Score from 302 reviews Good
A 10-minute walk from JR Takayama Train Station brings guests to Yamano Iori, featuring public baths and meals with fresh seafood and beef. The Japanese rooms have traditional futon beds.
Score from 403 reviews Very good
The rooms were very big and very good value for money. It was only a 10 min walk from Hida no Sato the folk village. Also the Ryokan offered a free shuttle bus into town.
The communal bath was a little dated.
Clean and charming old architecture. Owner speaks reasonable English and give good advice. Surrounding is quiet and peaceful.
Location is out of main town. We drove and that helps to keep it convenient as main town is short 5 mins direct drive away.
Our family of 5 stayed at Ryokan Murayama during the Takayama autumn festival. The ryokan is owned by Murayama-san and his wife and they are the most accommodating hosts possible. We arrived at the train station earlier than the official pickup times but Murayama-san came and picked us up anyways. He also provided a shuttle service for the festival and even drove us to the train station early the next morning at no charge. The rooms and bathing facilities were clean, though it is an older building. Definitely recommend staying here.
The ryokan is a bit far from downtown Takayama.
Mr. Murayama was knowledgeable and helpful. The accommodations were comfortable and clean. Laundry facilities were a pleasant surprise.
Few food options in evening but no fault of the ryokan.
The location is very near to Hida Folk Village, Teddy Bear Museum by walk.
It would be better if the ryokan has open air natural onsen.
Traditional Japanese style ryokan with traditional facilities (onsen, tatami, Japanese dinner and breakfast available), quiet surroundings, really helpful shuttle bus from station to ryokan upon request
Located far out which was fine given the availability of the shuttle bus but not ideal for restaurants/exploring.
Loved the service...great food and value. Kids loved the Onsen after they first dipped their toes in....so nice to have a family room as well.
The place was a little tired in places...but it's a lot cheaper than other Ryokans in Takayama...Location is also an issue if you want to be near the town but you can offset that with taxi fares.
lovely rooms and staff, free shuttle bus, free book of discount vouchers, close to Hida museum
the only baths were public,no showers in the rooms. quite a distance from town so not alot of options for dinner
- Excellent services from staff including multiple free shuttle bus trips to town on daily basis. - Large, clean room and good hot spa
- Wi-fi frequently dropped off upstairs. Have to go down to ground floor for good connection.
Lovely room with view over Takayama. Free transport provided to the Autumn festival. Very good Japanese style accommodation with comfy futons and bedding. Large ensuite room with seperate toilet.
pros: real japanese ryokan style with baths and hot water on the corridor, fabulous dinner and breakfast
The stuff is very friendly and they picked me up from the bus station. They leave in the room nice traditional Japanese clothing for the public bath and for the night.
The room had a bad smell and I couldn't catch wi fi from it. I found myself standing in the hollway trying to get some reception. Also during the night there was no water at all at the taps. They fixed it only in the morning. The location is pretty far from the center and to come back at night wasn't convenient at all. Overall the place is very basic.
The Hida beef dinner - the presentation n the service was very good.
Would have better if there was a lift to all floors.
traditional ryokan experience Dinner and breakfast are pretty good Shuttle to the centre
bit far off the centre of takayama. Walking into the centre is not really an option
large room, views of Takayama good public bath
We stayed for 4 nights and had a really comfortable family room. Excellent and friendly service.
The location was a bit out of the town, but we walked it most days and then caught a taxi home which was very cheap. It was very picturesque and quiet with some lovely gardens and historic buildings nearby. The staff were all very friendly and the room was very large, with plenty of room for everyone. It was a really nice place and good value for a traditional ryokan, as they can be very expensive.
Nothing - we liked the place very much.
The helpful, no fuzz ataff.
Good value. Clean. The on-site indoor Onsen is great. Nice craft beer bar down the road and a cool little bakery on the way into town.
20+ minute walk into town if that bothers you....
The friendly owner offers pickup at the station, which was very convenient. Located short walk from the beautiful hida folk village. Had great stay with group of friends. Would recommend to anyone.
Can't believe the level of luxury considering the low price I paid. Doesn't feel like a budget place at all. Shuttle pick up from train stn, really excellent food, great service, nice little onsen bath. Yes, it's a bit far from town, but since I think that lends to the serenity, I wouldn't consider that a drawback. There's a tourist bus that runs frequently that stops very close to the hotel and will take you into town and back.
Location on the edge of town, near the folk village. We had a very nice quiet room. Service to town from hotel. Also bus came a block away.
Difficult for an old man to get out of his ryokan bed.
Mr. Murayama is a really nice person, very concerned about the guests. The room was really good, inclusive the yucata to use after spend some time in the owsen. Perfect!
The ryokan is a little bit far from the center os Takayama, but you can easily catch a bus or have a 30 min walk.
The dinner there was amazing traditional japanese food and so much of it. The hot tub was nice and the room and tea was great and spacious. The staff are so friendly and helpful with shuttle services into town umbrellas and even drying our shoes after being in the rain. Thank you so much
The hotel was a little bit run down and worn but it is still worth it ,
Room was very pleasant and very clean. Our host was very helpful and friendly. Dinner was delicious! Thoroughly recommend!
