We had wonderful three nights at Tengallonhat! The house is conveniently located next to the bus stop and for hiking around Norikura. The rooms were nice and comfy, and the owners did everything possible to make us feel at home. There are three wonderful hot tubs available for the guests for private use. An absolute highlight was the dinner, with three-four perfectly arranged courses. We rarely ever had better steaks! Delicious! A warmhearted thank you to our hosts, we really enjoyed our stay! Arigatooo!

We really enjoined our stay here, the staff was amazing and very helpful, the owner speaks good English and let us used her kitchen and cook with her. The Lodge is very nice with 3 onsen like baths(one outdoor) and a river just outside the window.

The house is very spacious and really feels like home. Its facilities are plentiful and well maintained. The owners are incredibly friendly and do everything within their power to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. Don't forget to enjoy one of their home-cooked dinners, it was the best food we had in Japan! Would definitely stay again, without a doubt!

I came here with my mother who was visiting Japan for the first time. We had run into some bad weather so we were relieved to find ourselves in a warm and cozy place where the owner welcomed us in perfect English and went out of her way to take care of us. She drove us to a nearby restaurant, recommended us a beautiful nearby hiking spot, and even drove us to the bus stop on our last morning. The breakfast was delicious and the shared space was chic and inviting. The wooden bathtub was nice, especially as you could use it privately without a reservation. It seems like it would be the ideal spot to escape Japan's humid summer or see some real snow in the winter. Overall, it was a fantastic experience.

This is my favorite hotel so far during our trip in Japan. This is a lodge in the mountains, so don't expect luxury (we had shared bathrooms) or a traditional japanese ryokan-like hotel. That said, the lodge was clean and the beds were comfortable. What made this place special was the cozy atmosphere and beautiful location in the mountains. Kamikochi is nearby and you can also visit onsen. The lodge has a nice outdoor bath (wooden hot tub) next to the mountain stream behind it. The hardworking female owner is extremely nice (she offered to drive us to a nearby restaurant so that we could drink alcohol with our meal) and speaks English very well. Rent a car in Matsumoto (Times Car Rental has an English website and affordable rates) and enjoy the mountains for a couple of days. Highly recommended!
