Nothing much around the hotel unless you drive out.
Everything was amazing! The staff were very friendly and helpful, they arranged everything so perfectly. Picked us up and dropped us off when/where we wanted. The food was absolutely divine. They made everything vegetarian for us, an incredible feat since we seemed to be the only dining guests. They have 2 inside baths and 4 outside baths, that you can use privately. The setting is beautiful and the baths are large and luxurious. After the dinner they laid out our futon beds, which were the most comfortable we have had in Japan. It made us feel like we were on our honeymoon with their unmatched hospitality.
There isn't a single thing we would like to improve!
Best onsen, delicious dinner, friendly staff
Not comfortable with pillow
We love everything about Ryukeien. The garden is beautiful. The dinner was excellent, prepared with produce such as rice and mushrooms grown in the estate. There are a total of 5 private onsen areas - indoor and outdoor - which are very enjoyable.
Breakfast is good but lacks the wow factor of the dinner.
Great ryokan, a little bit outside of the town, but they will pick you up by car. Great private rotenburos, better then any we have tried in Kurokawa. Also the dinner and breakfast were wonderful, if we ever go back to Kurokawa we would definitely choose Ryukeien again.
A very charming family-run ryokan with fabulous outdoor onsens. This was the best ryokan during our onsen hopping trip. The Kaiseiki meals were served dish by dish in our rooms and were exceptionally delicious.
The onsen by the river, the food, the room and the futon (so comfy), staff were super nice
Many private pretty onsens!!!
Staff was very friendly and welcoming to foreigners, the dinner we had was amazing (lots of different things, beautifully arranged), you can have a private bath in one of the pretty wooden houses in the garden next to the river
The location is inconvenient if you don't have your own car. We were dependent on the staff to pick us up at the bus stop and drive us back to town. It's too far to walk. We were planning to walk around in our yakuta's at night from one onsen to the next as all the Japanese do but we didn't go because we didn't have transportation.
Service, Outdoor private onsens in front of the river...you don t want to leave
Basically nothing. The ryokan si a bit far from the city on foot but they get you from bus station
Excellent staff, Luxury private Onsen, Dinner is tasty and a lot. We have visited many place; Fukuoka, Kurokawa, Yufuin, Beppu, and stay over night in each city and my mom love to stay here the most.
Just mention that this ryokan is not located in Kurokawa city around 5 mins by car. However the hotel prepares free shuttle bus to Kurokawa city and need to book before.
The dinner was very delicious and the private onsen is my favourite - it is a actually better than the other onsens I tried out on the onsen street. Staff are very helpful and lovely. Look forward to staying at this place again!
It is not located in the main onsen street area. However they provide shuttle service to the bus station.
The staff was very friendly, the place cosy and clean, the food delicious. The onsens were just amazing with a river flowing just underneath. We have not found nicer rotemburo onsens in the whole of Kurokawa Onsen. Fabulous place!
friendly and helpful staff, superb food (completely different dinners on each of the three nights I stayed), intimate atmosphere and beautiful surroundings for the baths next to the river. Much nicer situation than the other ryokans in the middle of Kuorkawa. When I said I was leaving early in the morning and missing breakfast, the staff made up a bento box for me to take along.
smoking area should be insulated- there was a smell of stale smoke right through the ryokan; wi-fi in the rooms would be useful and easy to install.
We had such a lovely stay at Ryukeien and even though it was a splurge for us, we were so glad we decided to stay at this ryokan: the staff were incredibly kind and helpful, the private onsen were amazing, and the multi-course dinner was the best meal we had while travelling around Japan. They are located a little ways out from Kurokawa Onsen Town but we were thankfully shuttled around when we wanted to visit a nearby onsen and to return to Kurokawa proper. We would absolutely recommend Ryukeien to anyone looking to enjoy an authentic Japanese ryokan in an onsen town that is preferred over the more popular (and heavily-visited) Yufuin and Beppu.
Superb food, lovely setting, very friendly and helpful staff
- no internet connection in rooms - smoking area not screened off, so there was a smell of smoke throughout the ryokan
The staff were very helpful regarding our trip questions. The food was great. We like the three hot springs. Although it locates a little bit far from main street, they provide free pick up n drop off service to the bus station.
Really good deal! Private baths are big, free, and beautiful.
We had a wonderful stay, the room was great, the onsen was awesome, the diner was fabulous, and the personal, even if they didn't spoke lots of english , was very lovely and really nice.
This place was amazing! They met us at the bus stop and stored our luggage while we checked out other onsens. The dinner was fabulous and beautiful. The staff was really kind and helpful. Their English was very good. I highly recommend this place.
