Nice room, beatuful location on the river
You weren't allowed to look at the river or spend time in the beautiful downstairs unless you paid a lot more for breakfast. Didn't feel welcome
Location in one of the best areas. Very nice staff
Hardly any English, no nice conmon area. Small onsen
quiet, lovely rooms and nice communal bath (gender segregated).
The room is very clean even though it feels kind of aged. They change the bedsheets everyday and the futon beds are comfortable. The location is great, it is only one bus station or just 10 mins walk away from Shijo Kawaramachi. You can see Yasaka Pagoda and Kiyomizu Temple from the onsen. The staff can speak excellent english and they are very willing to assist you to get around Kyoto. They are very friendly as well, by the end of the stay they remember my name.
Fair price even for the top floor suite. Very warm and friendly staff.
The price for dinner, almost a hundred bucks a head, was a bit much. We ate outside for half the price and similar quality. Poor English.
We stayed in a tatami room with ensuite bathroom as well as toilet. I found the futons very comfortable but my fiancé was mildly uncomfortable as he found lying on his side more difficult due to the firmness of the futon. The room was very spacious. It was nice to receive the green tea in room. The room was very pretty with bamboo walls and ceiling and paper window shields. We had breakfast both days included which was a very large traditional japanese sampler type breakfast - almost like a large bento or degustation. We are fairly adventurous with food and ate most of it, but ensure you are happy with predominantly fish breakfast if choosing to book breakfast. I highly enjoyed the Onsen experience and actually used this as my primary bathing method whilst staying 2 nights. We were lucky being off season there weren't many guests and I had the spa to myself each time, as did my fiancé. The 5th floor one would be fine for communal bathing but the 7th floor one was very tiny and would struggle to fit more than 3-4 people. Both had lovely views of the river as did the restaurant. The location was pretty good, 500m walk to Gion district & shops and nishiki food market. Only 1.5km walk (and view of) one of the most important temples. Nearest train station only 350m away. Woul definitely recommend this accommodation to friends, I think 2-3 days would be enough time here. Staff we're lovely and helpful and spoke better English than my jaoanese, we communicated fine.
Other guests who smoked in lobby, so no smoke free area to hang out in communal areas. No parks/grounds area to hang out in yukata clothing. Bring own flip flops/slippers if you have bigger than size 8 women's shoes or you can wear the men's ones which are not much bigger.
location is very nice, next to the river with beautiful back alleys around, lots of restaurants close by
there was a cockroach in the bath onsen is quite small everything is a little bit used/outdated
we can only use in the first floor
excellent location for a family of 5, great taste of traditional Japanese accommodation with hot baths
There's no internet in room.
Location is great
The old carpet is dusty
We were not told that they close on Monday from noon onwards. We had to find lockers at the train station to put our luggages as our flight was in the evening.
The staff, onsen, breakfasts and room were all excellent! The hotel is close to Gion where you will find thousands of amazing restaurants! Can't wait to go back to Tazuru
That we had to leave
Location and service were very good, situated in Gion, a very beautifull neibourhood. Also enjoyed very much de public bath on the 5th flor, it was a very good experience. Staff were very nice even though their english is very limited.
We had the typical breakfast included in the price. If you are not into new food experiences and just want some toast and coffee in the morning maybe you should pass this experience
Beautiful area but not totally ryogan , its upstairs of restaurant . Location easy to take bus from kyoto station
cleanliness, comfortable for sleep, tea in room, close to train station, helpful staffs, public bath and Japanese style food
no internet in room
Kind staff / good location
Poor value for money.
The beauty of the facilities and the authentic atmosphere, the location.
Lovely quiet location, just a couple of minutes' cycle to downtown Gion area. The staff were polite and extremely accommodating, even placing necessary phone calls on our behalf from the from desk. We could not believe how beautiful the full Japanese breakfast was! Delicious too. The 5th floor public baths were lovely, especially with the windows open at night for a view of the river.
The tap water was not nice to drink, so it would've been nice to have a bottle of drinking water provided, although to be fair we were advised to stock the fridge with our own beverages so this was our own fault :)
Tazuru ryokan is well managed and clean. It is located near the water and on a picturesque street close to nice little restaurants. The onsen experience is also very nice. The rooms were spacious with and they provide you with traditional japanese yukatas, getas, and various toiletries. The futon beds and covers are fluffy and very comfortable.
No wifi inside the room (but available in lobby). Rooms are slightly aged, but in good condition.
Perfect in every way. Staying at this ryokan was a wonderful experience, and highly recommended for anyone travelling through Gero. The hotel is family run and it really shows: the staff here were warm, kind and friendly and on hand to go the extra mile in making our stay in this osen town an unforgettable experience. The rooms themselves are full of character and very large by Japanese standards. The onsen (bathing pool) was the best we have ever found in a hotel. We were sad to leave and will definitely be coming back. In a nutshell, the hotel is amazing, affordable and brilliant if you're an English speaker looking for a warm welcome in a traditional setting.
Ryokan style rooms, onsen and Japanese tea in the room
There was cockroach in the bathroom
Had a nice stay at Tazuru. After a day walking and cycling around Kyoto it's a real treat to take a long bath and enjoy the view. The breakfast is a real feast and just gorgeous. Good location especially if your travelling during Hanami season. Good service is shown by how the staff handles problems. We had a problem with the refriderator (strong toxic smell) which the staff take good care off. They gave us a new and better room.
It's not cheap and aimed for western travellers, but this doesn't have to be a problem.
