Very nice hoster and great service. Convenient location to station which is also close to local superket and convenient store. Friendly recommend.
It was really good place to stay. Nice personel, good location. Amazing temple just few steps from hotel.
During my stay there (3 days) internet was avalible only on 1st day. Bit annoying if You want to use it.
Staff were friendly Clean Room decent size
Not the best value Staff could have been more helpful with diectections
Lovely staff, nice traditional Japanese room with tatami mats and mattresses.
Location was a bit far from most attractions and generally required taking a bus into Kyoto station to take another bus line elsewhere.
The hotel was an easy walk from the Kyoto train station, we were warmly greeted and settled. The room was small but sufficient and the bathroom/shower worked wonders. The breakfast (Western) gave us a great start every day and it was nice to have papers to stay up on the news. We thoroughly enjoyed the special meal offering (pasta down a slide, you've gotta try it). It opened the door to interacting with other guests too. Nice.
It was disappointing the Internet was down the whole weekend. We struggled to find a place for our bags, not a lot of floor space.
Staff was wonderful. So generous and accommodating. After asking for a cab to be called, they would walk us out, speak to the cab driver in Japanese to ensure desired location, and then wait until we drive off before going back in.
The Internet is only available in the lobby, which is nice to not be focused on the phone the whole visit, but I particularly would have liked it in the room as my sister back home was pregnant and I was checking on her a lot.
super location, nice stay, for japan standards cheap
Excellent location, welcoming staff, soothing ambience, everything one needs for a comfortable stay.
No wifi in the room, even though a modem was promptly lent. Patchy connectivity, which the staff explained, was being fixed.
We were very well received by a friendly hotel staff that is always available to help. The hotel is very clean and in a good condition.
The hotel lobby is also used as a dining area for taking breakfast. The breakfast is very poor and lacks variability. WiFi is paid extra and not included in the hotel room fee. The room is very hot so that we always had to connect the air condition.
The staff were fabulous, friendly and would go out of their way to help you. we really liked the location as it was an easy walking distance from the train station, however, we didn't feel we were in a high tourist area and could experience Kyoto lifestyle because of this. They had a great local map that helped us with eateries which was also very helpful.
Kitchenette facilities. We missed Western food and being able to do a bit of home cooking in out 10 days trip was good. Excellent and very helpful staff.
Booked a western-style room. Room and bathroom were incredibly clean and very comfortable. Fridge was useful for keeping fruit and juice. Staff were very helpful at check-in and check-out for excursions (we had planned very little ahead of time). (Japanese) breakfast was solid. I like that this place is not dead in the centre of town - means I could sleep in peace and got great value for money! Would stay here again without hesitation.
Nothing. As others say, it can be a touch difficult to find at night...but not really if you have a decent sense of direction.
good location, good service, good room size
Everything, this is a gem of a place. Our room was a reasonable size for Japan and equipped with a fridge, kettle and sink as well as the bathroom. The communal area was also quite sizeable and it was a very friendly place. Toko was lovely - so welcoming and helpful, she greeted us with a cup of tea and seemed genuinely interested in what we were doing. I would definitely stay here again.
My mother and I spent almost a week in Kyoto after bustling Tokyo and charming Nikko. It took a bit of navigating to get to Kaede as it's located on a small street but thank God for Google Maps, we found our way there from Kyoto station, which is a good 15 to 20 minutes walk. We arrived in the middle of the day and it was hot as hell, and we had just lugged our luggage from the station to the ryokan. We arrived a bit early (1:!5pm) and check-in time was 3pm. The reception warmly welcomed us and offered us cold water, which was extremely welcome considering the circumstances. This set the tone for the rest of our stay. The staff are very friendly and offered plenty of advice on what to do, where to go, and where to eat. The room itself is a thing of beauty. We had a twin room and it was a good size. This is an updated, modernised ryokan without losing its Japanese charm. We LOVED IT. Our window faced a light-well that looked down into a mini-Zen Garden. So, it was gorgeous when we opened the window in the morning light. Breakfast wasn't included with our room but a Japanese or Western breakfast set is available at JPY800, which are both good. But of course, I went for the Japanese every time (very good by the way) except for one morning when I just wanted to try the Western set, which is decent enough. Accessibility-wise, there are bus-stops surrounding here and the buses go anywhere in Kyoto. Otherwise, just walk. Kyoto is easy enough.
One minor thing that did bother me was the thin-ish doors. Whenever my neighbours came back, I could hear them talking, taking their keys out, opening the door, closing the door. But it was perfectly fine once they were inside. And good thing my neighbours were quite quiet anyway.
very beautiful area, close to the train station where you can get any bus you want to explore kyoto, and close to an amazing temple. the staff was excellent and spoke english quite well. The room was very cute and clean, and spacious for japanese standards.
It was a very friendly and inviting atmosphere, which the staff created. The recommendations provided by the staff were really helpful. The rooms were modern and very clean, but also with many traditional Japanese elements. The breakfast was very good for starting the day.
The location required a good amount of walking due to limited transportation in the immediate area, though subways (Gojo station), rail (Kyoto Station) and buses were all a walkable distance.
Hotel newly renovated, very comfortable and "design-like" room. Extremely clean
Staff at checkin were not very friendly. Room at last floor very hot and air conditioning was not able to cool it down when we arrived in the evening The room was really beautiful however it had no places to hang things or to place your stuff (very small closet) The location is not optimal. It takes at least 30 min by bus to get to main locations in Kyoto, however the area was really nice
Very comfortable room - quite spacious for Japanese standards. Excellent staff - very friendly and spoke great English. Close to Kyoto Station.
The location was a bit out of 'central' Kyoto, which meant that it was at least a 20 minute walk to get to the main restaurant and bar areas. However, as there are so many sights to see around Kyoto (widespread), the Ryokan was still a very convenient home base.
Personnel, service, place
Actually position is good, not excellent. Staffs have great attitudes and kind, we got a feel of comfortable. Room is small, but excellent. Room is very clean, charmingly decorated, and All I need is in the room. If you want to stay japanese-style room by reasonable price, I strongly recommend.
Location is quite close to kyoto station, easy walk and easy to find using 2 nearby temples as landmarks on the map. One block off a main thoroughfare, and quiet. Staff speaks very good English, and are very helpful in liasing with other hotels or businesses in Japan, in our case, a nearby brewery to arrange a tour! Very helpful in all matters. Breakfast is a tad on the expensive side (though very convenient), I would recommend having the traditional Japanese breakfast at least once for the experience. The traditional rooms are quite spacious, and the lobby has a very social setting. Would definitely stay again!
Traditional Japanese beds are not for the uninitiated! Very firm, though the quilts are ample. No in-room wifi can make any online planning or email home a more social affair using the lobby wifi.
Excellent place with, very cosy and beautiful, with a good sense of traditional Japaneese atmosphere! A bit expensive, though..
a little bit expensive.
The room was spacious compared to a lot of Japanese hotels & even Ryokans. It was tastefully decorated & comfortable. It was a good 10 minutes walk from Kyoto station. Was easy to locate by simply following the directions from internet. Staff were helpful. We didnt take their breakfast option. Found a Lawson convenient store just round the corner for breakfast. It was convenient that the Ryokan sold day bus tickets. It was a cheap way to travel around the city. Will recommend this ryokan.
There wasnt a lot of restaurants nearby. But with the day bus pass, we went back to Kyoto station for dinner.
Staff were supremely helpful.
