No wifi in the room.
April 23, 2015
The wifi didn't really work in the rooms - but the hotel is up front about that.
Right next to the bus station, subway, railway, etc. Also close to shops - the Porta food court is maybe twenty metres away, and the Isetan department store and BIC Camera are a few minutes away.
April 23, 2015
Wifi only limited to the hall. They were unable to keep our luggages for a few nights while we were away From kyoto
Location is definitely plus point
April 22, 2015
no wi-fi at room
April 16, 2015
-Wifi only avialable in the the lobby -we want to leave our luggage to 6pm but the staff is only allowed to 3 pm.
location is very near to metro
March 26, 2015
bed and room a bit small for 2 persons
few walks away to the major public transport
February 15, 2015
Just wanted wifi in the room but the lobby was good.
Everything!!!! It was amazing!! The place.. The people.. The food... Fell in love. And as I speak a little Japanese made it better. ;-)
February 14, 2015
1. Bathroom for triple room is very old. 2. WIFI available in the lobby only 3. Room is too small for 3 people.
only location which is near Kyoto station.

The bath was great Location is awesome

Poor attitude of staff. Can't leave luggage after 3PM when check out. NO FREE in-room WIFI!!!
Nice cozy ryokan style room. Great location near Kyoto Station.
January 9, 2015
The free Wi Fi was a bit problematic on the ground floor with both of our mobiles and in-room WiFi would be recommended. Pillows and futon weren't exactly comfortable, but hey, it was Japanese style so we can't complain too much!
We stayed for 2 nights as part of our honeymoon in Japan and thought it was great value accommodation close to the station. The breakfasts were a great sampling of Japanese food, we were in a Japanese style room with two futons and private bathroom, very basic but clean and functional and thankfully a quick-working heater! Polite staff, good basic English skills.

It is a bit expensive
Tatami japanese room setting and location of the hotel very strategic
January 5, 2015
When we arrived, the staff wasn't nice at all. He was grumpy; sighing all the time while we were checking in and kept saying that we were too early. I had to inform him that I've written to the hotel to tell them that we will be arriving early and they have acknowledge it so why the attitude. We were not impressed at all.
The location is excellent; right across the Kyoto Station with underground crossing right in front of the hotel.
January 3, 2015
the small room size and facilities is not worth the price of room.
January 1, 2015
- Mid day front desk person: not very helpful, borderline unfriendly, over the phone and in person, to both Japanese or English speaking customers. Attitude is "I don't give a damn" with a big smile. - Wifi only available in lobby. - Futons were a bit too thin.
- Japanese room with bathroom, classic/standard design while being on the smaller side. - Easy access to JR station, underground pathway is right next to entrance of hotel.
December 31, 2014
The only bad thing to say is that there was no wifi in the room.
We stayed on the 5th floor which was really nice with an okay view. The staff was very very nice! Loved the public bath! We will definitly come back if we ever visit Kyoto again.
December 30, 2014
- Old - Bath room was small - On-Sen was small
- Right to the Kyoto Tower - Right to the Isetan - Right to the Train Station
December 26, 2014
The breakfast wasn't that tasty. The room was quite small. Wifi was only available at the lobby which was freezing cold.
Owner can speak English and very helpful. He recommended a few attractions for us to visit and even guided us on the directions.
December 26, 2014
The staff does not speak english (or very little) and there is no wifi in the rooms except for the lobby.
At matsumoto you can experience a ryokan for a reasonable price at a fantastic central location. You can choose a japanese style (tatami floor) room with a futon bed, traditional japanese breakfast and experience a public bath. Everything is clean though the hotel feels a bit old and worn.
December 22, 2014
The male staff member appeared rude during check-in and seemed not happy I was there. Extremely overpriced at $200 per night for a 70's decor. Definitely nothing Ryokan apart from removing your shoes at reception. TV was tiny (14"screen) Room key is on a 5"piece of dowel which you are required to hand in when leaving hotel. My bedding looked used, smelt and I was suspicious whether the linen been changed from last guest. Wifi was in the foyer only which was apparently stated when booking (I must have missed it. I did walk past some nicer looking rooms that were being maintained. I felt discriminated at this hotel yet my presentation was formal and of a high standard
Location was good
December 10, 2014
Cheap, close to the station, hotel staff were very nice. It is what it is, I don't think you can beat it's location (for that price). Also remarkably quiet.
December 7, 2014
Time for check in & check out
Location near Kyoto station
December 5, 2014
Wish the checkin could be earlier & checkout a bit later like most hotels
Easy access to buses & trains as it's just a stone's throw away from the eki (5 mins walk, opposite Kyoto Station). You can't miss the yellow building & lots of places to eat around the area.
December 2, 2014
A bit worn-down cabinets and furniture, the mattress on the floor is less comfortable than a bed (good Japanese experience though, but only for 1 or 2 nights is enough for me)
Liked the excellent location, Japanese ryokan experience, the public bath in the basement, cleanliness
December 1, 2014
The service (front desk) can improve by being more helpful.
The room, including the bathroom, was clean. The location was perfect as just across from Kyoto station.
