Perfect location in the heart of Gion with shops, food, beautiful temples and shrines in walking distance. The ryokan is lovely and the staff very helpful and friendly. The food they serve is amazing!

A hidden door at the foot of the Yasaka shrine in Kyoto leads to a flight of rock stairs.... This was an amazing cultural experience. It allows the visitor a trip to another time with a tradition Japanese Inn (Royokan) served with an exquisitely prepared kaiseki banquet and large Japanese ( or Western style) breakfast. It was expensive but well with the experience that we'll always remember. The wait staff and the lovely woman who welcomed us to our rooms were wonderful, friendly and spoke good English. If you are open to a unique cultural experience, you won't regret it! That the time was short.

This ryokan has a wonderful atmosphere and design. The rooms and the service were excellent. I would highly recommend it. But it is expensive. My rating for value for money is based on two people travelling. It was difficult to locate initially! Also I was a sole traveller, but was happy to pay the full price for a double room. But I ate in one evening (delicious) and at the end of my stay they billed me for the room plus dinner that night. So I paid over £100 for one dinner!!!

Dinner was good. Room was ok apart from hitting my head because I was too tall (I'm only 176 cm so I'm not that tall!). Staff tried very hard to please. Expensive for what was provided. Room was hot and traditional bed a bit hard to take. We spent the night being too hot or too cold and had the a/c running all night because no windows.

I could not recommend Yuzuya Ryokan highly enough! We had a one night stay at Yuzuya Ryokan and it was proof that you get what you pay for. The staff were always willing to assist and go the extra mile for any questions or queries we may have had, the atmosphere was first class and would highly recommend a stay at the Yuzuya Ryokan!

The highlights of Yuzuya are the food and staff ! We are experience travelers with a passion of great food but Yuzuya truly impressed us. We ended up eating dinner in this Ryokan restaurant 5 nights with our stay for 6 nights! We had never done it anywhere in the World! The service, the creative presentations of food, the freshness of all the sea foods, the romantic atmosphere.... Were all 5 stars quality. Be sure to at least sign up for one dinner to see whether that is the food you like.... We will go back just for the food itself! They took care of us so well, we got them little thank you gifts to show our appreciation before we departed! Enjoy! The Maianos

We stayed there fort two nights. The entrance of the Ryokan, is locateed in a major street, and we thought, for the pictures, it was going to be located in the center of the gion area, in the little street. The location was very convinient, lots of buses in the area. Next as well to some of the major temples, and walking distance to gion, and pontocho. The personal of the hotel very kind and professional. Breakfast was very good. Although still think is a little bit expensive.

Hotel is clean and tidy. Offers a good Japanese atmosphere for tourists. - No doubt overpriced - with this price, I can stay in a outstanding ryokan; - Don't expect full fledged onsen. It's just a tub with 20-30 yuzu; - Room a bit noisy given it is closed to the main road; - Room blinds could not block light - expect to wake up early in the morning; - Don't expect the meals have very special yuzu courses. Food is nice, but don't expect yuzu specialties.

The staff could not be more helpful and friendly, the accomodations were clean and the atmosphere was peaceful and relaxing. The Japanese breakfast each morning was a work of art, and delicious. Each morning was something different- it was a treat! I wish that there was a small posting of the name in English somewhere by the door. I walked by three times and asked for the help of many people before I walked through the entrance.

Right in the Gion district, clean and quiet. Nice decoration. Dinner is too expensive. The slippers were one size fits all. I was never comfortable with the slippers... Maybe it's because my foot is a size 42 and the slipper were a 37. No Wi-fi in the bedrooms. Didn't feel close to no one in the hotel, so I didn't really got any experience from sleeping in a Ryokan, it just felt like a normal hotel. Didn't really fell that I got a good value for money, and at the end I got another 10% over the bookings.com price. I would not recommend, or stay at this Ryokan again.

Great common areas, staff was great and breakfast was fantastic. Location was amazing, Gion area of Kyoto was a great surprise. Price, Value. I travel a lot and rarely pay over $500 usd a night. I understood that I was getting "japanese style" but this was in no way worth the money.

The staff were fantastic - polite, friendly, helpful and thoughtful. Upon learning of our birthdays, the put flowers in our room with a card. Nothing was too much trouble. The room was exactly what we had hoped for in terms of a traditional Japanese experience, and the futons were like sleeping on a cloud!
