was like came home. The hostel is easy to find because of their good description, a very good place to stay and walking around in the city. The hostel is clean and comfortable to stay. Perhaps they should have some more bowls. I had a geat time at Matsumoto Backpackers
Brian and Shuko are wonderful hosts - very kind and helpful. I was glad to be able to chat with them (in English) during my stay. The guesthouse, although a bit small, is clean and I love the home-y feel. I was very comfortable in my tatami room. Location-wise, it is about 5 mins from Matsumoto Station, and 15 mins walk to Matsumoto Castle.
There was nothing about the guesthouse or staff that I didn't like, and it was nice that I had a small tatami room to myself (sharing the same room on futons with another traveler could have been interesting but not as private as separate sleeping bunkbeds/capsules like other hostels). Because it is so close to the station, trains can be pretty loud especially at night. Also, around 6am, I was woken up by construction happening somewhere nearby, which wasn't the best...
Great approach of owners, their hiking and climbing knowledge and advices, enthusiasm
Lovely warm hosts. Good location near train station and castle on bank of a river. The town has lots of neat little bars serving delicious food including the local soba favourite.
The hangover I had in the morning.
The host is very nice and helpful. The room was just nice for 3 persons, clean and comfortable futons were provided.
good location. not far from train station. walking distance to nearby attraction places. nearby one ONzen... good experience.
close to main road. pachiko shop beside. night time... abit noisy
really helpful and knowledgable owners. lots of space, very clean and close to main train station
MatsumotoBP is simply awesome! Thank you Shuko and Brian for the great time, will definitely come back!
