No bad experiences! But just an FYI, I usually leave my luggage unzipped for connivence and one day when I was emptying out my backpack, I noticed a bug (a beetle??) inside. So just a tip, keep your things zipped in general when sleeping at any hotels/hostels. Japan has a warm envirnment, so it's not surprise to find creepy crawlers inside the building, but just be aware of how you leave your items open!
I got the double bed room and stayed for 3 nights. The room was spacious enough for a solo traveler's luggage (one suitcase, a duffle bag, and a backpack). My room was right across from the bathroom/sink room, which was convenient. My room was located on the fourth floor, the hostel has an elevator and washer/dryer unit for use. This hostel is VERY close to Kyoto Station (~5 minute walk). Aeon mall (~15 minute walk). Super convienent, but other than the convienent store (~3 minute walk) and the restaurants inside of Kyoto Station and Aeon mall, finding food is not as easy as having a hotel located nearby to Teramachi St/Kawaramachi Dori, which has a lot more shopping, food, and closer to sightseeing options. Overall, I still enjoyed my experience at this Hostel because I wanted to base myself close to Kyoto Stations so I could easily travel to Nara, Osaka, Kobe, and Tokyo. The hostel is Very clean too! A community shower room might make you feel iffy and think of college dorms again, but the bathrooms and shower rooms were very clean! I am a female, so that's my experience. Free wi-fi and the hostel also has 3 desktop computers free for use too! The price I paid for 3 nights at this hostel was cheap compared to staying at a hotel!
