Easy access. Kappa bridge is right in front of hotel. Great view from our room.
French dinner course was not good and onsen facility is old and small.
Triple room was very nice with sitting area & view of the river & mountains. Dinner was included in our package & it was very nice (except for the risotto course). Expensive because of the location but we really enjoyed our stay despite terrible wet weather due the the passing of the typhoon.
The hotel is located perfectly. Views from the room window were excellent. Very nice food.
Friendly and courteous staff. Excellent food. Great location reachable by public transport. Excellent view.
The place is not well looked after, despite they let you take off your shoes and provide you with slippers, the carpet is old and stained. A little overpriced for the appearance of the building.
Location is superb
The hotel and its staff were odd. I paid £300 per night (including dinner and breakfast for two). The food was disappointing and was the worst food I've had on 5 visits to Japan. The hotel required checkout at 10am and could not check us in until 3pm - not sure why it takes 5 hours to clean a room. The manager was fairly brusk and spoke very poor English. We were late for check-out by 1hr 30 mins on a Sunday at the end of the season (they had 3.5 hrs until check-in) and the manager acted as if we had desecrated his hotel. Given we were then handing over £600 for two nights stay it seemed a bit uncalled for. Don't bother staying here - stay in one of the onsen towns down the valley and take the bus in/out.
Best location in the region. Wonderful tatami room, fully-equipped, very spacious and comfortable, with fantastic mountain views. Good food for a remote place.
Great view! Only way to visit the Kamikochi 上高地 Great way to have morning walk!
Dinner can skip
The hotel deserved it's three star rating. Staff were polite and the hotel was clean. It's rates are expensive but this is probably due to it's fabulous location which is ideal for a few days walking in the area. It was an onsen which is open all nught which is good as after dinner there is nowhere to go in the area as it is remote. It isn't a huge onsen and it can be quite full with only 2 hair drying facilities but I didn't find this an issue as I just went back to my room to dry my hair. Our room on the 3rd floor had lovely views overlooking the mountains. We had a half board option and some of the food was a little bizarre but overall the hotel is what it says in the tin. A standard hotel in a great location. We would stay again.
Everything was as expected. It is expensive but so are all the hotels in this area.
Hotel close to the bus station and next to the bridge. Staff was attentive.
I suppose the location is worth the money... No, it is a pretty decent hotel, maybe one of the nicest in terms of room size, style and view (river and mountains!) I've been to. also the Japanese bath was really nice and staff very helpful. However, the 9pm curfew was somewhat ridiculous - doors were looked AND all lights in the hotel lobby (only place with wifi...) switched off. Lobby area lacks some charm in general - old and no comfy seats. In a hostel this would never even slightly bother me but I paid the same for one night here as I would have for 6 nights in a hostel, so....But, once in a life I suppose, staying in kamikochi directly at the river may be worth it.
Curfew and closure of of public areas at 9pm. Lobby area could easily be so much nicer. Food was ok, but fully Japanese would be much better (poor attempt on a risotto that was cold and barely distinguishable from mashed potatoes...)
Spectacular and breathtaking view of the alps from outside our window! The place is great for very relaxing vacation. Nature tripping during the day and lots of rest at night time. Would love to go back there again!
The food was great but lacked variety since we stayed for 2 nights and was served almost the same dishes during the entire stay.
location nice restaurant nice view
restaurant closes at 9pm the reception do not borrow phone charger to your room :/
location is at the cuppa bridge where is beautiful popular view
The staff is not compomise 20 minuets late about check out and blames customer
Best location view from the room
Excellent location with amazing views
The staff - they were great. The things they do to make you feel comfortable are remarkable. One afternoon, it suddenly rained heavily. A group of about 6 or 7 guests came through the door all drenched. One of the things the staff did on their own accord was to hand the guests slippers in exchange for their wet shoes. When the guests had gone up to their rooms, the staff cleaned, dry and air their shoes. The next morning, the shoes were all lined up ready for the guests!
Nothing really ....
newly furnished western room with mountain view
very expensive and totally unflexible staff kaiseki food ok but not great, breakfast too early
Location was a dream. View was a dream too!!
The view from the mountain facing windows is spectacular, the traditional rooms are fantastic (for a tourist) You get to wear your yukata robes around the hotel and to dinner...the staff members are very helpful and polite even by Japanese high standards. The location is at the start of various mountaineering trails, and beside the river.
The location is so good that there is a monetary cost to pay...worth it though
Location, location, location! This hotel is right at the base of the Kappabachi bridge in central Kamikochi. The views from the third floor are stunning looking out towards the mountains and river. Hotel staff is exceptionally friendly and speaks English to some degree. The price is right considering the location.
The facility is dated and the carpets have seen better days. The public bath is miniscule and was crowded.
The food at the hotel was consistently terrible. We didn't think it was possible to have a bad meal in Japan. The flavours didn't match, the food was either too cold (salads) or lukewarm (meats and tempura) or too dry (over cooked fish). The beef was only 50 percent edible with more gristle than at a $10 steak restaurant in Australia. Added to that the Japanese guests appeared to be served a completely different menu.
