Good location, beautiful facility, friendly staff. This is my 2nd visit in 2 years and the owner remembers me!
the bathroom and shower room is tiny, which is understandable considering the history of that facility.
The ambience of the simple Japanese house.
A small, comfortable, and quiet accomodation within walking distance to kiyomizu temple, ponto-cho (nitelife n izakaya), shijodori (shopping).
The area, the house itself was soo cute and traditional and the room was beautiful. The shower and toilets were good and the owner Rico is very nice and helpfull. She can tell a lot over kyoto and Japan and can help you with many questions. She is very caring for her guests
The house rules where sometimes a bit too much for me. If you do not know this in advance it can be overwhelming to have a timeslot and rules about silence etc after certain hours. But if you know this in advance, this location is great. The owner was great, but for me sometimes it feels to much if you have your mother around.
Traditional Japanese House, the host is friendly
Location is hard to find, not a hotel, share bathroom, no shower or hot water after 11pm, heater is not working well during winter time
Nicely decorated traditional Japanese house. The house owner, Rico, is very enthusiastic and helpful! Highly recommend !
The welcome and service provided by Toshi is excellent and friendly. The location is very good and quiet.
Enjoyable experience of a traditional Japanese house means toilets and bathrooms are small and noise from other guests can be disruptive
location is perfect, house is cozy and traditional
internet was good at times, really slow of non working sometimes
Rico was gracious and welcoming. We enjoyed the neighborhood and spotted two geisha while walking at night in nearby Gion. With Rico's encouragement I tried my first sento (public bath). We stayed in the Western style room on the second floor - the beds were very comfortable. We were advised to "be like a ninja" when climbing the wooden stairs so as not to disturb other guests. We would stay here again if visiting Kyoto.
The rooms housing the toilets were very, very small.
Right in the middle of the main attractions, it was great to stay in a traditional guest house in such a traditional borough of Kyoto. Rico was a great help to plan our trips, Rooms were nice and clean, to share the bathroom was not a problem even when it was fully booked, bicycles can be rented
The host is quite friendly and reasonable when I get to chat with her more. She is very helpful providing information and made it very clear with the house rules when I checked in. Will definitely stay there again.
I have stayed for one night so it was too short to tell. But you will definitely need to wait until people go bed to actually fall asleep.
Rico went above and beyond in order to have a comfortable and pleasant place. She really helped to direct and guide where to go and how to Kyoto. Not far from the housethere is a neighborhood Onsen -So it really possible to experience the process of real life in Japan. The rooms in ground floor are large and spacious and have garden. The atmosphere pleasant and makes your stay in Kyoto special.
Owner very nice and friendly
Walls to thin, hard to sleep because you hear evertyhing, wood floors noisy. Bed not comfortable, matress are old and bad to sleep in. No breakfast .
Rico is a very hospitable and helpful host. This is basically a Japanese house where the rooms are rented, not a hotel with Japanese style rooms. Result is atmosphere combined with a spotless and quite big room. Especially nice was that it's in a quiet street allowing to sleep using natural ventilation instead of having to rely on airco. Slept very well.
Toilets are a bit small but hardly a real problem.
Large rooms; the ones on the upper floor have a view, the ground floor ones face a small garden.
The walls and floors are very thin and it feels like too many rooms have been crammed into the building to the detriment of public space (no kitchenette, no common living room, waiting times for the shower). The curfew felt unnecessary. The wifi was very unstable.
Location and staff very helpfull (good tips regarding the best way to visit the city). Cozy place
Not the best insonorisation. But the silence schedule between 11 pm to 8 am atenuated the problem a bit
Lovely rooms, and Rico, the owner is very helpful and friendly. Location is quiet central though a little walk to the nearest station.
Good location, short walk to the main part of town. Friendly staff, Toshi and Rico are great hosts. Cosy local feel.
Large room, helpful advice from staff/owner, location is excellent, very happy and pleasant staff, wonderful environment, good bathroom, lovely building and setting, quiet location.
a bit too much rules
The staff was amazing, sat us down on three separate ocassions and helped us with navigating the city, finding a spot for dinner, sightseeing, etc. Beautiful old home that was a great first ryokan experience. The location was good as well - metro was 10 min walk away and all sights in Gion within 20 minute walk. Would highly recommend this to other first-timers to Kyoto!
The staff were amazing - incredibly helpful, full of loads of information and advice about the area and with a huge amount of resources available to browse too - they really cared about your stay. We had a lovely large room for the price, overlooking the zen garden. The shared bathroom was very well cleaned and maintained
Nothing. One thing to note is that they only accept cash payments but this was totally fine for us
I have a very nice experience when i staying here for 3 days. The house is 100% japan style, the room is very comfortable with a beautiful small garden. I've already recommend my friends this sweet place.
Very welcoming and helpful owner and staff and well positioned. This is a no frills (no food, shared bathroom facilities) place to sleep with a Japanese feel to it. If this is what you are looking for in this expensive city then it is ideal.
Excellent location with a friendly and helpful host. Clean, welcoming and home-like. I was traveling by myself so it was nice to feel like I had someone looking out for me. I liked the shower, too.
This didn't bother me too much, but there are a lot of rules--being very quiet all the time, curfew. When I watched a movie on my computer at night I used earbuds because I felt like it might be too loud at regular volume. Just so you know what to expect.
