- Location is very good, very convenient to take the bus or subway; - Supermarket Fresco is cross the street
- Most of the time, the WIFI connection was weak
The hotel has an amazing location that was walking distance to two major shopping/food areas, Shinkyogoku Street and the Kawaramachi shopping area. If you continue your walk, you will also hit the river which crosses into Gion, the Geisha District. So much to see & do within walking distance! The amenities of the hotel are great and beyond the basic budget hotel. A very comfortable stay. There's also a 711 nearby for any ATM runs or late night snacks.
I reserved a non-smoking room but when I arrived, my room smelled very strongly of smoke. When I first called down to ask if I had been placed in the wrong room, they told me to turn on the fan & use a febreeze type spray to mask the smell. It took 3 phone calls & 2 room visits by the staff before I was moved to another room. Once I was in a non-smoke smelling room, my stay was fantastic!
Large 4-person room Separated bathing area, toilet seat and basin Car rental company just next door, very convenient for car rental
The room is small and doesn't value in the price
Housekeeping was good.
Hard to connect to the hotel wifi. There was no air conditioning. Only heat. The room was stuffy unless you open the windows. Felt that our safety has been compromised as there was a ledge with hand rails outside the room that allow people to walk and maybe climb in.
breakfast and location
wifi almost not present
The location was great. It was right in the middle of Kyoto with great access to many bus lines, subway lines, and just a stop from the main Kyoto station. There were restaurants close by as well. The breakfast was decent. It was not a very American breakfast, but had some options. They do watch your bags for you if you arrive early or depart and want to leave your bags for a day. They also offer umbrellas to borrow.
The wifi didn't work in the room most of the time. When it did work it was very slow. The room was very hot and was not adjustable. This meant that throughout the night we had to open and close a window to keep a constant temperature. The room was VERY small and Incredibly expensive for such rustic accommodation.
Comfy bed, hotel was just 4 blocks away from the subway.
The staff weren't as friendly as expected.
The Smile Hotel was clean and comfortable with an excellent breakfast and wifi. The location on Shijo, the main shopping street, was hard to beat. It is served by multiple bus lines and within an easy walk of the subway and the Hankyu train line. There is a convenience store a few steps away and a food market across the street.
The room had no drawers for keeping anything and no closet. There were two pegs on the wall with hangers to serve that purpose. I was there for five nights and would have liked more storage.
Good location. Walking distance to subway train.
Price is a high. Wrong location found in google map, by searching with its name.
Although we only stayed at Smile Hotel one night, it was a very comfortable place to relax and see the heart of Kyoto. There were a lot of great restaurants nearby and sites to see. The room was a good size with the wifi connection being the fastest we've had in our 3 week stay in Japan. We really enjoyed our stay at smile hotel.
Location (2 minute walking distance to a bus stop, 10 minute to a subway station and close to a FamilyMart supermarket)
Wifi signal in my room was poor
Room to hot without control
The breakfast was terrible. It is served in a ballroom of the past; stepping inside is like time warping back to some 1970s American high school prom, complete with questionable gold table trimming and mothballed light fittings. Instead of serving 1000 random foods and condiments, breakfast would be much better with a few simpler things done well. Other than that, we found the WI-FI terribly patchy, and overall that this hotel was quite poor value for money. Naturally Kyoto is a tourist Mecca in Japan in Autumn/Spring, but seriously spend a bit more money and enjoy your stay here that little bit more.
The location was relatively close to the subway station, but if you are with big backpacks is a good 10 minutes walk. The hotel was clean and it had a good variation for breakfast
The room was a bit small, especially for tall people. I wouldn't recommend a small double bed either, since it is a bit crammed.
Centrally located, near subway and major bus lines (city bus is cheap and easy to use to go to most tourist sites). Convenience and grocery stores nearby. Very clean rooms, good breakfast (esp for price), friendly staff.
WiFi in room is sporadic.
A very helpful staff. Rooms are Japanese small, but clean and comfortable. Don't bring big luggage as there is no much space in the room. Staff speaks ok English and that's what you need in Kyoto
Had to wait for half an hour because check in is exactly at 3 pm and no second earlier
breakfast has good variety and repeated only every other day. rice and congee, bread, fish, vege, fruits are very nice. dining area comfortable with Carpenters singing in the background though a bit tiresome on the 3rd day.
wifi very unstable in the room, loss of wifi connection every minute, have to ask staff to adjust router
location with easy access to bus stops, subway station, to shopping centers etc
no english channel. there should at least one free english channel to watch whether it be all movies or news (without going to the pay-per-view setting)
Great location, room was well cleaned daily
You can't say that the room have wifi. They don't. The only signal you can get is from the lobby, and if you are lucky. Rooms are very very very small, although we expected that. Pillows are not confortable. Bath courtain was smelling mold.
Wonderful location, breakfast, wifi. Helpful smiling staff.
The location is so convinence, just 5-10 min. walk to train station and shopping area. Easy to find something to eat and supermarkets are nearby.
The room temperature control by the hotel, we can't adjust by ourselve except the heat. It was ok during night time but day time it's a bit hot.
Very nice location, 10 minutes to Shijo station and very cheap 24/7 shop (Fresco) on the opposite side of road.
I asked staff to divide payment to 2 different cards, they didn't understood me. Wi-Fi connection was poor.
