The hotel has a lovely old world charm, a beautiful setting, and very well trained and professional staff throughout. The service at breakfast was very good and the food well prepared and served. The view from our room in the older building was stunning. And the grounds were beautifully tended. Overall this is a very welcoming place with helpful staff.
The hotel does show it's age and in some areas of the hotel this is a good thing, However, this heritage should be built on with more up to date facilities but without ruining the overall feel. The ground floor eating area is nice and informal but it has the look of a shopping arcade eatery which is a real shame. A change of furniture and decoration would bring back it in line with the rest of the building. They also need to be more flexible - drinks aren't served in the lounge areas only in the restaurant and bar and the swimming pool wasn't due to open for another week but it was 34 degrees outside!
great view from the room, nice yard with wooden habd made benches. the staff was very helpful and offered us a free shuttle to the trainstation even hours after check out allowing us to stay at the loby with WiFi. they were extremely kind and gracious.
The service was excellent; the staff were so friendly and saw to our every need. We traveled with our two young children, ages 5 and 2, and the staff were extremely warm and welcoming with them. The location is perfect to see the sights in Nikko. Our room was large with beautiful views. The dining room was also lovely.
The hotel is historical and lovely but has not been renovated in many years. We found this charming but others might not.
A heavy snow fell during our visit and we were unable to travel back to Tokyo. The sites were breathtaking in the snow as were the views from our rooms. The hotel staff were so gracious and treated us like special guests, sending us a bottle of wine to go with our elegant dinner as well as reducing our rate by half the night we were stranded. It was a real taste of an era gone by, please enjoy when you visit Nikko.
How can you dislike Perfection?
Central location. Within a few minutes walk to all the major attractions. Amazing views from the room.
The facilities are dated. The TV in the room turned itself on at 6:30am in the morning, which was very creepy.
The historic atmosphere of the hotel - really a unique experience! The superb location, next to the famous bridge and temples. Nice breakfast. Great and very friendly service from the staff of the hotel!
Very nice atmosphere - looks that it was not different from 150 years ago's! Loved all old pictures, documents and objects spread all over the place (I highly recommend to explore all corridors!) Loved the little bar Surprisingly (!) nice and fairly new bathroom equipement Very convenient location
Really really expensive for a very simple room with no particular view and no particular facilities (no gym, no onsen etc) in the hotel Furniture in the room should be renovated - this is vintage that has been used for too long! Why don't they use the chimney in the bar? would make it even nicer!
Probable the best hotel in Nikko with very convenient location, beautiful view from the hill it is located, nice staff.
Lovely historic hotel in lovely grounds and a great location between the town centre and the temple complex. Very good breakfast with proper coffee!
The lobby and history of the hotel. The breakfast was very good.
The rooms are badly in need of renovation. Our room was out of the 1950s. The public rooms have charm, but everything needs paint and a facelift.
