The WiFi didn't work for my phone (an iPhone 5C) but worked for my friends' phones. I'm not sure why, and it didn't bug me too much as I didn't go there to spend time on the Internet.
Probably something that could've been fixed by asking the proprietor, but I didn't bother.
This place is *literally* across the street from the Tobu Nikko train station. I mean, it couldn't get any closer or else it would be on top of the station.
I also liked the proprietor/manager, who spoke English clearly learned from spending a long time abroad (the US?). He was very knowledgeable about the area and without prompting, he launched into a friendly explanation of where to go in the area, complete with map and a hand-drawn tour. He was great and explained the property and amenities as well.
The facilities were older, but clean and very comfortable. The bed (a full or queen size, I had one to myself) was the most comfortable I've slept in so far in Japan (I've lived here 6 months now).
Finally, the room we picked (we were a group of 3) was really great - it was more like a converted apartment, with 2 bedrooms connected by a hallway, with the bathroom/shower in-between. These were good facilities. One room had a kitchen and a breakfast bar, it was really great.
