near Ueno station, situated in a relatively quiet corner so it was possible to sleep with the window open without noise from outside
room was not ventilated properly
good location and good price
location -- a few easy blocks from Ueno station; staff -- very helpful and knowledgeable; facilities: internet access, printer, bulletin boards, etc.
rooms just OK; same with showers, etc. But fine for the price (in Tokyo)
accessible. Near to JR Ueno station and Inaricho station.
Location was fantastic, just 30 m from the Inaricho metro station or an easy 20 min walk from Ueno station where the Ameyoko market is located which is famous for its numerous restaurants with prices lower than anywhere else. One can easily walk to Asakusa/Sensoji tehmple instead of taking the metro for a two stop ride, and enjoy the local sights along the way. Staff was very very helpful too. Prices were alright.
Rooms were a bit shabby
I am really love this place. The location is near to metro subway (Inaricho station). The restuarant and convenience stores are around the hotel. The receptions are really nice. The room is clean and comfortable. Iam surely recommend Oak hotel to my friends who will visit Tokyo.
Location is great
Small room but ok
It looks more as a youth hostel than an hotel but this is far an advantage than a problem. The staff is great and extremely helpful with everything. Rooms are very small but fine
Peaceful location, nice staff
Run down place, crappy air conditioning, early check out
Great, friendly feel to the place - a bit like a hostel with loads of information about all sorts of useful things in reception (sights and activities, train timetables to the airport etc) and very helpful staff. Nice communal area with computers etc and a table to relax at - drinks machines too. The umbrellas you can borrow were very useful too! Really good wifi coverage. Good location near to Ueno JR station and Inarichio subway.
Our room was teeny tiny! I think this is fine for the price as it's very good value for central Tokyo but just to be aware when booking
Staff is great! General 'vibe' Location can't be better
Been to Tokyo twice before within last 4 years, and it's been Oak both times, and now again a 3rd. Value for money (and location) is just plain unbeatable. Oak offers renting out e-bicycles, and all of the frontdesk staff know English now.
I'm comparing this hotel to other, similarly-priced, business-travel/economy travel hotels... not to the Marriott, not to the Ritz-Carlton. First of all, the staff is super friendly and helpful. When my friend had to check out early, they were gracious enough to refund a portion of his stay which was totally unexpected. Decent English and a willingness to give all the help they could just made the staff a lovely experience. The availability of a (free!) washer is great, but the dryer really is useless. To be fair, the staff tells you the dryer is useless when you check in and gives directions to a nearby laundromat in case you just gotta have a dryer for some reason. But let's be honest - a person awesome enough to be staying in this kind of hotel is bringing clothes that will line dry. Amirite? I'm so right. Our ensuite bathroom was comically small for this 6' 250lb guy. This is way better than some of the efficiency hotels we've stayed in, some of which fall under 'hilariously small bathrooms' or even 'ridiculously small bathrooms'... it is small but the water pressure and heat is good, the toilet is useable, and you don't necessarily have to do yoga beforehand to get limbered up enough to go in there and take care of business. The hotel was clean, the bed was firm as any typical Japanese hotel, and I have no complaints about that. The best part of the place is the location. VERY short walk to a subway line and various restaurants and convenience stores. Best of all, it's only about a 10 minute walk to Ueno and Oyokocho, which are possibly my favorite parts of Tokyo. All in all, if you're on a budget (Or just being Frugal in your accommodations), and are okay with the size of the rooms and bathroom, I think this is a fine hotel for you.
The mini-split AC system in my room worked plenty well, but my friend said the one in his room was only so-so. Only one (Free) washer meant that using the thing took ninja-like timing. But still, it was free. Walls are a bit thin and if a neighbor got noisy you would hear it for sure. Signs are posted to stay quiet after 11pm, but obviously some people are inconsiderate.
Cleanliness, friendly, helpful and informative counter staff.
The bathroom is too small, kept knocking against the wall if move too much.
staff was very friendly, spoke good English. we had to book last minute, so we were happy to have found something this central.
the mattresses were very hard and uncomfortable. like anywhere in Japan, the bathroom was tiny - but also a bit rundown.
Very accessible and near to station and convenience store. Staff speak fluent english.
Only one washing machine available and is limited for use until 12.00 midnight.
Easy to walk to train station
Very friendly and helpful staff. Good location n good price. Well equipt kitchen. I will definitely come back :)
It was a nice place to stay, close to everything in Tokyo. Staff are good English speakers.
Service, price, friendly staff, clean room.
Be prepared for small rooms.
Wonderfully helpful staff. Great location - close to museums and wonderful Ueno Park. 20 minute walk to the temples and atmosperic laneways of Asakusa. Great food and markets. close to major railway station means ease if access toJR loop line, subways and access to Shinkasen.
Noisy! Ask for a room away from the first floor or you'll be kept up late and woken up early. Bed was comfortable and bathroom small, but both were fine. Water dropping down from ceiling while trying to sleep not so great.
Good location, lovely &helpful staffs.worth every penny!
Nice hotel in general, stuff speaks good English.
It was not mentioned on the Booking.com website, that you have to leave a key deposit (1000 Yen cash only). I was lucky that I had cash with me, otherwise I don't know. There is also a deposit for plug adopters (1000 Yen, cash only). Closest subway station is not Ueno as mentioned on the website, but the next one on the orange line.
