This is a real gem of a place. We stayed in the traditional Japanese room with tatami mattress bed for 2 people and a gorgeous view across the valley and on suite bathroom. The price was a fraction of what you would pay for similar in a Ryokan. We had the breakfast and evening meal a few times and that was very lovingly done and presented. The staff were very professional and they were also creative. One evening they arranged transport to see a local dance theatre "Kagura" in the town. Another evening people were invited to join in the local 5 a side football match. We were also invited out for nightwalks to see fireflies. All very spontaneous, relaxed and friendly. Equally important, there was no pressure to join in and you could choose to be very private and quiet there too if you so wished. This is the only Youth Hostel I have been too which has its own hot spring baths on site. One for women, one for men, carved into the hillside out of the rock. A lovely way to end the day, floating in hot water listening to discretely piped, soothing jazz music. A great place to stay for a few dasy if you really want to unwind.
The beautiful landscape up on the hill, lovely host family, yummy breakfast and the night walk ^_^
The twin private room is quite small and I hope that there will be some private bathroom.
nice view so clean super quiet onsen
dinner and breakfast is pricey compare from what you get if you don't have car ,it hard to come and go.
If you want to experience Japanese lifestyle, this is the one you should choose. Do add breakfast and dinner. * There is free shuttle to Yufuin Stn at 8:20am. There are 2 buses to the hostel @4:48 and @6:38. * After dinner, the host suggests 10~15mins long walk. Every Friday, he asks to go for soccer in community gym. This would be great chance to mingle with locals. * Beers and light snack is available with reasonable price. After enjoying hot spring, a can of beer will expel your stress.
Too close to the road, noisy during sleep.
The whole place feels comfortable, clean, and welcoming, and it was a great retreat from the masses of tourists in the town centre. We were two people in a two-bed room, so we didn't share with others, but the atmosphere in the common areas was calm and communal. Highly recommended.
I didn't dislike anything, really - but I gave 'location' a good, only because the distance from the town centre might be slightly inconvenient for someone without a car (we had one). It's not that terribly far, though!
-Hot springs -Super clean -Calm atmosphere -Reasonable price -Breakfast -Night view in common place -Farewell song when leaving!
-No complain...I even enjoyed the distance from downtown!
Staff are friendly.
the bath and spa are small and dirty. The hotel is located far away from the city. Only take the car to reach there. Nothing to see and do at night.
- Good place for relax - Staff very friendly and good entertainer (they sing the songs for guest too) - Dinner and breakfast are valuable for pay. They serve as japanese style, good for foreigner to learn the culture. - Although its the budget hotel but all guest can use ONSEN
quiet far from the city, it not safe to walk in the night time
The location is absolutely beautiful! The staff members are friendly. The hostel master took us on a tour to a nearby mountain for an unforgettable night view of Yufuin. Also, I'll never forget leaving the hostel to the managers singing "Country Road, Take me Home."
In my life, the hostel was the best place to stay.
Great friendly staff - very good cooking
The hostel-prepared meals & the send-off song they sang to all leavers (Country Road, Take Me Home of course!)
loved it！The owner family are so adorable, I really wish I could stay a bit longer. The view in living room is great. And the breakfast! I can have it all day!
A little bit chilling in the bathroom.
Great atmosphere. Great evening view. 24 hour onsen. wow the best! good food. the egg is the best taste. lots of links with music as you can see guiter everywhere. owner will singa departing song that makes everyone surprised and happly!! will defineitly come back!!
15 min walk from JR station not so convenient for the shoplhic.
It is like a Japanese traditional guesthouse not a hostel. The staff is very kind and helpful. They can speak English. Breakfast and dinner are homemade and so delicious. When we checked out, the staff sang a song called 'Take me home, country road' by John Denver. It was impressive.
The Location. It is located at the middle of the hill. It take nearly 1 hour to the downtown on foot. So call taxi is necessary. only 10 minute and less than 1,000 JPN.
Though the hostel is a little far from the yufuin station, but there is a bus to there at around 5 pm.Because CYRH has its' own onsen, you can go there earilier to enjoy it. The master can ride you to train station the next morning. Hostel is clean and provides snacks and drinks selling service. The mater is friendly and funny,he even sang "country road" for us when we leaving.
The hostel is very cosy. We love the dining and lounge area. Beautiful night scene and overlooking the town.
Wish the ladies toilet on 2f had heated seat like the first floor.
Very clean and cozy. More than I ever expected. Dinner and breakfast are good. Nice view from dining room. Strong Wifi signal in room. And very friendly staffs. They sang me a song when I check out. Very impressive!!
Far from station. But they will drive you to the station everyday at 8:20.
Friendly and attentive staff, homely atmosphere
The room and food were really great. The place is scrupulously clean! The view from the common room window is lovely especially at night. It is a great place to meet other travellers.
The owners obviously take a lot of care in what they provide but their systems are very rigid and as a consequence I often did not feel very welcome or relaxed. For instance, they offer a courtesy bus to town at 8.20am every morning and one morning when I did not take it and instead sat in the common room, the owner made it clear that she expected me to go out. I think guests should know before they book that they cannot use the common areas, if this is the expectation of them. Also the seating arrangements at dinner are preset, I think it would enhance sociability if the guests could choose their own seat for dining.
